    What to do for fun

At the Desert Vista Campus there is always posters of events going on you can find something fun to do like Halloween events. As for the downtown campus there isn't a lot of things to do.

    Food and Dining

I am very health conscious and a lot of the food is fast food, microwavable, a quick bite type of food. I do not like the options they offer although they do have fruit and nut bars which I love.

    Dorm Life

I lived with my parents throughout college and Pima doesn't offer dorms.

    Academic Rigor

I have taken classes where the material is very interesting and informative where you feel like you can use it in the real world but I have also taken classes where the material is irrational and doesn't make sense to the course.

    Tips for prospective students

Students that are thinking about going to Pima should take a baby steps to jump into the college life because it is not the same as high school. I recommend to start with a few classes to get the feel then accelerate to more classes.

    In three sentences

Pima Community College is a great start for students that don't know the career path they want to take because there is many classes to help you decide. There is classes throughout the day to balance with your job. I think Pima is a great place to being a professional education.

    Campus Safety

You get regular updates about campus safety and the police department on West campus is helpful.

Great for these types of students

Students who like to take 4+ years to graduate a 2 year college.

    Bang for the buck

They will squeeze every dollar out of you and make you buy books you wont use (especially in the arts classes) Always remember that Pima is a business first and an educator second or maybe third.

    What to do for fun

Get to know the people who are suffering with you it makes it more bearable.

    Food and Dining

They changed the cafeteria owners in late 2013 and ever since they offer horrible junk food and frozen pizzas. There is no prepared food on campus all of it is frozen and thawed or ordered out.

    Academic Rigor

Most of the classes are based on your ability to read an expensive text book while your professor skips classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to apply for a better college, there are many Arizona community colleges that rank higher and have better graduation rates than Pima.

    Campus Safety

    ALWAYS on site....EASY to find.

    Greek Life

    NO clue.

    Clubs and Activities

Student government is where you should start.

Great for these types of students

    Do what YOU love.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

My advice to YOU...get involved and enjoy your time. Student government would be a great place to start.

    Bang for the buck

Too expensive for just a community college. That's why we go there first, 'cause we cannot afford to hop, skip and jump to a university.

    What to do for fun

Smile and laugh out loud. Have fun with your peers and even the staff. When someone has literally lost their smile...they've literally given up on life. WE DON'T get infinite I'll do it laters, WE ONLY get just ONE RIGHT NOW. Ps.... Smile BeAuTiFuL SoLdIeR...somebody LoVeS YOU!!

    Food and Dining

It WAS okay, but then they took the kitchen part out and now it's basically just basic. WE already pay out thee booty just to be there, I think they should go ahead and give US a break. It is stressful having to buy EVERY SINGLE thing in this school, especially when you are already broke and on SSI due to a disability.

    Dorm Life

    There AREN'T any dorms.

    Academic Rigor

I don't know what the heck rigor means, but imma look it up. What I DO know is that Pima desperately NEEDS professional development and professors who actually give a poop about YOU.

    Tips for prospective students

Go in with an open mind and a plan, but NEVER forget to bring PLAN-B with you. If you DON'T want to get behind, do your homework as soon as you get home or if possible, at school in the LEARNING CENTER. ALWAYS KEEP YOUR FLASH DRIVE WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES. Get involved with things that genuinely interest YOU and NOT what ANYONE thinks you should do-- that's why we don't pay people to think ha-ha. Ultimately, be YOURSELVES AT ALL TIMES. Life is in session....have fun!!

    In three sentences

Pima NEEDS professors who ARE interested and willing to help and support you in EVERY department each student is involved in. Unless you really pucker up and kiss some booties, they are NOT going to be concerned with your well-being NOR care about how far you've come in life just to be sitting in a classroom with them. Pima NEEDS more professors to get involved and more often too.

    Bang for the buck

Cheaper than community colleges up in Metro Phoenix, Pima saves you a few hundred dollars.

    Food and Dining

I heard the Community Campus used to have a cafeteria with snacks such as cheese fries, very disappointed to see the mini-mart they have replaced it with when I visited.

    Dorm Life

No dorms, a check mark in my list.

    Academic Rigor

RateMyProfessor.com has been a great tool for choosing my instructors at Pima.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are planning on moving to Tucson or transferring to the University of Arizona, Pima is very helpful in the admissions process. The staff is very knowledgeable and I have only had to be on hold for a lengthy period of time about 10% of the time I call a department at the college.

    Campus Safety

I think Pima Community College tries very hard to maintain a safe and secure campus at all locations

    Clubs and Activities

I belong to the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, an option for all Two year college students with a GPA of 3.5 or above. I think this is a wonderful opportunity for those looking for something to belong to but don't want to go through the initiation process that Frats and Sororities require you to go thru!

Great for these types of students

Students who work and go to school, community colleges are really great for these non-traditional students. Students who are paying their own way thru school too as they offer the options of taking evening classes so you can still work and attend classes as well as payment plan options!

    Bang for the buck

Community colleges help with offering transfer options to several universities, making college much more affordable! I like the smaller more intimate classes community colleges offer as well!

    What to do for fun

Movies, theater, great mix of bars and restaurant down town! Plenty of sporting events, college mostly but if you are a baseball fan lots of spring training going on in this area! Plenty of shopping!

    Food and Dining

Fairly good variety of dining options, could be more casual and fine dining options. LOTS of fast food and Mexican food options, you will not be disappointed!

    Dorm Life

    no dorms in community college!

    Academic Rigor

I feel some classes are too easy, some are extremely hard, so there isn't as much consistence as I feel there should be but I still feel I am learning something valuable regardless

    Tips for prospective students

Start your search early, the earlier the better, core classes fill up very fast and they only accept 30 for online classes which fill up even faster! Fill out as many scholarship opportunities as you can, which will help with costs, utilize all of the available resources the college has to offer!

