Will learn a lot
HBU has a lot to offer and has a very well rounded academic selection.
Will enjoy being here
I love being at HBU. The people are friendly (most of the time), there is always something fun and exciting to do, and HBU creates a very comfortable atmosphere.
Bang for the buck
HBU is expensive, but it really is one of the best colleges to go to for your education. The price is a bit much, but i know I am get a wonderful education.
Tips for prospective students
The best way to experenice HBU, you have to stay on campus. Many of my best memories at HBU have been in my dorm.

Great for these types of students
Best for students who want to have a growth in their spiritual lives or students who would like to continue their spiritual experience to grow even more.

Am learning a lot
The professors at HBU know alot about their field of interest and share that passion with the students. Besides classroom instruction, with small class sizes, the professors are willing to answer questions and discuss material outside the classroom.
Am enjoying being here
There are not many student activities and there are faculty members who are opposed to any new organizations. Besides student activities, it is difficult to keep up with requirements as the rules keep changing almost daily on what is required to graduate; what forms to fill out for permissions to take classes, etc.
Bang for the buck
No specific opinions here...I know a few people who have been accepted to law schools and medical schools from HBU during the last year but I also hear stories about employers discounting HBU degrees.
Tips for prospective students
Study hard in high school, do well on the SAT, and be willing to apply yourself at HBU. Keep involved in activities outside of HBU in order to keep a good transcript for graduate school.
Great for these types of students
HBU is a well-respected nursing school and is also good for Christianity majors. If you do not care about extra-curricular activities (or don't need them for graduate school), HBU is great for those areas. Also great for students who prefer one-on-one instruction.

Am learning a lot
At Houston Baptist University, there are so many things to learn when arriving at any college, but HBU is a place where there are great professors that teach you the material in their own way. Many of my professors add their own flair to the class, which provides great interest and it becomes an exciting class to attend.
Am enjoying being here
As I am a commuter, I really do not get the opportunity to stay on campus for some things, but I still have had a great experience here. There are so many things to do here, there are events held almost everyday and when you have friends when is there never a time to waist. The atmosphere is great, the people are very nice, and its just a great place to be, to be free of any pressures and enjoy yourself.
Bang for the buck
Yes this school is a bit pricey, but you are getting your money's worth. If you think you can not afford it, do not worry, this school gives out great scholarships. They do it based on your rank and SAT or ACT scores, so just study hard and you without a doubt recieve a well amount.
Tips for prospective students
The only tip I really have is that this school is Baptist so we do have christian courses that we do take. I am not Baptist, I am Catholic, but even because of it I have learned new things and have gotten closer to God. Just make sure you are willing to take these types of courses and if going to a religion based school is what you want. There is nothing wrong with what religion you posses, being that we do have a vast variety of students who are of different religions.
Great for these types of students
This is a great school for any student who is up to anything. You will learn a lot, have a great experience, and become a better person. Its also great place for Pre-med students, being that we do have an excellent medical program. It is also great for spiritual students, being that we do take take religion seriously and would like to reach out to as many people as we can.

