Great for these types of students

-GREAT for Ag students, (tons of scholarships offered from CSUF) -liberal studies major, -tuition is low -help is available in library from tutors

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan on attending this school, I recommend you apply for classes ASAP, because budget cuts have taken a toll on a lot of students. Also, don't be too proud to ask for help, everyone needs it at some point, just ask! Go to Library for laptop lending up to two hours available (must be a student). If you're driving, I recommend getting to school early to get a decent parking.

    Bang for the buck

If you don't have a laptop, they let you borrow one (very helpful), also there are always professors or tutors willing to help (within their time).

    Am enjoying being here

Great campus- very mellow, friendly peers and professors, many places to lock up your bike. Our student union has three fast food restaurants: Panda Express, Subway, and Chick-fil-A. There is also a small pool haul/ bowling area/ game room to go and have some fun.

    Am learning a lot

Even when taking my general ed. classes, I've learned more than what I've expected. The teachers that I've had this semester all seem thrilled about teaching and hearing student responses.

    Tips for prospective students

I will be transferring somewhere else really soon!

    Will enjoy being here

Seems like a decent school. Not my first chose.

    Will learn a lot

Too many students and not enough teachers. Takes the average student 8 years to get a degree.

    Campus Safety

Fresno is naturally a dangerous place, but the on campus police are very effective at patrolling. There are also spots about campus with emergency buttons that will immediately call the police. These precautions make the students feel better about walking at night.

    Greek Life

Greek life is a big part of Fresno. There are something like 26 sororities on campus, and they are your best bet for a social group with similar interests.

    Clubs and Activities

Between the array of clubs and the students who are excited about them, there is always something to dedicate your time to.

Great for these types of students

students pursuing agricultural carreers should definately consider Fresno State as a top choice. The school is excellent at facilitating these students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

vintage days are a fun way to keep things interesting. It's like a street faire that reminds the students of a smalltown atmosphere.

    Bang for the buck

on campus, the prices of most everything are rediculously priced. There are, however, good sales at kennel every semester.

    What to do for fun

The bowling alley on campus is always a fun backup, while many students choose to join fraternaties and sororities for a built in friend/activity base.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall is a little expensive for guests, compared to the quality of the food, but the guest resturants make things interesting and keep the cafeteria lively.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are overpriced and have inconsiderate policies for students who want to move somewhere else.

    Academic Rigor

From what i have heard, comparitively, Fresno state's close proximity learning makes it easier for students to learn. The courses themeselves are challanging, but it mostly depends on effort.

    Tips for prospective students

Find an advisor in your field of study and start out slow, do not overestimate your abilities until you have taken a semester with twelve or more units.

    In three sentences

Fresno state has an excellent, hands-on agricultural program that closes part of the gap between school and a career. Budget cuts have affected the colleges within the university and have left a bad taste in the mouths of the students involved. Other than the unavoidable budget cuts, the campus staff have made this place feel like the students are actually involved in the learning process instead of us being strictly on the receiving end.

Great for these types of students

If you like the outdoors and wilderness, Yosemite National Park is near, great for hiking. If you enjoy the beach a nice road trip to Pismo beach will do wonders. If you have a cheerful, friendly attitude and you are full of school spirit you are welcome with open arms. Mainly if you are ready for a great learning experience Fresno State is the place for you! GO BULLDOGS!

    Tips for prospective students

If you do plan to come here be prepared the weather changes drastically at times. But if you have not experienced real seasons you will be amazed. For the winter bring warm clothing and for the summer get ready for the pool. Also do not feed the squirrels especially it they look friendly, I did once and almost got attacked. Last but not least, just be yourself! Everyone here is extremely friendly and they will like you for who you are. :)

    Bang for the buck

Definitely if you have financial need our campus offers a variety of scholarships, and you may think they are fake and that they don't really give them out. But they do give them out, I personally have not applied from them, but I have friends who have and they do receive the money. Plus if you are running low on money and cannot afford a laptop the library will gladly lend you one with a student id of course. They have your choice of Dell or Mac.

    Am enjoying being here

Although it is my fourth year now I do miss home. Like the saying There's no place like home! It very true! I do enjoy being here though, I have made new friends and have even joined a sorority now. It is very different from home and I enjoy every minute of my learning experience.

    Am learning a lot

Yes indeed I am learning a lot! I am from the coast and I did not know much about agriculture, although here with my peers I have learned plenty. This campus has a variety of classes that you can attend. I have taken classes that range from Drama to Kickboxing. They have no limit to what you can learn.

    Tips for prospective students

CSU, Fresno has one of the largest libraries in California, and the nation which over one-million-plus books including various other resources. We have a great athletics department, namely our men's baseball team which won the NCAA Tournament in 2008. We also have a fantastic and top-notch music department.

    What to do for fun

Campus activities are constantly happening, with free movie showings being put on by a team of dedicated students and many other options to choose from. A shopping mall is located not far from Fresno State, as well.

    Food and Dining

Fresno State boasts a wide variety of dining choices, from fast food to sushi to the local Doghouse Grill. Also nearby are several restaurants not affiliated with the campus, per se, but that are within walking distance and the budgets of most students.

    Dorm Life

Unfortunately, I live with my parents, and am unqualified to comment fully on the state of dorm life at Fresno State. However, I have been told by several acquaintances that the dorm life is the same as any other college: full of people you'll remember for the rest of your life.

    Academic Rigor

I know from both personal experience and the word of my classmates that the courses at Fresno State provide a satisfactory amount of material. A rich education is there for the taking, if the right classes are selected with the help of a major adviser.

    Tips for prospective students

Relax! CSUF can put you through the ringer if you sign up for challenging classes, but don't let that put you off. Nobody said learning is easy, and both the teachers and tutoring services will be sure to have you passing your classes with flying colors.

    In three sentences

A friendly campus nestled in the heart of a city that's small enough to feel comfortable, with home town charm. The instructors know their stuff and deliver lectures of the highest caliber, providing a friendly learning environment that welcomes all students interested in higher education. Definitely a quality choice for both education and environment.