    In three sentences

Great School with reasonably priced tuition. A great way to get an economical start to your degree path! Great variety of classes, with an adequate mix of online, traditional and hybrid classes

    What to do for fun

There is a multiplicity of opportunities for students to stay involved and have fun on campus. Every so often throughout the semesters, there are festivals relating to cultural traditions or familiar holidays. There are usually posters revealing details on movie nights, productions (plays), and exhibits put on by art classes. There is also a Student Life area for students to take advantage of and learn more about the depth of the school.

    Food and Dining

I am mostly familiar with the Northwest Pima campus, which is somewhat small, but extremely beautiful. It has a cafeteria/cafe area called The Canyon Cafe. This provides students with a spectrum of healthy, quick snacks to full meals in a comfortable market type setting. There are drink options and benefits to using their facility. It is convenient and has many options available. Larger campuses, such as the Downtown Campus offers more options.

    Dorm Life

As far as I know, being a community college with many campuses, there are not dorm life options, but because there are many campuses throughout Tucson, it is extremely doable and convenient to attend from any living situation around Tucson.

    Academic Rigor

Pima Community College has an array of classes suitable for students who are beginning and working their way up to specific and challenging courses fitting to degrees and programs in particular. All classes will challenge you in beneficial ways, but will also be doable for both full-time and part-time students.

    Tips for prospective students

In order to succeed and enjoy time spent at Pima Community College, students should get involved. Getting involved with elective classes, clubs, campus jobs, or student life, and more will bring the student closer to the school and will ultimately help the entire schooling experience. Making appointments with advisors is important and will keep the student on track for their degree, credits, audits, or whatever is suitable for that particular student. Talking with advisors and becoming familiar with the office is a beneficial and wise choice. Also, students should become close with their instructors and take advantage of the tutoring sessions available daily. This will keep the student on track and get them that much more involved, which will easily benefit them in the future when transferring or getting an associates degree, etc.

    In three sentences

Pima Community College is a diverse and affordable opportunity for a large array of students. There are plenty of campus options, class options, and many opportunities that speak and mold to students who just graduated high school to adult students who are coming back to school. The cost of Pima Community College and the way it accommodates to a broad spectrum of students makes the college a significant, beneficial, and great starter option.

Great for these types of students

Returning to school. Looking for a cheap college to start out at. Just looking to get an Associates. Military.

    Bang for the buck

Gen-ed's for pretty cheap and the professors actually care which is a plus.

    Food and Dining

The choices are slim. The later you're there in the day the less choices you have and there hardly anything near the campuses.

    Academic Rigor

I though the classes weren't that hard. For me they were the same as high school classes with a lot less busy work each day.

    Tips for prospective students

Anything to do with paperwork should be done as soon as you know it needs to be done. Pima isn't that great of a paperwork handler and it takes weeks if not months to process transcripts or graduation requests.

    In three sentences

Pima Community College is great for getting your associates or if you think the transition between high school and college will be hard. It's a great, cheap college to get your gen-ed's done at, the professors genuinely want you to succeed.

    Bang for the buck

Even though the teachers are good, I think that maybe they could assign more homework. But they seem afraid of overloading the students.

    Food and Dining

There is food and vending machines everywhere. The bookstores also sell food and everything, from art supplies to chapstick!

    Tips for prospective students

Be careful when creating your schedule, make sure that you are able to keep up. Especially with the online classes, you need to write down when the projects are due just to avoid falling behind.

    In three sentences

Pima Community College does a great job at preparing students to transfer to a four year university. As a student you get a chance to manipulate your schedule according to your own preferences. They provide great resources and classrooms. There's books for everyone, and computers with all the necessary software installed - which is great for those studying design, animation, programming , etc. - . The teacher are friendly and they tend to be very helpful when you need them. The staff is also very helpful and they will solve all of your doubts, and will help you out when you need to transfer.

There are police and security roaming around the campus, so I would say it is pretty safe.

    Greek Life

I have never heard of Greek Life.

    Clubs and Activities

I was not in any clubs.

Great for these types of students

There are classes that are taught online, self- paced classes, and regular lecture in class classes so the range of learners are catered to.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I was not really into getting involved at Pima so I am unsure of really any traditions. Although, the Northwest campus did a really nice Earth Day celebration, but I heard that after spring 2014 that was no longer going to happen.

    Bang for the buck

Can't get any better fro the money!

    What to do for fun

There are student life centers on campus and in some you can play video games and get tutoring which is really cool.

    Food and Dining

The food is good just be wary of the prices as somethings are a bit pricey.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms at Pima.

    Academic Rigor

There are definitely some challenging classes on Pima's schedule of classes. I think that for the money Pima is worth every cent. I was relieved to know that I could take some of the same classes that are at the University of Arizona at Pima as some of the teachers who teach at Pima also teach at the university.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you do a lot of your own research as well as looking into talking with an academic advisor from the university that you are planning to go to as the Pima advisors are not really knowledgeable about the requirements for other colleges and universities.

    In three sentences

I think Pima Community College is a good place to start for those who are not able to afford a university straight out of high school and for those who are not sure about taking the SAT and ACT tests. Pima is accredited and so is a great option especially since you are able to transfer.

    Academic Rigor

How well one does is solely based on the student. If you are one to slack off, not do your work, and not pay attention in class don't bother to come. If you are one to ask questions and be involved in every step of your college journey then this is the school for you.

    Tips for prospective students

The best thing you can do while attending PCC is keeping in contact with your advisors and teachers. Keep in mind that college is not like high school, its up to us to keep up with everything from schedules, grades, deadlines, and test scores. I suggest checking your my pima account as much as possible.

    Campus Safety

Pima Community College is very good about keeping their students safe. There are Pima Police that roam the parking lots and numerous blue emergency boxes to be pressed. If there ever is an incident on campus, an email is sent out immediately to let students know of the situations and teachers are informed and let their students know immediately. Even if the incident occurred on another campus, every staff and student is made aware.