Will learn a lot
I've gone to the campus and I've asked the coordinators and administrators, current students and some of the professors at HBU all the questions that I need to know. And I think that HBU is one of the greatest places to earn your bachelor's or master's degree in whatever you're planning to major in. They have given great confidence of attending here in the Fall of 2011 and I'm eager to learn new things. I'm Buddhist, and HBU is strongly Christian-based and you are required to take 3 classes dealt based on the religion. I thought about how I could be struggling with it along with the 'points' that you are required to reach before graduation, but I'm now confident that I will achieve my goals and get to learn the Christianity faith.
Will enjoy being here
I'm planning to live on campus because it's easier to deal with the events, attend classes, and study for my classes. The people and staff at HBU are so welcoming and friendly with a positive attitude. The lakefronts and walking trails are all so beautiful, you never want to leave campus! The classroom student teacher ratio is 1:15 so it's personal. The professors know your name and they say hi to you as you're walking. It's such a warm environment.
Bang for the buck
HBU is expensive, I'll admit that. But if you apply for FAFSA early, you're bound to receive some sort of help from the government. If there isn't enough grants to cover your tuition, there's always student loans that they offer to students as well. HBU offers PLENTY of scholarship money based on ranking percentile, SAT and ACT scores in high school if you are an incoming freshman. HBU also offers merit awards to TRANSFER students based on your current college GPA at your current institution along with an additional Phi Theta Kappa scholarship if you are in good standing with them at your current college. Scholarships from other foundations and companies are also available and accepted at HBU. So if you set it up and complete your tasks, you should be good!
Tips for prospective students
HBU is difficult to keep with if you aren't motivated and dedicated to your work and studies along with the required things you have to do in order to graduate. The course workload is also more difficult compared to a 2 year community college like HCC. Make sure you get your finances done early as well!
Great for these types of students
HBU has a legit and competitive nursing and pre-med program. They are the college of liberal arts, so if you want to major in music, arts, or business, it's all there. HBU is a well-rounded university that I would recommend to any student!

Am learning a lot
I am learning a lot from the teachers and even more about myself. The way the professors teach and lecture (some of them) is helpful and encouraging for all kinds of knowledge. The curriculum is shaped in a way that you are learning spiritually and wholly in every class. It is a great feeling of unity.
Am enjoying being here
HBU is my home. From over a year ago when I got married I moved here and have stayed for the whole time. I enjoy the atmosphere and location. It's a great home away from home whenever that will be after college. I love it.
Bang for the buck
It is very expensive, but HBU has not given me a reason to feel it is not worth the price. It is a lot of money, but God is in control and he led me here with my husband and it has been nothing but good.
Tips for prospective students
Know that God is in control when coming here. The price is not a reason to leave. Come with a plan on staying and the ride/journey will be worth the price. Be open and willing to change because college is a great lesson in life and it is a crazy experience. Live laugh and learn. But learning is the most important. It's not for everyone. And by it, I mean college. It's hard and you need the determination. HBU is also not for everyone, but there are many schools out there that are great and different. It's not like High School so don't think it will be. HBU is the best though, but I'm bias. :)
Great for these types of students
It's great for all walks of life. You won't know if it's for you unless you take a leap of literal faith. Trust God and the school could be for you.

Am learning a lot
HBU has a lot to offer for mostly everyone. However, we are on the smaller side for colleges so we do not have as much choices for majors as the public school or bigger private schools, which is understandable. But, with that said HBU has a lot of great professors in all of our majors that are willing to make each one of us learn to the best of our abilities. Believe me, I am a science major and boy am I learning a lot! Plus with HBU's small size we have a smaller ratio between us and our professors which is AWESOME because it helps not being just a number or another face in the classroom. Additionally, HBU is changing the curriculum to a more liberal-arts based foundation which will even further expand your education.
Am enjoying being here
If I had a do-over and could pick my college again, my choice would still be HBU. I love it here! People are nice, caring, and just overall funny. Plus, we have a lot (maybe not compared to some other colleges) of extracurricular activities which people can get involved in. Oh and if we do not have a club that you are interested in on campus you can make one. As long as you follow the guidelines and get them approved HBU welcomes new organizations. My friends just made a Nerf club... I know we are all just big kids here!
Bang for the buck
The truth is HBU is expensive. However, we have many financial aid opportunities with many scholarships and grants available. (You just have to work for them.) But with all that said HBU is worth every penny!!!
Tips for prospective students
1. Get the highest scores possible on the ACT and SAT because HBU gives higher scholarships for the higher scores.
2. If you can choose to live on campus, do it! Living on campus is worth the room and board because people feel more at home and you get to know almost everyone.
3. Get involved!!!
Great for these types of students
HBU is great for people who are hard working, people who loved to get involved, people who love to laugh and be goofy, and people who are open-minded. HBU also has a very, and I mean very competitive Pre-med and nursing programs, so if you want to be in the medical field and are dedicated to studying than choose HBU.

