Am learning a lot
ASU is a great place for learning. The teachers are very nice. Therefore they help you with your classes. If you are failing and do not understand. They will help you or even waver your grades to help you out. They have a lot of people to help you if you need tutoring. I am learning a lot at this school. I am happy that I choose it because I hear from other friends how at their schools, their professors don't help them. I just say sorry, my teachers help a lot.
Am enjoying being here
When friends and people from church ask me how I like Albany. I say I really enjoy this school. The school is not too big or too small. The campus is very pretty and there is something always going on. Whether its a party or forums and events. The football games and band are awesome. The basketball games are fun too. The dorms are nice and they are always having something with battle of the halls. I just love my ASU.
Bang for the buck
If your looking for a school that has nice teachers, students, nice looking, fun, then ASU is for you. Its not very expensive. Each semester rounds off to paying about $ 5,000 dollars. Which is cheap compared to other HBCU's. The financial aid is a bit slow, but they work with everyone to make sure you get what is needed.
Tips for prospective students
If you don't want to go to a school in a small city then this is not the school for you. Also if your from a big city and you attend Albany, just try to enjoy it. Don't judge the school because Albany (the city) is small. Its not going to be like if you went to a big city school. But Albany is fun and you will enjoy it even if its in a small city. Also if your planning on attending ASU and you got your packet. Make sure you turn your stuff in on time. Including dorms. Because the dorms are first come first serve. So if you turn them in late your not going to get one of the nicer dorms. Also you need to study and go to class. Its fun to party but too much parting can cause you to lose focus and then you will end up failing. So i advise you to study before partying.
Great for these types of students
ASU is great for students who want to go to an HBCU and not pay expensively for it. Albany state may be cheap but they still look at grades and expect you to do well. Its also great for students, who like to have fun, party, attend games. This school has a lot of pride. So you will enjoy it. You will especially see it at Homecoming or the Classics.

Am learning a lot
I have been attending asu for 1 semster so far. Its so much to adjust to, being away from home in this small town. Even though the town is small there are plenty of fast food restaurants and clubs. I've learned to take action with my studies because there are many distractions in the college life.
Am enjoying being here
It is a very hot city with very weird looking bugs lol but its a great environment. The people here are nice and friendly. There are plenty of clubs and organizations on campus that are very driven and goal orientated.
Bang for the buck
its worth every penny. The only thing i will say is that the financial aid is a little slow with processing. but they work with you in the financial aid office.
Tips for prospective students
The most helpful tip I c an give by experience, is to STAY FOCUSED. Being away from home means no parents telling you when to be in or what to do. It is your responsibility to stay focused and not lose sight of the bigger picture. That is earning your degree. I'm not saying don't party... just know how to balance parties, studies, eating and sleeping.
Great for these types of students
great for open minded and prospective students.

I am learning a lot at this school partly because I am taking classes that have challenging professors.
Tips for prospective students
This is a good school, with a lot of fun people to be around. When you come to college focus on school, but remember to also have fun, get involved and make friends.

Am learning a lot
There are some good teachers here at Albany state and if you are willing to learn, they are willing to teach.
Am enjoying being here
It is easy to get around and find your classes on campus and there are a lot of historical landmarks here.
Bang for the buck
Albany State is a very inexpensive school. Its only about 4,000 a semester which is cheaper then most Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Tips for prospective students
Albany is a small city so it can take some time to get used to if your not from a small city yourself. It can get cold during late November and early December so please be prepared. Also, you must have transportation because most places are not walking distance.
Great for these types of students
Albany is a great place for students who prefer the small city setting and it is a Historically Black College and University and it will look good on your resume to have graduated from such an institution. It will also be great for students who have cars to travel to others places.

Am learning a lot
The professors here are very knowledgeable about the courses they teach. They are strict about getting work turned in on time but only because they want to see the students here succeed.
Am enjoying being here
Since I've been here i have really enjoyed it. The people are friendly and the campus is full of organizations and clubs that keep you busy and keep things interesting.
Tips for prospective students
For all students planning to enroll at ASU make sure you have developed great study habits and are coming here to earn a degree not just to party because if your priorities are not in line you will fail and it is very hard to bring your gpa back up.
Great for these types of students
ASU is a great school for any kind of student. We have all types of students here so no one is alone.