    Greek Life

Pima Community College does not have Sororities or Fraternities on campus or in general.

    Clubs and Activities

There are numerous clubs at Pima Community College that meet at very different times of the day. All are very inviting and are also very involved with what they do.

Great for these types of students

Great for incoming freshmen students and anyone needing an extra credit or two but do not want to pay the extra fees at a normal college or deal with the excessive work load put onto the students there. Also great for people just looking for something fun to do or want to widen their academic knowledge on things they're interested in, young or old!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

My favorite quiet place at Pima Community Colleges' East campus is the little quiet section in the back right corner of the Library. There are study nooks and tables and it is hidden from the rest of the library by the rows and rows of books. There is also a ceiling to floor window that looks out on the mountains which is a nice view for the worn out student

    Bang for the buck

The classes at Pima Community College provide the required information at a much lower cost than the universities. I am a full time student taking anywhere from 14-16 credits per semester and usually my financial total equaled to about $1,000 giver or take a hundred. My friend at the UofA spends roughly $14,000 on tuition per year, $7,000 a semester. Pima also offered me the Pima Scholars aware which has paid for my tuition for the past 4 semesters so I have only had to pay $300 max per semester on books out of pocket (though there is a Pima scholarship that pays for books which would be good to look into!) Pima will also buy back books at the end of the semester (or any time really) at a reasonable price. I have seen the buy back rate of books range anywhere from $15 to $140 per book depending on demand. Much better than the $5 per book price at the UofA.

    What to do for fun

Pima Community College offers and array of different kinds of clubs to partake in, and there is usually at least one club that pertains to each major as well as interest groups. There are public computers for personal use as well as the occasional game of Foosball to partake upon.

    Food and Dining

While I have only eaten on campus once the food was decent and the selection is well varied. The food is fresh and while it is not convenience store cheap, the prices are not insanely expensive. Certain days will also provide special options. On Tuesdays and Thursdays the East campus cafe offers two extra healthy option for eating green. There are also usually fast food restaurants and gas stations with convenience stores within a 5 minute drive of the campus for obtaining nourishment.

    Dorm Life

There is no specific dorm for Pima Community College students as many of the students going here live nearby or are leaders of their families. There are nice apartments and living spaces near the west campus that I have heard are very nice, spacious and reasonably priced for people with roommates.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor for the community college is not terribly hard as many of the teachers realize that many of their students have many other things to take care of outside of class, such as rearing children or working full time (this is usually why they attend the community college instead of the University) and so the homework load usually is not a lot. Just reading the chapters for the lectures, multi month long research papers, occasional group projects, 2-3 page papers ect. Most of the teachers are practicers in their field and thus have hands on experience with what they're teaching you and can provide interesting anecdotes as examples.

    Tips for prospective students

Pima Community College is a great start for transferring into the college system. While the classrooms and structure resemble that of high school, the lengths and content within the class are college level and are different from what was learned back in high school. The classes are also cheaper and makes getting the general education classes out of the way more efficient and cost effective. The teachers and staff are friendly so there is no need to worry about asking a question and the East campus offers a tutoring center which is very helpful for students struggling with writing and math courses.

    In three sentences

Both East and West campuses of Pima Community College, which I have attended, are warm and inviting and easily navigable . The class sizes and set up are reminiscent of high school class rooms which makes learning closer and more personal with the fellow classmates and the teachers. Classmates can range from freshmen just out of high school to the retired elderly, but with this mix there are usually few disruptive people within the class and thus the learning environment is much more enjoyable, tolerable and productive.

Campus police are around all the time. I do not go a single day with out walking or driving by a campus police officer. I regularly see campus police patrolling the parking lots at night after my class ends. There is the PCC Alert - emergency text messaging system. Also, there are emergency telephones in parking lots, campus elevators, and other key locations. They connect directly to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) Communications Center.

    No Greek life.

    Clubs and Activities

There are 52 clubs between the 5 main campuses at Pima Community College.

Great for these types of students

*Students who want to save money. *Students who are returning to school. *Students who are not sure what they want to major in. *Students who want the availability of having multiple campuses. *Students who just want to take classes for personal or professional development does not break the bank). *Students who are motivated to graduate, can usually graduate with an associates degree or transfer to a four year university in less than two years.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

At the West Campus location, the library and tutoring center are located on the top floor of the school. These facilities have the best views than any of the other campuses. You are able to see all of Tucson and the surrounding mountains from here.

    Bang for the buck

If you are planning on transferring to a four year university in the state or Arizona, this is the way to go. My first two years of college will have cost me less than $8,000 for tuition and books. This is an excellent path to take if you are paying out of pocket.

    What to do for fun

There is plenty to do in Tucson. There is no shortage of good restaurants. Lots of night life on Fourth Avenue and Downtown. Between Pima Community College and the University of Arizona, collegiate sporting events are bountiful. Major League Soccer has a regular schedule here. There are endless miles of hiking trails. One of the top attractions in the world is also here, the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. The list goes on...

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria food is pretty good. There are, however, many place to dine off campus that are 10 minutes or less away. The local food establishments are the way to go.

    Dorm Life

There is no dorm life. All housing is off campus.

    Academic Rigor

It really depends on who your professor is. I had a writing professor that was very hard (used to teach at university). However, the information I learned has been extremely valuable. I have had other professors who did not try to teach the information. It boils down to what you want to get out of your education. Talk to fellow students for advice.

    Tips for prospective students

It is very important that you attend class.

    In three sentences

The vast majority of the professors are business owners, employees of local businesses, doctoral students at the University of Arizona, and retired professionals. That real world experience, rates high in my opinion. It is hard to find that kind of diversity at many community colleges.

There is security on campus and I have occasionally seen police officers on campus but I don't hear of too many issues of crime on campus. When there are issues, the school is good about communicating what the issue was, where it took place, and what is being done about it.