All the teachers are well-rounded. Not only do they want to teach your education, but teach you wisdom, and about life. They actually care about being involved in your life, and that you are successful.
Am enjoying being here
I have found friends among my teachers and classmates. It's very diverse, with different backgrounds. Everyone is very successful, and not dramatic.
Bang for the buck
It is expensive, but the staff help you find scholarship and loans. It is well-worth paying the money. My father was without a job for a whole year, and I have still managed to make it through.
Tips for prospective students
Talk to a student who's involved, and also a professor about the school.
Great for these types of students
Christian, diverse, open-minded, hunger for learning, hungry to succeed.

Houston Baptist University is the PERFECT place for anyone looking for more than just an education. Not only does this university concern itself with academic success, Houston Baptist University concerns itself with developing a whole person. Houston Baptist University nourishes academics, spirituality, and teaches you how to be a strong, independent, successful person in the real world.
Tips for prospective students
Definitely be prepared to hit the ground running! Houston Baptist University is very active and has a lot in store for all of its students.
Academic Rigor
The classes are very demanding, yet if you stay focused and up to date, you should have no problem attaining that 4.0 you desire!
Dorm Life
Dorm life is GREAT. It is such an amazing opportunity to live on campus and to really get to experience the school for all it has to offer. Being on campus also encourages you to study and form new friendships and become more active on campus!
Food and Dining
I personally love the declining balance dollars that HBU gives with meal plans. You can use these for coffee, salad, chips, drinks, anything! They're the best part about the meal plans!
What to do for fun
Campus organizations give you SO much to do. No matter what time or what day, there is always something fun going on!
Bang for the buck
HBU is one of the best universities you could choose to further your education and to develop you into a whole and amazing successful person.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
We have GREAT traditions. Definitely coming in as a freshman makes the experience even more fun! (But I can't disclose our traditions!)
Great for these types of students
HBU is great for anyone. Don't think that if you aren't Baptist you can't come here. I have so many friends who range from being Muslim to Catholic and back. HBU is a great place for all students!
Clubs and Activities
There are WAY too many organizations on campus to count! There's definitely something for everyone!
Greek Life
Greek life is definitely active at HBU! There are many different sororities and fraternities to choose from! Plus, rush week is fantastic!
Campus Safety
We have gates all around campus which you either give your HBU ID number or key in a code to get in! Super safe and police officers are always on campus and their office is directly on campus!

HBU is a great place for meeting new people. There are so many opportunities to get involved and make lasting connections with people. Here, you will truly have a great college experience.
Tips for prospective students
You definitely want to get involved. The more involved you are, the better your experience there will be.
Academic Rigor
The classes aren't easy, but they are small which allows a better student-teacher relationship. The professors are really in tune with you as a person, not just another student.
Dorm Life
Compared to most freshman living quarters at other campuses, HBU has pretty nice sized dorms. Girls have different living options than guys, but their pretty similar. You'll find that enduring Freshman living is definitely worth it once you see the upperclassmen's living areas.
Food and Dining
The food is fresh and healthy. There are different places on campus to eat and your student ID gets you discounts at some local restaurants.

I have only attended this university this past summer, but I can already tell I am going to love it here. The campus safe and pleasant and I appreciate that it is a christian affiliated university . I know that Houston Baptist University will be an important part of my life, all the way to graduation and beyond.
Tips for prospective students
Try to get as many scholarships and grants as you can, as soon as you can. Don't waste any time!
Academic Rigor
So far I have only experienced the summer session of this university, but as with any university you attend, you will need to practice self-discipline.
Bang for the buck
It is a bit expensive, but worth it. Try to get as many scholarships and grants as you can, as soon as you can. Don't waste any time!