Great for these types of students

Fresno State is a great fit for students who want a diverse experience, interactive classes, and a wonderful curriculum. It's a great fit for students in the Central Valley, and it's close to tons of attractions, only a few hours from lakes, the beach and the mountains.

    Tips for prospective students

Always pay your tuition on time; you can be dropped from your classes if you don't. If you really want a class, and it's full, be persistent. Get wait listed, go to the class and talk to the professor. If you show how determined you are, you have a better chance of getting into the class. Sign up for classes ASAP. And most importantly, study hard, but always remember to take some time for yourself.

    Bang for the buck

College in California is expensive, but Fresno State is definitely worth the amount. They offer a variety of classes, and do the best they can to work around the budget cuts and offer the classes that students need.

    Am enjoying being here

Fresno State is a beautiful campus. I love walking to class, and enjoying the scenery and the squirrels that run about the grounds. The professors are concerned, and make themselves available whenever you have a question. There is always an event going on on campus, so there is something new to see every time I come to class. It is amazing.

    Am learning a lot

I went to a junior college before coming to Fresno State, and the amount of information I have learned at Fresno State is double what I learned before. It is amazing. I've learned about people and events that have changed the world for us today, and yet they were never a part of the lessons we were taught in other years. It is an amazing experience to learn so much every time I attend class.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who like a laid back atmosphere but are challenged in the classroom. School spirit is all over campus. You can meet all different kinds of people who are very nice. For people who like it hot in the summer and cold in the winter.

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest to visit Fresno's campus during Vintage Days. Also look for housing early because the prices increase later in the summer.

    Bang for the buck

There is a lot of housing for students within 2 miles of campus that is very affordable and convenient.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is very laid back but the enthusiasm of the students is everyone. This is definitely a school with school spirit. There is always something going on whether it be something educational or something fun. Vintage Days is an event during the spring that people should go to that shows off what the school is really like.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers are very helpful and knowledgeable. I am learning a lot from not just the teachers but also from the students are are very friendly and patient.

Great for these types of students

Students that are willing to work hard and manage there time wisely are great not only for Fresno State but for any other College or University. Just keep trying and dont give up, and good luck to everyone.

    Tips for prospective students

People planning to come to Fresno State just make sure that your willing to take time and do what has to be done so you will pass all of your classes. Specially Students coming out of high school. You need to get rid of all your bad habits because this is college now and you can get kicked out of the CSU System if you dont keep a 2.0 GPA. So watch out for that, and try to just make sure you dont get to many units at one time.

    Bang for the buck

Well to me if seems expensive but compared to other CSU's Fresno State is farely unexpensive. Besides if you qualify for financial aid you wont have to worry about much. There's also jobs avaliable at campus, or near the campus which is really helpful. Most businesses try to give jobs to students to help them out finacially.

    Am enjoying being here

The enviornment is great, there's a lot of people and you get to meet people from all kinds of different places. Its a calm place but also fun. People get scared because the media always has something bad to say about fresno but near the campus you never see or hear something that's has happened.

    Am learning a lot

So what can i say? First of all college life is not the same as high school. If you want to get something out of college you need to get your stuff straight and put a lot of effort into your work. I think that students that want to learn will as long as they dont become lazy and procrastinate. Fresno State has great professors, most really care about there students and want them to succeed. But that takes a lot of effort from the students because college professors will not be telling you what to do they just let you know and after that it's all on you. You need to become responsible.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're attending, visit before classes start. It's easy to get lost in that large campus.

The price would be okay if there were more classes available instead of a certain amount of classes that fill quickly.

    Will enjoy being here

Beautiful campus with an amazing library and helpful, respectful staff.

    Will learn a lot

Sitting in the classrooms listening to the professors speak is thrilling. They understand exactly how to teach and how to keep students interested on the subject even when their just visitors.

Great for these types of students

There is definitely agriculture so if that is your interest look into it. Great for all sorts of students. There is a variety, again, I cannot stress this enough. Look into what all the schools offer. Good luck. Visit your schools. Visiting Fresno was what changed my decision.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely visit to see if it is some place you see yourself coming. The weather (I have heard) is an issue. Temperatures are supposed to be either really hot or really cold. Do not listen to rumors, ask actual students about the school; they are familiar with it since they are attending it daily.

    Bang for the buck

It is not super expensive but, it also isn't cheap. I have not yet begun classes or living there so it is too soon to decide that.

    Will enjoy being here

The location offers a lot. It isn't crazy over the top. Its a comfortable setting with stores and fast food restaraunts all around. So if you're hungry you can go on a hunt! I was able to contact my future roommate before hand and we have already become good friends. Fresno offers a lot of opportunities you just need to look into something that fits your needs.

    Will learn a lot

Being away from home I know will teach me a lot. This is a good opportunity for me. Speaking to professionals also teaches you that many of the teachers in colleges teach in more than one school. As a mentor had once told me A Cal State is a Cal State is Cal State.

Great for these types of students

If you are looking for an affordable school with a laid back, animal friendly environment then Fresno State is the place for you.

    Tips for prospective students

If you really want to succeed use the resources that are available. For example, Fresno State has an amazing library and data basis for students. There is a vast amount of information that is available at all hours if researching online, which I can say personally comes in handy.

    Bang for the buck

Of course with tuition increasing it can be a downer, however, in comparison to other CSU campuses Fresno State is definitely more affordable than others.

    Am enjoying being here

I do enjoy attending Fresno State. It is a wonderful environment and the experience has been pleasant so far and I will be attending for another year.

    Am learning a lot

I am definitely learning a lot at this university. For my major in particular, pre-veterinary science, there are many hands-on learning opportunities available to further my knowledge in the subject. The instructors within the animal science department are well educated and experience and are willing to help as much as possible.

Great for these types of students

CSU Fresno is a great university for students who can endure a bit of heat, want to get involved on campus, and may need some extra help in class. It's also a great school for students interested in majoring in business. The Craig School of Business at CSU Fresno is internationally accredited, has an excellent study abroad program, and offers many scholarships to it's students.