I have seen that clubs are available on campus but I am not too familiar because I haven't seen or heard very much about them.

Pima offers many different activities and clubs, depending on your interests you can have a choice about which ones you want to attend. There are writing clubs, photography clubs, poetry clubs and many more!

    Food and Dining

The food at the cafeteria there is pretty good! They have a lot of choice - pizza, Mexican food, fresh fruits and etc. The only problem is that it can get pretty expensive so if you don't have much money and you're trying to save it would be a good idea to bring lunch with you.

    Dorm Life

I have never lived a dorm life at Pima so I can't really say much about it.

    Academic Rigor

The general classes at Pima are not too hard, it's definitely something that anyone could manage.

    Tips for prospective students

The best tip that I have is - make sure you have a good adviser! I had so much issues with talking to different people about my degree and what I need to do to get it because everyone was saying different things, it was very frustrating.

    In three sentences

Pima Community College has both good and bad about, as do all of the other colleges do. The thing that I love about Pima is that the teachers that I have had so far were always fun and understanding. It's definitely a place that I would recommend to try out.

    Food and Dining

I've never had any food from Pima since I typically just go to Eegees...

    Dorm Life

There's no dorm life here since it's a Community college. Best stay with your parents or get a responsible roommate to get an apartment with.

    Academic Rigor

Smaller class sizes means more one-on-one interaction with teachers. Need I say more?

That's another thing Pima is great for, this is a school for any type of student. With so many majors as a traditional University you also receive the perks of a community college tuition fee.

Attending the West campus will probably ensure you to have the most fun. More students enroll in this location and it is also bigger.

    Campus Safety

The campuses are relatively safe. The students are really nice so you really shouldn't run into any conflicts at Pima. You could leave your cell phone somewhere and someone WILL turn it in. Same with wallets and bags.

    Clubs and Activities

Too many to like. Really. You'd have to stop by Student Life and pick a packet up to see for yourself.

Great for these types of students

Everyone who's anyone trying to further their education at a legit college.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Each campus is different from the other. There's no telling what special places and hangouts you'll find at each campus. The 2nd floor in the H building at West campus offers a breath-taking view of Tucson.

    Bang for the buck

For just under a grand for a full-time student, it's a steal! The quality of the education you receive at Pima College is unmatched, even at the University of Arizona. That's right!

    What to do for fun

Pima has many clubs to keep you busy! Too many to list really. At the West Campus, they set up a stage in the cafeteria every few weeks and hold shows and presentations for anyone who wants to check them out. This includes drag shows, mini rap concerts, karaoke, whatever! You name it, they've probably done it.

    Food and Dining

The cafes at each campus are unique to that campus. It's all great food though! It's really pricey though. What you pay for a slice of pizza or a hamburger is twice or triple the price of what you would pay at any fast food restaurant down the street.

    Dorm Life

Pima Community College doesn't offer student living.

    Academic Rigor

There are easy classes and hard classes. It all depends on what professor you get. You can easily Google your professor for a review on them. Some professors will hand you hours of homework per week while others will just teach half of the lecture and let you go for the day.

    Tips for prospective students

Attitude! Be buddies with your professor, even if you can't stand them! Being chummy with your professor can (and will) score you extra points and wiggle room at the end of the semester. Also, make friends! Pima can get really lonely if you don't make any friends.

    In three sentences

Pima College is truly on par with other colleges in Arizona in terms of academics and sports. The instructors and professors care about your success and will do whatever it takes to get you on the right track to where you may be going in life. Each campus is completely different from the other, offering a unique experience when it comes to your preferred learning environment.

They are usually on top of things and post notices often if something is happening that you need to be made aware of. They tend to not cancel classes due to severe weather, however. (Flooding, snowing, dust storm etc.) It makes it hard to adhere to the rules since there is no on-campus housing and thus everyone must drive there.

Great for these types of students

Those who realize that you don't need to drown in debt the first two years of college, and that community college has been falsely labeled as a place for stupid students. This is not true! It is for financially responsible students.

    Bang for the buck

Exceptional. You are getting the same core courses you would get at a university. The only difference is, you won't drown in debt! Please consider community college before transferring to a university.

Hang out in the labs! The library has some great places to explore if you have a little free time. They also have a computer lab with internet that is a good place to hang out between classes.

    Food and Dining

Decent, I suppose. There's only one restaurant on campus, but it serves pretty good treats like pizza, snacks, drinks, etc. Good for a quick lunch.

    Academic Rigor

Pretty run of the mill for a community college. You shouldn't have trouble if you're a dedicated student. There are plenty of resources available to you to help you out.

    Tips for prospective students

Work hard! It sounds silly and cliche and overused, but keep this in mind. It's hard work now, but soon you will be receiving that diploma, and it will all pay off! Then it's done, and you'll be glad you put in the work.

    In three sentences

Pima Community College is a wonderful financial opportunity for any student! It is just as good as any college or university. Don't let the words community college scare you off!

Academics can be somewhat challenging but only if you put yourself to exceed. Sometimes it depends on the instructors criteria as well.

I've heard a lot of assault reports that took situation at the downtown campus where I go to. Just by the surrounding buildings outside and nearby the campus, it's not the best campus that belongs to Pima.

    Greek Life

I personally haven't seen anything like this so I wouldn't know what to say.

    Clubs and Activities

I didn't participate in any clubs or activities so I wouldn't be able to have a say in this.

Great for these types of students

Students who want a good education for than less of the half price at any university.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is not any unusual traditions in Pima. As for locations, I don't really take a liking to the atmosphere of the downtown campus. Especially more during the late afternoon when more homeless people start to come along.

    Bang for the buck

The price of the classes have gone up a little bit this year but Pima is naturally a best option when you're trying to find good education for less money. I don't recommend going straight to university from high school, even if you do know what you want to major in.