Albany State Univeristy is full of school spirit and education driven. Their goal is to help every student entering to discover their gifts and talent inside of them and use that gift and talent to the best of their ability. Just like their moto says, Potential is Realized here.
Tips for prospective students
Apply on-time and meet all deadlines. Do not procrastinate and make sure you have done your part completely. Getting into college is about team work. Half of the work is meant to be done by you the student and the other 50% is meant to be done by the school. The most important part is your part. You ae the one trying to get into the school therefor you must do all the things required of you for the school to assist you any further.
Academic Rigor
The classes aren't that difficult. The teachers will work with you and take the time out to make sure that you pass the classes. However, if you don't put the work and effort into passing then you will not pass. You are given plenty of time to do all the assignments but it's up to you how you manage your time whether you spend most of it enjoying the college life and equally using your time to study and then have fun. The courses are not that hard and the teachers are really nice and care about your grade if they see that you care yourself.
Dorm Life
Dormmates are friendly and drama free. They are there to assist you when you need guidance. During the holidays, the dorms have competitions to see which hall is the best. They have dorm step teams. You will have to check with the dorm leader about that and anything going on in your dorm. Living in a dorm is the best way to fully experience the college life but be sure you also stay focused on your school.
Food and Dining
If you don't want to eat in the cafe, you can always eat at subway, pizza hut, or the bagel shop. These are all located on campus and in walking distance. If you don't want to eat on campus then just a few miles away also in walking distance in downtown albany are a bunch of restaurants.
What to do for fun
Swimming, yoga, play video games and pool in the student center. Go to events put on by the student government association. Join clubs and teams.
Campus Safety
There is a Zero Tolerance policy. Police officers take pride in making sure that all students are safe while on campus. Everywhere you look, you will see an officer just walking around making sure everything is in order. It's not just the officer's job to make sure we are all safe but it's also the student's job to make sure our campus is safe. You are attending the school yourself so if you see anything going on that's against the rules then make sure to report to the campus police or any faculty and staff on duty.

Am learning a lot
YES I AM DEFINITELY LEARNING A LOT, AND THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS TO ME. I CAME TO SCHOOL FOR A DEGREE AND THAT IS WHAT IM GETTING. DO BE REAL, NOT EVERY PROFESSOR THAT RECEIVES A CHECK FROM ASU CARES ABOUT YOU, SADLY, BUT, THE ONES WHO DO- U WILL FEEL IT. STICK BY THEM, LEARN ALL YOU CAN, AND LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY!
Am enjoying being here
It depends on what you are used to, and where your from. Our generation is so caught up on fashion and hoods per say, that they are loosing focus. Do not get caught up in the Greek Life or you will loose yourself. Greek is not for everyone. If you do decide to take part, don't go according to numbers and status, but pledge from your heart. Just keep to a small circle of friends. I do and I'm doing okay.
Bang for the buck
If you are out of state, you will find yourself in a financial nightmare per say. Keep in touch with financial aide and all third party finances. If you are in state, then you are most m likely good to go with some minor tweaks.
Tips for prospective students
You are never to judge a book by its cover. ASU has its good and its bad. Albany is a small city, so if your use to big cities, make the best of it. Reminder that it is an HBCU and sometimes they move very slow(particularly financial aide). Just do your part in turning in all of your paperwork on time. However in terms of education, it is the student that makes the school, not the school that makes the student. There is no excuse to fail. They offer tutors on top of tutors. They have a program in the library(CETLA) it is the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Advising. Just keep in mind why you came to college, and all else will follow.
Great for these types of students
Those students who like small cities, this is good for you. They do party a lot if you are on the fun side. But keep in mind that you came to school to further your education not party lifestyle. A lot of people get caught up, especially their freshman year and loose focus. But with some of the caring professors and excellent learning services you can get back on track.