    Tips for prospective students

Get your application in as early as possible. I turned in my application the day that the application opened and I got my acceptance letter two weeks later. Sometimes the only difference between a person that was accepted and someone who was not is the date they turned their application in. Another tip is to stay focused Freshman and get help if needed. There is free tutoring on campus and professors have office hours for students to come in and get help. My last tip for prospective students research student organizations and find one to join. It looks great on resumes and its fun!

    Bang for the buck

Due to budget cuts tuition has been increasing and class time has been decreasing. Teachers are getting more and more furlough days. Luckily, the increase in cost of attendance and decreased class time has not effected the quality of education offered at CSU Fresno. It definitely gets frustrating though when I'm forced to stand in a long line at the financial aid office or that the counselors office. The cuts have made CSU Fresno have to cut down the staff in these offices. The student health center, which offers free health services to students, has also had to cut back on it's hours. Basically, students are forced to pay more to get less.

    Am enjoying being here

I love going to CSU Fresno. I have a lot of Bulldog pride! We have an awesome women's basketball team and students get in to all of their games free. As a matter of fact the only sports team that students have to pay to watch is football. Football tickets are unfortunately $15 for students. There are also plenty of clubs that students can join. There's an agriculture club that goes to Ireland during the summer and a snowboarding club that goes snowboarding often. They have clubs to suit all interests. There's many ways for students to get involved and show school spirit.

    Am learning a lot

You get out of your education what you put in. I have learned a great deal since I started attending CSU Fresno as a first time freshman in 2009. There is free tutoring in the learning center located on the bottom floor of the library and professors also offer plenty of assistance to struggling students. The textbooks are informative and can usually be rented at an affordable price in the library. Overall, CSU Fresno offers a great learning environment. I'm definitely learning a lot.

    What to do for fun

For fun, there's an actual bowling place in the Student pavilion and there's also billiards in the same area. There's also a gym area built in the recreation center right next to the big Save Mart Center.

    Food and Dining

There is a lot of variety offered here at Fresno State. There is a few fast food restaurants such as Panda Express, Chik-fil-A, Subways, Java, The Vintage restaurant, Starbucks, The Pub, and Taco Bell. And just right across the street is about 10 other eating places. The variety is great.

    Dorm Life

I haven't lived there myself, but hearing from my peers, I hear it's a nice little room that you get to share with other students. There's different dorms that are offered for your preferences.

    Academic Rigor

The courses taken at Fresno state varies from instructor to instructor. Their will never be perfect instructor and although some of them are over extraordinary instructors some are medial. Every course is passable, it's just up to the individual. However, the courses that are offered at Fresno State is very good and if you put on the right attitude for your academic life you'll will definitely succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Go into college knowing what you want instead of just going day to day taking random classes. Also, Fresno State is known to have inputted more than a million hours of community service by their students, which is superb. If you don't know what you want to do, volunteering is the greatest advantage you could ever take.

    In three sentences

Fresno State is a good size college to attend if you want something that's not too big nor too small. The people there are friendly and willing to help you out. Overall, it's a great school filled with great people.

    Campus Safety

Campus Safety is very important to Fresno State. Along the pathways there are call buttons that students push if they are in danger and the campus police will arrive at that destination in a matter of minutes. They also will drive you to your car if you have a late class. The rate I will give is a 10

    Greek Life

Greek Life is a great way to build a brotherhood or sisterhood with those on campu who are part of it. It i also a great way to network with the alumni for hopes of getting a job.

    Clubs and Activities

During the third week of school clubs and fraternities open up their booths in front of the USU and students are able to get more information on how to join. Fresno State has a great number of clubs and activities for everyone on campus to be a part of. The rate I will give is a 9.

Great for these types of students

If you are involved in community service, there are clubs even a class that would be great for these types of students. The class is I believe worth one or two units and it is part of scholarship where students can earn $1,500 after 40 hours of volunteering.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

During Halloween I noticed that the Hispanic club celebrated Dias de los Muertos which means Day of the Dead, in front of the library.

    What to do for fun

Fresno State hosts a lot of events that everyone can do for fun. For example USU Productions hosts a movie night outside in the softball field for students to watch movies that have recently came out. Sporting event are also fun.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining at Fresno State is always available for students with great prices. Because it is on campus it is flexible for students to eat in between classes and very conveinant. The rate i will give for food and dining is a 7.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is very fun. You get to meet a lot of students from different backgrounds and build up on long term friendships. The rate I will give for dorm life is a 10

    Academic Rigor

Academics here are not hard to keep up with as long as you pay attention in class, take good notes, attend office hours and read your textbook. It may be a hard adjustment for some students, but there is a lot of help on campus such as tutoring and the writing center. The rate I will give is a 10.

    Tips for prospective students

It is important to get to know your teachers by going to their office hours. Its a great way for you to get to know them and vice versa. They are there to help so take advantage of that.

    In three sentences

Fresno State is a fun school with a strong belief in their students. The diverity on the campus is a great way to meet new people with different backgrounds. This i a very good school and I like my decision on coming here.

With constant tuition increases and decreased student resources the amount you pay and what you get is not equivalent. Make sure to take advantage of all the resources that are available, register for classes early, and talk with adviser's often.

    Did enjoy being here

The students and community is great to be around. Campus events are always available and getting involved will help your experience at this school.

    Did learn a lot

With the right professors you will be able to learn a lot. Do not allow the professors tell you you are wasting your time by asking for help.

Great for these types of students

Students who enjoy city life, but also like that small-town feel. Also, Students with Conservative sympathies might fare better at Fresno and Fresno State then most other college towns.

    Tips for prospective students

Sign Up on time, and look for scholarships to help offset costs.

    Bang for the buck

As CSU tuition rises, State Universities such as Fresno State become more expensive. as of 2011,the prices for next fall including tuition, housing, books and other costs are estimated at 22,000 total. However, as prices for schooling goes, its a great bargain and a great investment. If you like Fresno and places like it, then this will be a good investment for you.

    Will enjoy being here

Although I am from Salinas, I have spent a lot of time in Fresno and at Fresno State. I love Fresno itself; you get the big city with the small-town feel. I also love the campus; its pretty clean for a college, and it's easy to find your way around campus.