    What to do for fun

I feel like you're not there for fun. At least I personally don't feel it that way. I've seen people aren't there for fun either. They go to class and leave when it's done.

    Food and Dining

The food is perfectly fine. Good variety but the prices are a little costly for many things. I wouldn't recommend buying snacks or lunch there everyday.

    Dorm Life

I didn't sleep in a dorm so I have no say in what that life is like.

    Academic Rigor

The college itself is not strict with accepting students in general in my opinion. The teacher's rigor is not too strict like in high school since they expect for you to be there since you paid for the class but they don't mind if you don't show up to class either because it's your time and money loss.

    Tips for prospective students

I don't recommend the online classes as much, unless you're a student who is highly responsible and willing to do the work without a teacher having to remind you when work needs to be turned in.

    In three sentences

Pima is a fantastic school with flexible hours and well educated teachers. I don't regret going to Pima; it has saved me time and money. I would recommend this college to anyone.

    Academic Rigor

It's not Stanford or MIT but I'm learning many of the same things that my friends at the state universities are learning and my teachers know me by name. It's not terribly hard but on the same token you are in a learning environment and as such you need to apply yourself in order to get the most out of it.

    Tips for prospective students

Join clubs, find groups of students in your classes who you enjoy hanging out with and study with them. You're going to hear that a lot but it's invaluable and it really gives you ties, gives you a stronger reason to come to class each day. It's great then too because if you make friends in one class chances are they'll be in at least one of your other classes!

Students can feel comfortable in the amount they are paying for their education, keeping them sane when they look at their bank statement. Books are very expensive but when it comes to securing you future I look at it as the best investment you can make investment!

    What to do for fun

I have attended several extra-curricular activities the school offers, some including workout classes, cooking demonstrations, and yoga techniques. The school offers a range of activities and classes that will keep the students busy having a good time!

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria has a wide selection of various meals and beverages along with a great selection of snacks. Unfortunately the cost of an average meal can drain your bank account pretty fast! On the bright side you can find vending machines within campus corridors containing snacks at a reasonable price.

    Dorm Life

Although Pima does not offer a dorm life, the surrounding housing facilities are quiet which is perfect for doing homework and studying.

    Academic Rigor

Pima has high standards when it comes to challenging the student's intellect. Classes are tough and teachers are strict, but if you are serious about your dream this is a great learning environment. The professors are there to help when it is needed and they do a great job of keeping you sharp and on top of things.

    Tips for prospective students

When narrowing down a school to attend keep in mind that universities see you as a number. At Pima you have a name as a student and your education is paramount in the eyes of the faculty and staff. Keep yourself organized, prepared, and sharp for class every day. Most importantly, get ready for a hands-on learning experience and an eye opening journey to success!

    In three sentences

Pima Community College is a great school for the student who wants to further themselves and secure a rewarding future. This school will take your goals to heart and guide you to success, teaching you life lessons along the way! Pima Community College is the way to go if you are interested in perusing a lifelong passion!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The campuses try and offer different cultural experiences for the students when they are on campus, and they try and do something special when cultural holidays come up, they're pretty cool that way.

    What to do for fun

There isn't really much to do on campus, unless you count the computer commons or the library. Tucson can be kind of boring, unfortunately, but if you have some awesome to people to hang with, you will be just fine.

    Food and Dining

The cafes at the campuses have some pretty good food, but can get kind of expensive, so if you are on a budget, you should definitely consider brown-bagging it.

    Academic Rigor

The difficulty really depends on the class you are taking, and who is your teacher! Usually you can pass if you put in the effort and work for your grade, but according to my own experience classes have not been that difficult.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you stay on top of your applications and the holds on your account, because sometimes stuff comes up that can just be the system. They do not usually send you messages if something is wrong, so it will be your responsibility to check it, but the advisors are usually glad to help.

    In three sentences

They are very helpful in aiding you in applying, and getting what you need to get done. You do need to be on top of everything, making sure that everything goes through correctly, and asking plenty of questions (their system can get kind of glitchy). But once you are in the door, it is very convenient because of the different campuses and classes they offer.

    What to do for fun

Pima has a plethora of clubs that could rival any university. I was a member of Art Club for the last two semesters as well as a Vice President for Spring 2011. It's pretty friendly for student organizations.

    Food and Dining

The food is expensive here. I think its a shame to overprice these items because most of us are poor college students that are hungry. With the current inflation of the economy, the least the school could do is provide cost-effective food for its students.

    Dorm Life

Because there are no dorms here, I live in an apartment off campus. It would be nice if there were dorms/school-owned apartments nearby to each of the campuses across the city. That would improve the academic feel I believe.

    Academic Rigor

Pima has a very low graduation rate, but this should encourage people to change that. If you are serious about the work then it will pay off here. Teachers try hard to make the course information accessible and simple for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Know what it is you want to study, have a plan, and talk to as many people as you can. If you plan on transferring, try and meet people who are going to the University you want to transfer to. Don't get so stuck on what it is the advisers are telling you. I've found out things about my major, and have figured out a lot of what I've done simply from talking to other students.

    In three sentences

Good school if you want to transfer. Not so much when it comes to advising.

    In three sentences

Pima Community College is a wonderful place to further your academic career. It's a perfect place for in between high school and a University. I love Pima!

    Campus Safety

    Fine, but generally totally useless.

    Greek Life

If you are accepted into the Honors College, you have the opportunity to join the frat/sorority for honors community college students. I chose not to.

    Clubs and Activities

There are plenty, though I know very little about them. Pima tries to have a great social life and club life and, though they sometimes fall quite short, I appreciate the effort and believe that many people can find their niche there.

Great for these types of students

Internally motived students who just want to get done with school or specific classes.

    Bang for the buck

Because Pima is so wildly cheap compared to Universities, I find that it's generally worth it - especially when you're taking classes in hopes to transfer after a year or two.

