The Professors here at UMES are awesome they let you know step by step what it is that you need to know and they also are very accessible when you need to see them. Are there just some subjects you are so week in and you have to take? Tutoring is available everyday and they are an BIG HELP!

I got accepted for the summer and i have already took two classes here. The teachers are excellent and they really helped me start off on the right track. The summer program i was involved in (SEA) provided upcoming freshman like myself with tutors that were upper classman at the university and they were very resourceful.

I love the campus. It's an opportunity not only to get your degree and become successful. You meet new people along the way. Meeting people is very helpful in making sure you can get comfortable with the adjustment of the college life. The buildings are beautiful as well and the dorms are just right.
Bang for the buck
They provided me with eight hundred fifty dollars in pell grants. The rest of the money that I'm using to pay for school is out of loans.
Tips for prospective students
My tip for all those prospective students is to stay focused on your studies and pass all of your exams. But don't forget to have fun! Get involved in extra curricular activities!
Great for these types of students
This campus would be perfect for anyone who wants the best college experience possible. The teachers are great and the parties are as well.

This school is very helpful and doesn't give up on you. If you need help you just have to ask, because most of the professors will help with you only if you try and not slack off. All it takes is a little bit of effort.
Am enjoying being here
The school has a lot of events to attend and things like that. They try to make sure something is going on everyday even if it is something simple just to have everyone entertained.
Bang for the buck
It may be a dig in the pockets but at the same time it has a lot to offer. This school is an HBCU to of course it's going to offer and be there as much as possible for all the African American students, even for those who are not. Don't forget about all the scholarships, FAFSA, loans and grants because there is some money out there to put in towards your tuition or just even your books.
Tips for prospective students
*Apply early.
*Be open minded.
*Never procrastinate.
*Make sure your study habits are up to par because it is just that easy to get off track in college.
Great for these types of students
If your really intrested in Criminal Justice major, this school is a really good place because it has the best of the professors to teach you and never tell you wrong. Also if your intrested in Math or Computer Science we got some of the best professors for that also, who will really work with you if you can't understand something.

Yes you do learn a lot especially since every teacher I have had so far was willing to spend the extra time to make sure I was understanding the material they taught.
Am enjoying being here
Theres plenty of stuff on campus such as going bowling, playing pool, having Xbox 360 tournaments or playing table tennis in the Student Services Center with your friends. Theres also an indoors basketball court and a full football field.
Bang for the buck
For the amount of money I'm spending compared to the the quality of education I'm getting and the number of activities that are available on campus for me, I am definitely getting my moneys worth.
Tips for prospective students
Make friends right away and always be on time for classes.
Great for these types of students
Anyone who wants be a part of a fun and helpful learning environment so they can better themselves and become successful in the future.

University of Maryland Eastern Shore is a historically black college located in Princess Anne, Maryland. However, it has become a very diverse educational environment. UMES is a place where the doors are open for endless opportunities to help build and further your career.
Tips for prospective students
Students planning to attend Maryland Eastern Shore should know that you will not get pacified, instead pushed to exceed limits that one may have thought was impossible. Another important thing to learn if planning to attend Eastern Shore or any college is how to be independent. Having an advisor or someone to look over you is good to keep you on track as well.
Academic Rigor
Academic rigor is vital. Deadlines are taken seriously and majority of the work in college nowadays have to be completed on the computer. So after the due date the assignment will not open back up unless the professor does so. However most of the work that students receive, they will have a whole week to complete. Time management plays a major role in how a student completes their work.
Dorm Life
Dorm life is very welcoming. The room assistants greet us whenever we walk through the door. They change the decorations every two weeks or when a big holiday is coming up. They also have programs that discuss relevant topics such as time management, alcohol abuse, and weight management. Since students are away from home the room assistants do a great job of making us feel like a little family.
Food and Dining
The cafe is huge and filled with great food. There are three meals a day during the week and two on the weekends. The food is consistently cooked well, and the cafe remains clean. Sometimes the food can seem redundant and students start to miss a home cooked meal. Overall the food is good and the area is spotless.
What to do for fun
At UMES there is always something going on whether it be a sporting event, play, school-sponsored party, rally, movie night, and much more. Sometimes you may even need to put all of the events in your calendar to keep up!
Bang for the buck
Though we do like to have fun, our school is very big on giving back to the community. When you go on our website there is always something posted about a charity event we would be having and they always give you instructions on how to volunteer.
Great for these types of students
UMES is really great for those pursuing some sort of science degree. Although we do have other good departments to offer, the science department is rapidly growing and they have excellent programs that students have the opportunity of entering after completing their undergraduate.
Clubs and Activities
We have an ample amount of clubs and extracurricular activities for students to participate in, like student government, ethnic groups, and multiple groups that focus on a students specific major.
Greek Life
We have several chapters which are Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
Campus Safety
UMES has something called Hawk Alert which can be an app on your phone, your sent to your school email. Hawk alert keeps students updated on what is going on around campus. UMES has a police department on campus and at night you will always see a police vehicle. If living on campus, security oversees the building all night until the morning. UMES is very serious about the safety of their students and staff.

You Will Love The Programs That They Have There. The Classes Are Small, So You Can Have A One On One With The Teacher. The Teachers Are Also Very Excessible Through E-Mail.
Did enjoy being here
I Personally Didnt Enjoy Being At UMES Because I Am Used To The City. But, UMES Is Put In A Good Location Because You Really Have No Choice But To Focus OnYour Acadmeics. There Aren't Many Distractions There Unless You Make Them Yourself.
Bang for the buck
UMES Is Priced Really Well If You Dont Have The Money To Pay For College. And The College Experience Is Worth The Money You Are Paying. The Teachers Are Also Really Good And They Do Their Job Very Well.
Tips for prospective students
*Stay Focused
*Use Your Resources
*Make Friends With The Teachers
* Stay Ahead On Your Studies
*Make Friends WithThe Other Students In Your Class
*If You Miss A Day.. Make Sure You Contact Your Teacher As Soon As Possible
Great for these types of students

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is a wonderful university to further your education at. You will be among a diverse population of students and faculty. As i biology major i have been presented with many great opportunities from meeting different types of people, volunteering at the local hospital, and doing a research project on the study of Malaria. Be open to new things and explore them here at UMES.
Am enjoying being here
Although UMES is not in a major city, you can find plenty of interseting things to do. I have been to Ocen City, MD, Washington DC, Baltimore, MD, and Hampton, VA. These are places that are within 2 to 3 hours of campus. The Greyhound Bus also stops on campus for your traveling needs as well as a local shuttle to take you to Wal-Mart, the mall, and local shopping centers.
Bang for the buck
If you have financial aid issues, the financial aid office is always willing to lend a hand. Do not hesitate to ask someone in any department for help. This university is quite affordable and there are scholarship opportunities, so if you find yourself in a bind ask for help.
Tips for prospective students
Upon coming to UMES be ready to experience new things, makes friends, and make changes. As students you do have the power to improve this wonderful University. Come with an open mind ready and willing to not only learn but have some fun as well.