    Will learn a lot

I have several friends attending this school, and they all say that they are learning a lot...

Great for these types of students

If you like the city but are a little nervous about being in a huge town. Fresno is the in between. Fresno is mostly centered around Ag, its very important to people here in the central valley, but there is still a lot to do. There's the Clovis rodeo and Big Fresno fair which are always super fun but there's also great shopping and entertainment that you can't get in a small town!

    Tips for prospective students

Dorms aren't the best. I suggest living in Palazzo, it's very safe and right next to campus. Take GE classes first, Drama 62, Communications 8, are the way to go. Get your GPA up and keep it there. Use your credit/no credit option for later in your career for the super hard classes.

    Bang for the buck

Unfortunately tuition has gone up a lot :( It's hard to say it's worth it when I'm already in debt at the age of 18 but it is a great school

    Am enjoying being here

It's right down the street from great shopping! There's always a lot to do you can go to the zoo, shop, lots of places to eat, and a water park! On campus there is a bowling ally, billards, and an arcade. We have a Subway, Panda Express, Chick-Fil-A, and Taco Bell. There's a brand new gym that's very nice, the gym offers many group excersise classes (Zumba is my favorite) and they change each semester.

    Am learning a lot

I love all of my classes and the professors are great! They are willing to help you with any problem you may have. It's nice to know they are really there for you, remember, that's their job! Even the GE classes are great, I really am learning a lot more than I expected.

Great for these types of students

Business program I hear is top notch. If you like to be equidistant from LA and SF, Fresno is the happy medium.

    Tips for prospective students

Get your parking pass early and befriend your advisor for your major. Always check your progress for the track to graduating since you can hear different things from different people but you are the one responsible for your graduating.

    Bang for the buck

Even though tuition is rising, the cost for Fresno State is still much more affordable than other places and the living expenses aren't as demanding either.

    Am enjoying being here

Parking is annoying, that is enough to bring down the enjoyment a bit. I would recommend getting involved in at least one club or organization (doesn't have to be a fraternity or sorority) so that your more involved and your not just going to class and leaving.

    Am learning a lot

Make the most out of it. If you simply take the easiest classes your defeating the purpose of going to a college to get an education. Most of the classes I've taken are serious and at least provide the tools to learn even if the professor isn't the best at connecting with you.

Great for these types of students

School is great for Ag, Engineering and Education. For Masters, I say the MFT program is pretty awesome!

    Tips for prospective students

Really take the time to decide what you want to do. You do not want to rush through college and realize that the degree you received is something you are not passionate about. Also take the time to know peers and professors. It really helps you in the long run; study groups, letters of rec et.

    Bang for the buck

I feel that the undergrad isn't as much bang for the buck, but the master program that I am enrolled in is definitely worth it! They professors are very helpful and really take the time to get to know their students. I honestly thought it be scarier but it is just the opposite.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus! My peers make it very comfortable to take risks in the classroom and I enjoy my job on campus. It has opened many opportunities for me.

    Am learning a lot

There are multiple subjects offered at this campus and with the courses I have taken, I feel that I have learned a great deal from each. Many of the professors I have taken are very engaging and willing to help their students learn more.

Great for these types of students

Fresno State is really great for any type of students. Fresno State is multicultural which makes it interesting to meet new people.

    What to do for fun

There are so many things to do around Fresno State. You could choose and join a club or sport and have fun. There is also the Savemart Center where many different concerts take place. Or you could just hang out with your friends and go to the mall or to the movies. If you don't have a car you could always take the bus which is always convenient.

    Food and Dining

Since i don't live in the dorms i don't eat in the cafeteria but i have had their food in the past and it is not the best but it isn't horrible. I would say it is OK.

    Dorm Life

I personally don't live in a dorm because it is cheaper to rent an apartment. I would recommend living in an apartment because it is cheaper and you could room with friends. It is a great experience because you learn how to pay your bills and you get to cook your meals.

    Academic Rigor

The challenges you might find is using your time wisely. There are so many things to do at Fresno State that you might lose focus in your studies.

    Tips for prospective students

If you don't like hot weather then Fresno State might not be a really good choice. If you do like hot weather then just make sure to have plenty of sunscreen to wear. Also it would be a good idea to buy a bike or scooter to get to class faster so you won't have to walk in the hot weather all day.

    In three sentences

Fresno State has been an awesome experience so far. It is great because you meet new interesting people everyday. Not only the students there but the teachers can be very interesting as well.

if there is any kind of safety alert, the campus police will send out an email to all students and teachers telling them of any incident. there are emergency lights and call boxes in the parking lots if there is a problem. however, if you have a night class, always have someone to walk with you to your car or dorm room after class. the campus has very dark or poorly-lit areas at night.

    Bang for the buck

fresno state has managed to keep tuition prices relatively low. however, with all the budget cuts, prices are getting a bit higher. it still is one of the more preferable schools for anyone who is money-conscious.

    Food and Dining

there are a lot of dining options on the campus itself. the bucket is my main go-to restaurant for a relatively cheap meal that tastes yummy. the dining right off-campus is awesome, too. doghouse grill serves a mean trip-tip sandwich!

    Academic Rigor

this all really depends on which courses you decide to take. any class having to do with science and mathematics will challenge you. even some of the music classes will seem a bit difficult. these courses are excellent, though, for anyone who likes to be pushed to be just that much better.

    Tips for prospective students

while the campus is not as liberal as other universities such as uc berkeley, it can come as a bit of a culture shock. keep an open mind coming into the school, and your experience will much more enjoyable.

    In three sentences

    Campus Safety

The campus is relatively safe but the surrounding areas might not be as safe. One of the neighborhoods close by isn't exactly the best. I wouldn't walk around alone at night and without some pepper spray just to be sure.

    Greek Life

Greek life at Fresno State is really big. It seems as though everyone is in a Fraternity or Sorority. It's really fun too, they always throw parties that anyone can attend.

Great for these types of students

This campus is great for anyone really. There will always be something to do for anyone.

    Bang for the buck

I feel you get plenty of the college life here in Fresno for little.