    What to do for fun

Well, it's Tucson. Depending on what scenes you're interested, you can probably find something to do.

    Food and Dining

Some of the campuses have small cafeteria's in them, though I am not sure about every campus. I attended the Downtown Campus, which served mildly tasty food at insane prices. Still, sometimes I found it was worth it to grab a coffee or some fries when I was in a rush or trying to cram.

    Dorm Life

    Pima does not have dorms.

    Academic Rigor

I was actually pleasantly surprised by Pima's academic rigor. I was expecting most of my classes to be incredibly easy - but a few were quite difficult. The online classes at Pima tend to be easier - though they may have a heap of time consuming busy work. Once again, ask around.

    Tips for prospective students

Set a goal and plan it out carefully. I went to Pima because my grades from high school weren't great, and I wanted to have a semester of excellent grades to prove to my college-of-choice that I could do better. If you know what you want to study and how long you plan to stay at Pima, you will do much better. Choose classes very wisely - ask friends, family, acquaintances etc. if they know any teachers who you will enjoy, or if you should really just avoid. If you don't ask around, you may end up in a class that wasn't at all what you expected, especially because sometimes Pima students are really there because they have to be - not because they want to be.

    In three sentences

Pima College is a good choice for you if you have a specific goal in mind (i.e. I'm going to work on my photography degree, and transfer to the U of A after two years), if you can't afford anything else, or if you're taking classes because your family or someone similar says you should. People also take classes there without the intent of getting a degree (for instance, if they really want to take an art class). Beware of students who may not be very driven, excited about learning or...particularly intelligent.

Great for these types of students

People that do not have money to spend on a university, yet want to get a college degree.

    Bang for the buck

    Cheapest in this region.

    What to do for fun

Off campus people party a lot like any college town. I personally just play video games.

    Food and Dining

They have a standard over priced crappy cafeteria.

    Dorm Life

Off campus housing is the best.

    Academic Rigor

A lot of the students here are not very smart because they came out of the TUSD school system which is one of the worst in the country. The teachers have to compensate for this sometimes so a lot of lower level classes that everyone has to take are dumbed down. Higher level classes have the smart students so they are just as scrupulous as a university course.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not procrastinate. Finish your homework before the weekend not after. Use time on the bus for studying. Do not take more credits then you are able to complete each semester.

    In three sentences

The school is cheapest per credit hour in this region. Some classes with first time teachers of the class can be unorganized. The campuses are spread out which makes it easy to get classes close to where u live.

    What to do for fun

There are sports teams, and athletic facilities you can use for recreational purpose. There are plenty of clubs, school newspaper, and student council you can join for experience and fun.

    Food and Dining

They have wonderful facilities available to sit and eat. They offer meals but I feel more variety, especially healthy varieties should be available.

    Dorm Life

This is not applicable to the community college.

    Academic Rigor

The academic aspect of the campus is very high, but is also solely dependent on you. You are responsible for attending classes, studying, and asking for help. So it feels very fair that if you are failing it's because you didn't put in the hard work.

    Tips for prospective students

Make use of all the resources available. There are wonderful tutoring services available. The professors have very flexible hours to be there to answer any questions you have. Don't be afraid to make new friends in your major or classes they are the best source for help with anything.

    In three sentences

Pima Community College is a wonderful school to attend. It has a more intimate setting than most universities have available. The professors are helpful and tentative and fellow students are willing to help. The facilities and technology are excellent for studying and doing homework on campus.

Great for these types of students

Pima is great for students that want to get their gen-eds done at a reasonable cost, before transferring to a University. The college offers help in determining what you might want to pursue, so students that aren't sure what they want to do yet. It's very supportive.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I can't think of any unusual traditions or locations on campus.

    What to do for fun

I like to get together with friends. We like to hit a movie now and then. I enjoy working out at the gym.

    Academic Rigor

Pima is harder than high school but probably a bit easier than a University. The professors are approachable if you are having any issues. It is what you make of it.

    Tips for prospective students

    Campus Safety

There were no major safety issues at Pima, however security was never really around when homeless would find their way into the school which I found kind of funny at times. Ironic timing I guess.

    Greek Life

    Non-existent, thankfully.

    Clubs and Activities

I didn't really explore the clubs much but there are a decent amount at the college. I am more involved with the singers and dancers and asian clubs mainly at the university.

Great for these types of students

Great for any type of student. I have not encountered a really bad batch of students yet.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

No unusual traditions but due to its location near downtown Pima always gets its fair share of wandering homeless. There was a homeless person that used to walk in the middle of the courtyard listening to his cd player singing mariah carey out loud while carrying a 24 pack of Budlight. No, I am not joking.

    Bang for the buck

I really liked the small class environment, it was friendly and not so serious so I could always throw around a joke or two and people would enjoy it. Comparing it to the prices you find at the university, the courses offered at Pima are so much cheaper. At the same time, with the prices also comes the chance that you could get a really bad teacher. I have had only one bad teacher so I haven't really experienced anything too bad.

    What to do for fun

Study groups are always fun. I enjoyed my study groups with my classmates whenever we had the time to do them. You can also get involved with the various clubs that the college and the university have to offer, that way you meet new people with similar interests.

    Food and Dining

The food is good, no complaints but it is owned by Sodexo so the prices can be a little higher compared to other places.

    Dorm Life

    Pima does not provide dorms.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on what you take and how many credit hours you have, the work load should not be too rigorous. It is much less than what the university would give.

    Tips for prospective students

As with any college experience, you must always know when to play and when to work. College is never easy whether its community college or a university, but remember that it is not high school. Students who attend here are serious about their work, so procrastination will result with poor results. At the same time have fun as well, because college is new and exciting!

    In three sentences

Pima has many teachers, some great and some not so great. Small and intimate class sizes that enrich the learning experience. Very down to earth and relaxed, with a wide spread of people attending.

