Duke University was founded in 1838. Originally Trinity College, an endowment from tobacco tycoon James Buchanan Duke resulted in the name change and the “Gothic Wonderland” campus it is today. Named one of Forbes top ten universities to “produce the most Forbes 400 billionaires,” Duke’s very selective admissions have resulted in The Huffington Post ranking it one of the most challenging universities to get admitted to in the US.