    What to do for fun

If you're over 21 there are plenty of fun bars arond. There are two water parks in Fresno for the summer. Concerts are always playing around town somewhere or plays. Plus you;re not too far from Los Angeles and San Francisco where a quick road trip can take you to see amazing sites.

    Food and Dining

Food and dining in Fresno is EXCELENT. You have Dog House Grill right next to the school which has the best pulled pork sandwiches you can buy. Plus the best sushi I have ever tasted just three miles west of the school. There's also little cafe's across the street with really good tea, and Starbucks on every corner.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life isn't as exciting as the Greek life but that should be obvious. Living off campus would be the best choice. You have a lot more freedom and there are plenty of apartments close by.

    Academic Rigor

The curriculum isn't that hard mostly. It depends on your major. But hard work and dedication will get you where you need to go regardless. Just pay attention and go to class is what will make homework and studying a lot easier.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved somehow. Join a club or Greek life. Making friends and connections never hurt anyone. And be nice to admissions and records, you never know where a smile can get you.

They offer dining for students living on campus but also many other choices such as Panda, Subway, and Taco Bell. There are tables inside and outside.

    Academic Rigor

They have a wonderful academic program espcially in general education. Each class will challenge you in ways you didn't think possible.

    What to do for fun

Greek Life is always fun. There are parties and fun things to do outside of school. On campus, DJs hired, come to play music on certain days of the week. Students walking pass get to join clubs and interact with others. There are opportunities to do a little karaoke which is fun. Tons of games! Lastly, we get to watch members from Frats and Sororities perform stepping dances.

    Food and Dining

The Residence Dining Hall (RDH), is great. The food sometimes isn't all that great, but it's still useful. Students who stay in the dorms get to get in for free and are allowed to have guests for only 3 times.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life isn't all that great. Rooms offered are small and compacted and you must share with 3 other people.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are tough because of teachers. Some teachers don't go by the books. They rather base their tests on what they know instead of actually what we need to know from the books. Some teachers are laid back and go by the book instead of teaching students what THEY think is right and wrong about the subject.

    In three sentences

Fresno State is a cool school filled with diverse individuals. The programs offered, seek to fulfill students' wishes and desires.

    What to do for fun

I really enjoyed attending the sports events. Football games are a BLAST when you go with all your friends. The crowd gets really into it. The Boise game was one to remember. The tailgates before are a lot of fun too! Theres lazer tag in town, a place called Boomers where you can go mini golfing and go-kart racing. I found being on campus the most fun though because I was with all my friends. You don't need extraordinary attractions when you're with your best friends.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall was awesome at first! I was excited about the all you can eat aspect. The breakfast omelets were to die for, and Thursday pizza was exceptional. However, they started making meals that NO ONE wanted. They would repeat a lot of things and it got old fast. I stopped wanting to go around February. Some days were better than others.

    Dorm Life

I lived in the dorms my freshman year and I really enjoyed it. It took two tries but once i found a roommate that I adored, the dorms were so much fun! Its a great atmosphere and I became so close to all the other girls. Your neighbors become your family and you help each other through everything. I would definitely recommend the dorms, but don't expect them to be crystal clean! They weren't atrocious but they definitely weren't 5 star status. Also, I would recommend leaving the beds in bunks, it gives you and your roommate personal space.

    Academic Rigor

None of my classes have been too much for me to handle, but they definitely weren't a walk in the park. Some took more studying hours than others but overall, doable. I've never been strong in math but studying helped me earn a B in my DS71 class, a business math class, which I was really proud of. I think that the teachers assign enough to make us work for the grades, but not more than we can handle.

    Tips for prospective students

Study as much as you can! Parties and friends are awesome and a lot of fun but if your grades aren't up to par, you won't have much to celebrate. Meeting new friends can be the best thing to happen to you but don't forget about your old ones too! Keep in touch with your family and friends from back home as well. One last tip; exercise! The freshman 15 can sneak up on you, plus, exercising can help you focus when you're studying. Balancing studying, friends, and exercise is a struggle but so worth it in the end. Those 4 years will fly by so enjoy them!

    In three sentences

I have had great experiences and enjoyed all of my classes. The atmosphere and the people are incredible, making my first year at Fresno State unforgettable. I would recommend my school to everyone; go Bulldogs!

    Campus Safety

I would say that the campus is very safe. There are these carts that drive around and when you don't feel safe, you can always take those to the place that you want to go. There are also these poles that are similar to a telephone and if you have an emergency then you can press those and the police would be there at your service.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many different variety of clubs and activity that you can join on campus and you just have to pick the one that you want to join. They do about almost everything in a club and it would also make you meet new friends. Those people in your club would be able to help you with work in your classes when you need help.

    What to do for fun

There is a place called the University Student Union and that's where you and your friends or anyone can hang out at. It's a place where you can play pool, bowling, chess, xbox and many other things to entertain you. If you don't want to spend money then you can always go to the gym; you get to exercise, have fun, and join in some clubs for free.

    Food and Dining

The food on campus are great. They are food where you could get from fast food stores too, therefore it's food that you would be familiar with. It's not only fast food but they are also healthy and tasty too.

    Dorm Life

I don't actually live in a dorm, but I live in an apartment. From what I heard from some of my classmates about dorm is that it's really not that bad and you get to make friends while living in dorms. It's only sometimes that you might get to stay with someone who may be the complete opposite from you but other than that, you just have to make it work or request a new roommate.

    Academic Rigor

Professors grade harder than teachers in high school so you have to stay focus. Some professors would want you to think of more than what your class is learning, so it would be helpful if you would go out sometimes and have a broader mind on what the real world is about. You can actually put what you learn in class and connect it with the real world or the other way around.

    Tips for prospective students

College is actually a bit harder than high school and work seems to be harder and due earlier than you expect them to be. Therefore, you have to be committed in what you are doing so you can do fine in college. Professors expect more from their students therefore you have to put in your best on your work.

    In three sentences

I would rate California State University of Fresno 5 stars because it's really great and I have a lot of experiences since my first year there. The professors are really helpful when you need them and the advisers are always there to help you pick the right classes and the classes you need. The campus is big but when you get use to it, it's actually very easy to find the place you need to go.