Great for these types of students

PCC is great for students looking for a smooth transition from high school to a 4 year university. It's also perfect for those going back to school because of the small class sizes and convenient times of classes like evening and weekend classes.

    What to do for fun

Pima offers a number of clubs and sports that students can join and get into. Because Tucson is also home to The University of Arizona, there are great places around the Pima Downtown Campus for students to enjoy music, movies, dinner, study and much much more!

    Food and Dining

All the campus's have small cafe type places where you can grab a bite to eat and study. Wi-fi is free, too. However, the prices are ridiculous, but these little places are perfect for quick and on the go snacks and drinks. There are also vending machines scattered around the campus's.

    Dorm Life

Pima doesn't have any dorms, but most of the campus's have housing of some kind near by that are student friendly.

    Academic Rigor

Community colleges are obviously not as rigorous as universities but you still have to stay on top of your game. Like schools everywhere, the difficulty of class mostly depends on the instructor.

    Tips for prospective students

My number one tip to future PCC students is to know your advisers. College, is well college, so finding your way around academically is hard at first and that's where the adviser comes in. They help you figure out what classes you need to take and where you can find all sorts of help through out the various campus's around Tucson. Also, as cliche as this may sound, don't be afraid to ask questions! If something doesn't make sense, ask the teacher to clarify, or if you don't know what's going on with class schedules, email an adviser and they can help! And last but not least, HAVE FUN!

    In three sentences

PCC is a great place to start your college career. Because of the small class sizes you can get a one on one experience with your professors and it's easy to get to know fellow classmates. They also make it insanely easy to transfer to The University of Arizona like I did!!

    Clubs and Activities

There are a few clubs but not many. I go to a smaller campus so maybe the bigger campuses offer more.

Great for these types of students

    coming back to college

    Bang for the buck

The price for attending this school is pretty good. The tuition is not all that expensive. It is definitely a great alternative for those who can't afford much.

    What to do for fun

You can join some clubs. For me, I felt like there isn't much to do but some may say different.

    Food and Dining

I have seen some cafeteria type food places on campus. I've been to a few of them and haven't seen many places to eat. Best bet is to eat at surrounding restraunts if you are feeling hungry.

    Dorm Life

There doesn't seem to be dorms available at this school. I heard from someone that they do have apartments exclusive for Pima Students. Other than that, there are no dorms located on campus.

    Academic Rigor

Teachers seem to give large amounts of homework. The work isn't that hard, it's more time consuming.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are going here, don't plan to experience the college atmosphere. There aren't many things to do at this school.

    In three sentences

Pima Community College is a great school if you want small class sizes. The teachers seem eager to help their students. There are many options for taking courses at Pima.

Returning students, fresh from high school students, new to college older students. Everyone!

    Tips for prospective students

Utilize all the offered resources. There's always help that's generously offered. Tutors are available every day. If you have self paced classes and need support to set up a schedule of study, contact a counselor to help you determine the required study time per particular class to match with the open lab hours. The library is open 12 hours per day and the staff will help with any computer challenges. Again, I cannot stress enough, use your resources and you will be successful.

Great for these types of students

PCC is great for students just coming out of high school. Because it's smaller it's harder to get lost in a see of faces, meaning that the professors actually care about each student and want to see them succeed and continue on with their education. It's also a great school for people who have to work full time. They have classes at all times of the day, classes on weekends, and a plethora of classes that you can take online.

    Tips for prospective students

PCC offers a lot of services for students. Take advantage of them all. They offer free career counseling, free financial counseling, free tutoring, and the professors all have office hours and most are willing to be flexible to fit your schedule. At PCC you aren't alone. Always feel free to ask for help if you need anything; everyone wants to see you succeed.

    Bang for the buck

PCC is incredibly affordable. An in-state student could easily take a full course load and buy all of their books for less than a thousand dollars a semester. It's also a lot easier to get in and talk to advisers compared to big universities. It's a lot more personable and it seems like your money isn't just going towards classes, but towards a great experience with people who care.

    Am enjoying being here

Everyone is nice and with campuses all over Tucson it's easy to take classes, no matter where in the city you live. The campuses are also easy to get to using public transportation if you don't have a car.

    Am learning a lot

This is a great college to start out at. The professors are all extremely helpful and flexible with their office hours to accommodate students with busy schedules of their own. Their are also tutors for nearly every class at all of the campuses around Tucson. The classes are also a lot smaller than big universities, meaning you get a lot more one-on-one interaction with the instructors.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who need the mornings off, and can only go to school at night, who don't want to pay a lot, and want to learn a lot.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely try financial aid, go to an adviser your first semester to help set you up. And join a club, its fun!

    Bang for the buck

As someone said before it's $55ish per credit. If you get financial aid AND go full time here, you will still have a lot of money left over after paying classes, and buying books. Free tutoring, free WIFI, free Foosball table (lol)

    Am enjoying being here

It's so different from high school, the campus is nice, the wild animals that some times show up are pretty cool. The food is wonderful for being so cheap. They have a nice Ramada outside where you can just hang out with friends.

    Am learning a lot

So certain classes have more 'learning' being done than others, if you really care about learning vs getting the easy A, you can just check rateyourprofessor.com. Most of the prerequisite teachers understand that they are just a class that most people don't want to take so they teach the basics. While the actual classes like the Respiratory, Computer Graphics, Psychology classes have really nice teachers who teach well.

Great for these types of students

Pima Community College is great for any type of student really. From young to old you can find it at PCC. They have a multitude of campuses all over Tucson and offer online classes so you can have a flexible schedule for work. Don't forget to check out the library at the down town campus. :)

    Tips for prospective students

STUDY. I know college is a party place, but you have to study at least two hours a day if you want to make it. You will still have time to relax and hangout, trust me. Rent your text books from chegg. It's a lot cheaper then buying your books and chegg will plant a tree anywhere in the world with every rental purchase which is pretty sweet.

