Founded in 1865, Bowie State University is the oldest Historically Black College and University in Maryland and one of the ten oldest in the United States. Bowie State encompasses colleges of Arts & Sciences, Education, Business, and Professional Studies granting undergraduate degrees in 22 majors. In addition to classroom space, the Bowie State campus is home to a satellite operations control center co-managed with NASA and an all-Steinway performing arts center. For athletically inclined students, Bowie State fields 13 men’s and women’s teams known as the Bulldogs.
Bowie State University is a small school with about 6,000 students. While mostly commuter, it serves those in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area and is easily accessible by public transportation. Most importantly, the campus is a tight-knit community where students and instructors alike feel like they are apart of an academic family.