The campus is a very safe environment, complete with its own police department. There is a Safety Trail that has every few yards an emergency button that will directly contact you to the local police dispatch station. They also offer women's self defense classes for the young ladies and their other woman relatives with training on a real person.

    Bang for the buck

The cost of tuition is a little high for the economic status of the area the college is located, but it is still less than the UC's.

    What to do for fun

There is a bowling alley in the basement of the Student Union. They host movies in the park as well. The student union sells discounted movie tickets to a theater in town as well as to Six Flags and Universal Studios. There is the Student Recreation Center too if you want to do a quick workout between classes.

    What to do for fun

There is a lot to do for fun. First, you can go to the Student Union and can go bowling, to the salon, shop in the bookstore, go to the recreational room, hang out with friends, and grab a bite to eat. All in the Student Union. On campus, you can join multiple sports, elective courses, clubs, and fraternity's. Outside of school, Fresno offers so much more. Just down the street is the main mall in Fresno. There are also multiple theaters and actually on the FSU campus is the Save Mart Center. The SMC has been a venue for many concerts and sporting events. You never know who may show up at the SMC.

    Food and Dining

There are some restaurants on the Fresno State campus which are really convenient if you have long breaks. There are also restaurants all around the campus.

    Dorm Life

I'm actually living in an apartment which is just down the street from the campus. The apartments are called Campus Edge on Bulldog Lane. They're really nice and good if you have pets, enjoy privacy, and want the experience of being on your own. I wouldn't say that they're 'student apartments' because they're more like family style apartments but mainly students live here. Overall, I love my new place!

    Academic Rigor

As of now, the academics are similar to that of high school. You are expected to show up to class, do your homework and study for quizzes and exams. If you ever need help with academics, you can always find tutoring throughout the campus.

    Tips for prospective students

If you decide to come to Fresno State, don't be hesitant or nervous about it. You'll really enjoy the entire school. After the first week or maybe even the first few days, you won't regret coming to CSU Fresno. Another thing to keep in mind is that there is so much activities, clubs, fraternity's to get involved in, if that's your thing.

Campus safety is highly enforced and Fresno State does a very good job on enforcing safety for the student. If there is any problems the campus safety will notify each student on what goes on inside and around the school. These foods include: cereal, salad bar, chicken nuggets/strips, breads, frozen yogurt, cookies and other deserts, and pasta with marinara sauce.

    Dorm Life

I am a first year student, and I highly recommend dorm living at least during the first year of college. Surrounded by people of the same age group, it is the perfect opportunity to make friends and get connected in activities around the campus. The hygiene in the dorms tends to be poor at the beginning of the year; however, as the students begin to see the dorms as more of a home rather then a hotel, they begin to better tend to their surroundings and the environment is more enjoyable.

    Academic Rigor

The schooling at Fresno state is high quality, and most of the teachers genuinely want you to succeed. Occasionally a class will be difficult, but their are several on campus aids to assist you with your work including: free tutoring, free math lab, free computer lab, free writing lab, and professor office hours where you can go to the professors and obtain aid from them first hand.

    Tips for prospective students

Be extremely patient with sending in documentation. Due to the bureaucracy of college, you will need to highly repetitive with the information that you will need to disperse, and it will feel like the paper work will never end; however, keep pushing through it all, eventually the paperwork does come to an end.

I never lived in the dorms. My first year, I lived in an apartment with 5 other people who I just met the day I moved in. There was a lot of arguing and bickering, but in the end, having roommates was beneficial for my studies.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor at Fresno State all depends on the person and the classes. Everyone is different so it's difficult to rate how rigorous everything is. The most stressful time for any college student is when finals come around. Your grade depends on this final exam, so it's definitely stressful and rigorous for every student.

    Tips for prospective students

Although education is important, each student should get the full college experience: go out and socialize, meet new people, join clubs, and get involved on campus. Being involved in school activities, clubs, or organizations is a really fun way to meet new people and expand your horizons. Study hard because in the long run, it's going to help you build your education and career. School always comes first.

I believe, like in any other college, there will always be some sort of vandalism, assault etc. It is up to the student to be aware of their surroundings to keep themselves out of harms way as much as possible. Overall, most of the safety issues have been surrounding the area on campus, never anything crazy inside the campus grounds, likewise a majority of burglaries occur at night, very few happen during the day.

    Greek Life

Diverse as well. You can find a right fit for yourself even if you're not big on Greek life.

Be safe it is Fresno. Yes this place is not the safest place in the world; however, we do have campus police and they will assist you in walking home late from school or to your car. They are off duty cops, so if you think they are security guards then you might get in trouble if you trifle with them. I have never had a problem with theft or burglary but I know people who have.

Join a club or fraternities/sororities for many reasons. It helps with networking, building life-long relationships that are career beneficial. These are the people you might know for the rest of your life and are most likely to help when your in need. These days its hard to get a job and the only way you get into a job is because of your prior relationships with people. These are not party only places or paying for friends, because if you think it's that then you shouldn't join. They are places where young men and women can be together in a group and have fun, do community service, and build life-long friendships. Know that most fraternity/sorority members are the heads of companies, get better grades in school, and are ore likely to graduate college and go to graduate school.

Everyone goes all out for football games and you would be lucky to find parking that day. Also there are many special trips and discounts offered by the school, maybe join a sports club for fun. Lastly we have big names in music, comedy, etc at the Savemart center, I have been countless times to names such as Incubus, Marron 5, Kat Williams, and many more. These concerts are lots of fun and entertaining to most.

    Food and Dining

It's alright they're your normal fast food places and small places to get food such as snack places ut it's normal. We have a Chic-fil-e, tacobell, subway, panda express, and starbucks. Also two or three more places that you can get food. Bring your lunch because these do get expensive after a while. So if you want to avoid those freshmen 15's, then maybe you should just skip these places and go to the gym instead.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are good but they are dorms. You will meet lots of people but by the end of the year yo will get tired of it. The dorms look like school rooms very cold and have hard carpeting. Also if you mind sharing a room and bathroom this might not be the place you want to be.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are hard at times when you get higher in grade level but Freshman and Sophomore year will probably fly by. Know that as soon as one starts their major requirements it gets much more difficult and an overload of work is expected. You will probably seek tutoring services at least two or three times throughout your academic career here.