Am learning a lot
As a collegiate student at Albany State University, I have learned so many lessons. I have learned to become more of a independent collegiate student. I have also develop better studying habits while achieving a desirable GPA. Being active on campus and the community really help me appreciate life and school in general.
Am enjoying being here
Although the unversity is not as big many other colleges/universities in Georgia, I really enjoy being here. Each year, the university population, campus and program activities is expanding.
Bang for the buck
One of the cheapest universities to attend in georgia. As I move closer to my goals, I realize that every dollar that I spent was worth spending.
Tips for prospective students
College is like a test. Everything you learn and go through in college will prepare you for the real world. I have not always been a person who believe in doing my best. Once I realized how to succeed in life, I became more motivated to do my best in college. Future leaders of America, its not always about where you are from or how smart you are. Its about your sacrifice and determination to succeed. Know what you want in life and dont let anyone stop you from achieving those goals. If you can keep your priorities clear, you will succeed. Never forget to help others in need. You will be blessed.
Great for these types of students

Academic Rigor
Good teacher and classes. Just amke sure to stay in contact with your profesors and never be afriad to seek extra help, because it is always offered.
Dorm Life
Dorm like is great. You meet new people, and the dorm themselves are actually good compared to others I have seen at different schools.
Food and Dining
Cafe is okay. I'm not a fan, however they have a Chick-fil-a, Subway, and Pizza Hut so I'm good with the schools food and dining.

I usually get together with friends and we have movie nights. We'll sometimes go outside and hang out around campus. It's really up to you to create your own fun.

We have a very active Greek life here on campus.

Albany State University is located in a medium sized town. It is a nice sized school not too big not too small. The campus isn't confusing at all; it's very easy to navigate
Tips for prospective students
1) Don't be nervous. The upperclassmen are very friendly and helpful
2) Don't be shy. Like I said most people there are chill.
3) Get to know your professors and your advisors
4) Avoid anything before 9 a.m.
5) Try to take at least 15 hours per semester if you're not planning on doing summer school, otherwise you can get away with 12.
6) It's a party town. Don't try to go out every night. There will always be another party.
7) Procrastination will have you crying at 3 a.m. Do the work ahead of time
8) Be yourself.
Academic Rigor
I am a biology major which is one of the harder majors. The work load isn't heavy at all but the complexity is heavy. College is definitely more challenging than high school. Waiting til the last minute is suicide. And if you're a chemistry major well you might wanna request the Xanax from your doctor before you get to college.
Dorm Life
Freshman who aren't from the area are required to live on campus. I am from the town so I wasn't required to but I wanted to get the full experience of college life. It is definitely something new. Living with a roommate isn't easy and it's part of the reason I am currently living at home for my second semester. However, dorms do give you the chance to meet new people and make new friends. You also learn alot about yourself. The dorm advisors are pretty cool and they are very helpful. Every student should live on campus at least one semester because it is quite an experience.
Food and Dining
LOVE IT!!! At ASU the food in the cafeteria is awesome. There are six stations: The Deli (where you have sandwiches), Home Style (the kind of stuff your mom would cook), The Grill, The Pizza Line, Desert Bar, and Salad Bar. The breakfast is pretty good too. There's a station for cereal, one for coffee, one for fruit, and the hot breakfast is served in the Home Style line. Now besides the Caf there are a few restaurants on campus. They include: Chic-fil-a, Pizza Hut, Subway and Einstein's. All of them have great food.
What to do for fun
There is always something going on at ASU. Be it movie night on the yard, pep rallies, or seminars. There are also things hosted by the school at places on the town. This year i attended ASU bowling night and skate night. I mentioned the parties earlier. I am not a party person but there is always a party somewhere in Albany and you will hear about them! I almost forgot there are several clubs on campus. Science clubs, political clubs, and fine arts clubs are just a few types. There is something for everyone.
Bang for the buck
Albany State University is one of the few HBCUs in GA. It is well known for it's academics. Even so it is one of the less expensive colleges you'll find. You get a top notch education for reasonable prices. An in state student staying on campus with 12 credit hours will pay about 6K a semester which is not bad at all for a four year school. A private school will be twice as much for the exact same education.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
ASU is nicknamed The Unsinkable because it was hit by the flood of '94. There is a chimney stack in the middle of the campus. It is the remains of one the original buildings. There is a mark on the chimney that shows how high the water rose. The school is very historical.
Great for these types of students
All students. Nerds, preps, loners, thespians, religious. College isn't about labels. Especially not this one.
Clubs and Activities
There are sororities and fraternities. Several sports teams. Student government. Musical clubs. Science clubs. Chess club. Religious clubs. And don't be afraid to start your own club.
Greek Life
Well I'm a freshman so idk much. Just don't step on any of the plots of the Greek organizations if you're not one of them.
Campus Safety
Albany State is one of the safest campuses in the nation. Google it if you .don't believe me. The campus has it's own police department on campus that is completely separate from the city's. The officers are always on patrol and you can call at anytime.