    Bang for the buck

So if you decide to go to PCC first, before you head off to an university lots of props to you. Not only is it more economically smart but you can get done faster that way. So well at Pima take your general ed for the major you want to take. This is better then doing it at the university because not only will it be a WHOLE lot cheaper but you have smaller classes that will be more focused and student- teacher relations are better.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is super beautiful and has an amazing library. It's not nearly as big as the UofA's library but it is more comfy and cheerful. The staff at PCC is super helpful and nice. Helpful tip: Sit at the diner looking booths in the library. Not only is it super cool, but the seats are really comfy.

    Am learning a lot

I love there classes here. I go to the downtown campus and have also done plenty of online classes. So what you need to know before you start is to have some kind of idea of what you want to major and minor in. This is super helpful because while going to PCC you should take classes that are specific to that course. Some general ed classes aren't necessary with some majors you might want to take.

    Tips for prospective students

    Bang for the buck

I have heard that it is a really good price for in-state students, but I came in out of state and I had to take out loans. I was very upset.

    Did enjoy being here

I despise this school. There are more alcohol and drugs than homework assignments here.

Compared to other community colleges, the faculty here and the programs are a complete failure. My classes didn't even transfer, though they were basic computer science classes.

Great for these types of students

Pima Community College is great for students that want to earn their associates degree or simply transfer to a university, because the tuition is affordable and the teaching is personal with small class sizes. Transfer students can save thousands of dollars by attending Pima and avoiding freshman and sophomore high university tuition costs.

    Tips for prospective students

A very important tip for prospective students is to not let yourself slack. In a college it is up to you to get your work done. Some of your teachers at Pima will encourage you and remind you to an extensive level what assignments are due and win, but there are some that leave it all up to you to keep track of your syllabus or the online announcements. Time management will make your college career much more simpler, and planners or simply writing down all your assignments and due dates ahead of time will really help you.

    Bang for the buck

At Pima Community College the teachers are extremely qualified and teach you personally. You can get a great education here, and join many of the programs they offer, such as the medical center, for a tuition less than half of what an university charges. And since the schedule creation is in your hands, you can transfer or earn your associates degree in record timing by taking full time credit hours.

    Am enjoying being here

I am enjoying being here at Pima Community College because it is very close to home, but even if it weren't I am still meeting plenty of new people not only around Tucson, but also from around the world. I like this school because it isn't exceedingly hard that I would want to drop out like most university students, but in face it makes me work harder to earn excelling grades.

    Am learning a lot

How much you learn here is completely up to you. Your schedule is created by you; this makes it easy to find a way for college to fit your life, but also to allow yourself to slack. Pima Community College is not a huge step from high school but a perfect transition into a university due to it's smaller class sizes and because the staff wants to see you succeed. With this being said, the more interaction with my teachers that I receive here at Pima allows me to learn all the information they are teaching me, and to understand my assignments instead of struggling though them confused.

Great for these types of students

Great for students on a tight budget and for those who need a flexible school schedule to fit in with a busy working schedule.

    Tips for prospective students

Take as many assessment tests as you can and talk to an adviser before you enroll in classes.

    Bang for the buck

This is a much better deal than attending a university for general education requirements. In addition, many of the professors that work at PCC also work at the University of Arizona, which gives students that are wanting to transfer sort of a head start in getting to know the staff.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy the learning atmosphere very much but there are little to no social activities for students to attend. It would be extremely enjoyable if there were dances or other social events to get students involved in the school community.

    Am learning a lot

How much you learn completely depends on your professor. Tutoring is available for students who need extra help but sometimes the professors depend on this so they do not have to answer as many questions. It is a very good idea to take assessment tests on as many subjects as you can because it is very frustrating to be in a class that is too low a level for you.

Great for these types of students

Since Pima is much smaller than the University of Arizona, it is great for those students who come from smaller schools or who were homeschooled (like me). Also, since Pima has lots of night/weekend/at-your-own-pace classes, it is great for people who have to work full time or have kids.

    Tips for prospective students

Check Pima out before you graduate. If you live in Tucson, you might even be able to register as a student before you graduate. That gives you a huge boost in enrolling for classes since you will not be a New Student the fall semester. Talk to the advisers. They are very helpful and friendly. Try to get the same one each time. Check out the scholarships that Pima offers. There are lots of them.

    Bang for the buck

Put simply: Pima costs about $55 per credit hour (as of fall 2009). Parking is free. Tutoring help is free. The clubs are free. Most events that come with food only cost $5.

    Am enjoying being here

Smaller campuses that are (for the most part) secluded on the edges of town and have the desert right within them, Pima is a very nice place to be. The teachers, since they have fewer students to deal with, are very personal and greet you semesters after you take their class. The other students you see also are very friendly, and there are several free clubs to join, depending on your interests.

    Am learning a lot

From normal school stuff (academics) to abnormal (Powerpoint, Excel, Word tricks) to local (stuff about Tucson) to just plain fun (I took a class called Defensive Tactics for Law Enforcement), I have learned a lot at Pima. It is very easy to find a quite spot to study and read, and there are plenty of computers to do research on if the you need them.

If you have a specific goal in mind, and they happened to have your major at Pima it's a great choice! If you don't know what you want to do, you might be behind a semester or two because the classes go by too quickly to figure it out while everyone else is working on their majors!

    Tips for prospective students

It is a wonderful choice, especially if you can't afford much alone, all my teachers have been UofA teachers and even the Pima teachers are great. Since there are many campuses, you don't have to live in a specific area in order to attend school, they provide for you by having varities of schools all over tucson. Same with the times, I've taken classes bright shining early to late evening and they all work well for me.

    Am enjoying being here

Everyone on campus is friendly, and you get to meet a lot of new people.

The teachers are great, as long as you keep up with the homework there never is problems!