    Tips for prospective students

Know that is campus is large and we do have one of the best libraries that I know will suffice any students ability to study. Spending most of my time at school and in the library, know that there is a Starbucks in our library to keep us caffeinated. The teachers are great, and this school is a great environment for meeting people. Know that it is a big agriculture school so it might smell like cows in the morning, but it's a great school with a great foundation for learning.

    In three sentences

It's a great school that offers many things that big universities or other CSU's do not. It has a great library, atmosphere and is cheapest out of CSU tuition costs. Yet is the one of the oldest CSU in California making this school not only have good multicultural area but rich with history.

My friends and I like to go out and explore Fresno on the weekends, such as go line dancing, or go ride quads. We have movie nights and game nights that always create a good time!

    Food and Dining

Eating at the dining hall everyday gets a little old. The food is not always the best for how much we pay for. I do enjoy the salad bar though that would be my favorite thing!

    Dorm Life

In my opinion the dorm life is an okay situation, once anyone gets sick everyone gets sick and that is not fun. Although I do enjoy the easy capability to everyone and you meet people really easily and create new friendships. I can not wait to move out of the dorms though next year!

    Academic Rigor

I think all the professors at Fresno State are great, and they are really wanting to help the students succeed in all that they do. It is just very crucial that you go to every class!

    Tips for prospective students

I would advise anyone intending to go to Fresno State, just make sure you apply for scholarships and get student loans if you need them. I encourage you to get the best grades possible and make sure you are on time with everything you need for school such as classes and deadlines for specific things. Also have fun you are in college but make sure you go to every class and get all your work done thoroughly!

Great for these types of students

Fresno State is perfect for students who want a smaller campus that still feels like a real university, enjoy having different areas on campus that each have a different atmosphere, or want to be connected to the city with restaurants and retail stores just across the street. It's also a great campus if you have an off-campus job or are looking for one, as the companies around campus are very open to hiring college students.

    Bang for the buck

The majority of classes are under 40 students, and depending on your major, they can be under 20. Most professors have a Ph.D. and love their job and love meeting with students to discuss material, help with internships/career options, and just enjoy what they do. There's also a brand new 5-story library (underground basement and four above-ground levels) with a huge collection, to-of-the-line technology, and all different types of areas depending on how you like to study.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of frat parties to go to on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and a club not too far from campus that's 18+. On-campus, clubs have different events, and during the Fall, there are outdoor movies every week.

    Food and Dining

A lot of healthier options, as well as some chain restaurants. The bookstore is a bit overpriced, but the on-campus restaurant The Bucket is pretty decently priced and has really great food. Off-campus, there is a wide variety of different types of food, and the city-favorite Dog House Grill.

    Dorm Life

I don't live in the dorms, but I've heard really positive things from friends who do. There's a lot of activities for residents, and there's a good sense of community. You can also choose what kind of dorm you want to live in--quiet, loud, etc.

    Academic Rigor

My high school AP classes were more difficult than the majority of the classes I've taken at Fresno State, with the exception of a few upper-division courses.

    Tips for prospective students

There aren't a lot choices for students majoring in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, but you have a better opportunity to meet with develop relationships with professors. If you're in the Physical/Chemical Sciences, Agriculture, or Business, this is a perfect place.

    In three sentences

My favorite location on campus is the business building also known as the peter's building. This is the tallest building on campus and when you go to the very top you can oversee the entire campus and part of the city of Fresno. It is a beautiful view and I love to go up there.

    Bang for the buck

This does not have to do with the campus itself but I fell that the students and faculty are very friendly. In general all the people I met are nice and also diverse. You get to meet some great people from all over the world.

    What to do for fun

There is a bowling alley and billiard available on campus. There is a large gym with everything ranging from treadmills to zumba classes. The save mart center on campus constantly has shows and concerts with various artists.

    Food and Dining

I ate at the cafeteria once and it was pretty good and had a lot of variety. Besides that there are many food places on campus including a restaurant, taco bell, subway, panda express and chickfila. Besides that the campus has a very good location with many food places around it.

    Dorm Life

I personally did not live in the dorms because it was too costly for me, I did not want to share a room with someone I did not know and i prefer to cook home made meals than eat at the cafeteria. The dorms are nicely renovated though, there are suits that are larger and everyone gets their own room, and they are equipped with a pool a recreational room and a little kitchen. My friends lived in the dorms and some loved it, others had horrible experiences. So I guess you will not know if the dorms or not until you live there yourself.

    Academic Rigor

The students I have met are very engaged in their studies and focused on their future careers. Teachers push and challenge their students so they can accomplish their goals. Overall I think you can easily achieve your academic goals at this school.

    Tips for prospective students

Faculty and resources provided by Fresno State University Fresno are there to help students but students cannot be helped unless they make it possible. What I mean by this is that you need to go to tutoring or study groups and you need to approach teachers or advisors yourself so that they can help you. I think on average most students who do not use resources provided by the school do worse than those who do.

    In three sentences

Fresno State is a great school, with good faculty. Teachers are there for the students and really care to get them further in their educations (at least most). The campus itself is quite large and has nice scenery, as well as a good location close to buses, highways, restaurants, shopping and entertainment.

    Clubs and Activities

I am in a number of clubs and activities. I am in the NSCS, which is an honor society. I was in the Magkaisa Filipino Club, but that took too much time out of my studies, so I left. The group was also very clique-y.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Vintage days in which is like a large flea market carnival in the spring semesters. Upon occasion, you will see the engineering students right around in their contraptions that they've built, it is quite fun watching them in the open grass area overlooked by the library.

    Bang for the buck

Overprices, but colleges aren't nowadays. Right?

    What to do for fun

There is a bowling alley on campus, planetarium, student union. Diverse opportunities are sprawled over campus, just find the right one.

    Food and Dining

I have not been the dining hall, but I have attended the cafeteria. Normal food court vendors, such as, Panda Express, Subway, and Chikfila.

    Dorm Life

No opinion as I have never lived in a dorm. From when I have visited friends rooms, they seem to be have a decent living area/space.

    Academic Rigor

They do demand work definitely, as many classes are asked of you. Some classes are easy, mainly general education classes but that pattern is seen among universities. Science and math classes, in my opinion, are the hardest.

    Tips for prospective students

Have a clear indication of what you might enjoy as a future career; that way as soon as you step foot onto campus you will develop a cohort of other students aimed at the same goal.

    In three sentences

Overall, decent college with a lot of opportunities given to students who are open and looking for them. I cannot speak for all colleges and departments, but the College of Science & Math have several key professors who are willing to help you get where you want. In all, I would say helpful staff and open-minded students.

    Campus Safety

There is a campus police on campus and they are always going around campus so you don't have to worry about safety. They might not be always there if something does happen but on many places across campus, there is an emergency pillar where you can press the RED button for help. The teachers cares about your safety as well. Honestly, their number to call for them is rather long and wastes time, so you should put them on speed dial instead of pressing the entire seven digits and like I said, they're not always there but they're there when you least expect it.

    What to do for fun

There are lots of events going on and you just have to attend them and there are lots of people to meet to have fun. There are places to go to outside of campus if you have a long break. You just have to find your own fun. There is a bowling alley, a XBOX area, DDR, Air Hockey, arcade games and pooling tables to have fun down in the student union where those that do not have class will likely hang out while waiting to attend their next class.

    Food and Dining

You are surrounded by all kinds of places that sells food from inside and outside of the campus. There is literally food everywhere from fast food to restaurants or to a liquor store for just snacks if you don't want to spend a ton of money on food every day. There are fast food, a student store, another store that sells from smoothies to sushi for those not willing to buy food at the fast food area. They have a dining hall near the dorms where there are some good specials for money-savers.

    Dorm Life

I have no tips about dorm life for I do not live in a dorm bur some of my friends do and they quite enjoy it. There are a few that might dislike their dorm mates but you tend to get used to it and enjoy a life away from home.

    Academic Rigor

There are both easy and difficult classes but as long as you study and put effort into your academics then you'll do fine. Most classes requires a writing component and of course, English and Math are always a requirement for universities so like I said, just put effort and be organized then you'll have no problem. I gave a four because it depends on the major and course you're taking that determines the difficulty of the academics. All of the majors are difficult but not on the same level because every major has its own rate of difficulty but it depends on you if you can keep up or will you drop because of the course.

    Tips for prospective students

There is times you might want to procrastinate but it's easier to get your work done early to have more time for yourself. There are supplementary classes (Tutoring), learning centers, writing centers and all kinds of places to ask for help on your academics. A school that's not far from home for nearby prospective students and a great opportunity for others from far away for this school accepts international students as well. If you're looking for cheaper public schools then go for State Universities but there are many to choose from so my tip, is that you choose the one that greatly interest you and is in an area you really like. You can also choose the school that has your major or main career focus that gives you a reason to want to attend that school.

    In three sentences

A really good school with some awesome professors that makes your time worth it. There are always events going on and lots of opportunities to help students such as jobs, internships or for academics. This is a really good school especially dor those in or out of the city who ia not willing to leave too far from home.

I have only explored two Sororities and found that they just were not for me. I do not think I want to join one. But that should not discourage anyone else if they are curious. There are plenty to chose from!

    Clubs and Activities

I have not explored many club opportunities other than the Figure Drawing Club I joined but they do have a club specifically built toward volunteering, as well as specific sports clubs, and religious clubs. In addition there are great on-campus job opportunities if you qualify.

Great for these types of students

I think Fresno State fits those who want to get into Nursing, anyone who works out, or anyone who is fine starting/finishing at a California Sate University close to the mountains, beach, and exciting cities like LA, San Francisco, and San Diego. Honestly it is not my top choice but it is a good school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are some nice little quite and comfortably convenient areas if you get to them early before anyone else does. One annoying thing though is the free speech area's usual religious spokesman. The RUSH week is fun and the student events organization is a tradition to keep forever.

    Bang for the buck

My major adviser is great! I can tell she really wants to help me succeed and gives helpful tips on how to do so. I find the actual major advisers to be much better than the ones offered in the Joyal Administration building. However, they really must put more recycling cans around, not just garbage cans. I know the city of Fresno as a whole is typically looked heavily down upon but this school gives me some hope that I might make it out there somewhere else and hopefully cast a brighter shadow on it.

    What to do for fun

Join some sort of outgoing organization! There are Clubs, Greek Life, and Sports to stay active in. Or simply relax around the library and read, chat with friends, or use the free computers. The gym is a great place to go too, as well as the restaurants nearby.

    Food and Dining

There are plenty of yummy fast food lunch/breakfast options as well as places next door to the campus.

    Dorm Life

I do not know what dorm life is like and so far I do not know anyone else who does, but the building that holds them looks alright.

    Academic Rigor

Instructors are usually fairly helpful but they make a point in showing that you alone are the only one who is responsible for how well you do in the class, so if nobody is pushing you to do better or encouraging you than do so yourself and motivate others too.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of the tutoring services if needed and if you need to stay after school or have a break in between your schedule then use the library to get ahead on homework, study, or explore the valuable resources offered. Be studious and use your time wisely, do not procrastinate! Most professors are very kind and helpful, while some are not, do not let the bad ones distract you from what is more important. Tuition and textbooks can be a little pricey so beware of that but otherwise try to enjoy yourself and remember the big picture in why you are here. Also, the Gym is spacious, clean, friendly, and offers activities for those who want to stay active in a group with others; whether you are an athlete or just trying to keep healthy make sure to use the gym! The library is the place to be if you are a hard-working student who needs a place to concentrate on campus.

    In three sentences

The library here is by far my favorite part of the university! The professors are good but I did encounter one very uncomfortable indecent with one of them. I feel like they need to increase the safety and crime protection though.
