Categories Comments Clubs and Activities If you get involved, you'll be very involved. There are cultural nights every once in a while that you can go to.
Great for these types of students I would check Idaho State University on Yik Yak for any real life stuff. It's the main gossip/anonymous app for ISU.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The Red Pillar traditions are pretty okay, and the canon firing.
Bang for the buck About 20,000 for an entire year, meal and housing included.
What to do for fun You have to be adventurous and really look into the schools outdoor recreation opportunities, other than that, there is not much going on. And the quarterly Bingo game gets very intense.
Food and Dining Diarrhea for days
Dorm Life The normal dorm life
Academic Rigor All my classes were easy
Tips for prospective students Try to stay in Rendevous or off campus. Don't ever live in Bengal Creek. Also, always buy the cheapest meal plan, you hardly even use them.

Bang for the buck As an out of state student it is surprising that I pay as little as I do. I was offered very good aid and many scholarships were available to me.
Food and Dining The SUB has very good food options. Jamba Juice and Einstein's are the best places to eat.
Dorm Life Dorms are very clean, but very old and not as updated as they could be.
Academic Rigor It is a very easy course load.
Tips for prospective students Learn to take opportunities when they come, their aren't very many of them.

Greek Life No too great.
Clubs and Activities Too many to name. you can even make up your own school funded club.
Great for these types of students For people who like the outdoors. there are a ton of activities like slip and sliding, cold butts and beers, free t shirts
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a thing called becoming a new Bengal where you walk up to the pillars and kiss someone at midnight. They hand out chapstick and mints!
Bang for the buck One of the cheaper universities, but you get what you pay for
What to do for fun You can walk around this little cute college town and visit all the stores. You can go to the gym or lay in the nice green grass.
Food and Dining Gross, but you get used to it after awhile.!
Dorm Life Some people are immature, but where are you going to go where there aren't any immature people. The carpet is gross and needs replacing and the water fountains taste nasty!
Academic Rigor Great teachers that actually care about your grades if you don't slack
Tips for prospective students Bring a lot of quarters for laundry because it adds up!

Categories Comments Greek Life If you want Greek life in Idaho, go to U of I.
Great for these types of students LDS who didn't get into BYU.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Allegedly there's a haunted bridge somewhere in Poky.
What to do for fun There are on-campus activities pretty regularly, but I would recommend taking advantage of the close proximity to outdoor recreation.
Food and Dining There seems to be quite a few options on campus other than the cafeteria.
Dorm Life I never lived in the dorms, but stayed in them once in high school. When my mom picked me up, she said they looked the exact same as they did in the 70s. Hopefully they've changed the carpet and curtains since then. The layout of the dorm rooms is nice though, and you get privacy from your roommate.
Academic Rigor I'm a graduate student, so I may be skewed on this, but it's a tough program. The faculty is great, though. Most of them will bend over backward to help students succeed.
Tips for prospective students Check out the Bengal Online Scholarship System (BOSS). There are a lot of scholarships on there and the organization is pretty slick and easy. I recommend living in student housing as a freshman because it's on campus, they feed you and you make great friends.
In three sentences ISU is the least sought after of the public, 4-year schools in Idaho. Tuition is relatively inexpensive for in-state and out-of-state students. Pocatello is kind of ugly, but students have access to many outdoor opportunities.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Very little crime happens at this campus. There really isn't much to say other than that.
Greek Life The Greek Life has a presence. However, it's not shoved in everybody's face like at other Universities. And the houses are all pretty far off campus.
Clubs and Activities There is a club for just about anybody. There is even a Brony club and those are hard to find.
Great for these types of students People who enjoy quiet. The place is ideal for small families as well.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus A campus-wide pillow fight. It gets pretty crazy.
Bang for the buck The University is cheap. But there is so much reward! A lot to do, and hundreds of friends to make.
What to do for fun Walk through campus. There are posters and chalk everywhere that tell of the amazing stuff that goes on there. And get involved in clubs. They not only keep you busy, but they are a lot of fun. Also, the theater is free and plays current movies.
Food and Dining The meal plans are expensive. But to be fair, all colleges have expensive meal plans. The food is good but the premium nights aren't much better than what they serve anyway.
Dorm Life The dorm life is a blast. I have made friends that are going to last lifetimes and the way to do that is as simple as leaving your door open.
Academic Rigor Very good classes that both challenge and work with you. I'm going to be honest and say that I'm not sure what Academic Rigor means but I'm going to give it my best shot. The teachers all have a number one interest in helping you out. They won't ever leave you in the dust.
Tips for prospective students Live on campus your first year. It is very rewarding and the friends I made in my residence hall will last me a lifetime. Not to mention all of the events and clubs you would miss out on if you're constantly off campus.
In three sentences Idaho State University is very quiet and family-oriented. I really enjoy how quiet and friendly it is. I feel at home there.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety seems to be pretty good. I haven't ever experienced any feelings of being unsafe on campus. Just be careful where you park because campus police are like vultures attracted to illegally parked vehicles.
Greek Life Greek life could be a bit bigger here, but there are a few pretty prominent frats and sororities. They are all very friendly and helpful, so if you are interested, I encourage you to check it out.
Clubs and Activities Like I have said prior to this, there are endless clubs and activities at ISU. It is a great place to get to know people and to try new things.
Great for these types of students I think Idaho State University is great for all types of students. There are so many student activities aimed at many different demographics of students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Frazier Hall is supposedly haunted. It's and old building that's a bit creepy, so if you're into that sort of stuff, I would recommend checking it out. The pillars on Red Hill is another cool place to check out. It's a good place to take a date to see all of the city lights and have a nice, quiet place to get to know each other.
Bang for the buck Tuition is a bit excessive, I think. That's college for you, though.
What to do for fun Idaho State University has a ton of activities promoting student involvement on campus. There is always something going on. The surrounding areas are fun to explore also if you are into the outdoors.
Food and Dining There are plenty of food options, but as an amateur bodybuilder, I don't eat much of what is on campus. I like to eat clean. There are some options for clean eating, but for the most part it is quick food for not much money.
Dorm Life I live off campus, so I don't know much about dorm life. I have friends that live in the dorms and they seem to enjoy it, so it must be alright.
Academic Rigor Classes are good here. Hard work and motivation is all that it takes to succeed.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you get everything done application wise early. If you are bad at procrastinating, you better change your ways rather quick.
In three sentences Idaho State University is a pretty good school overall. The staff is helpful, there are lots of student involvement activities, and Pocatello is a comfortable town. The gym is very nice also.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck I am an out of state student and found the tuition to be reasonable. The courses are definitely worth it and the labs give me hands on experience.
What to do for fun If you know what is going on on campus than you will have no problem finding things to do. There is a movie theater on campus that is free to students, as well as the occasional football game. Also there is plenty of things to do off campus such as going to the zoo, plenty of parks and pools.
Food and Dining There are many choices for food at ISU and at several buildings. For example in the student union there is chinese food, a place for burgers, chicken tenders and fries, The Einstein Brothers, which offers bagels and coffee and Jamba Juice.
Dorm Life I live off campus. The apartments here are very nice and often have utilities included in the rent. For people who do not have a car, many of the good apartment are a little far away but there are buses that can take you directly to the school and usually come around every 15 minutes.
Academic Rigor The program I am in requires a lot of background information in biology. I spend the majority of my free time studying or doing the assessment activities that are given to us.
Tips for prospective students Apply early!
In three sentences Idaho State University is a great place for the medical field and has a variety of majors to choose from. The people that work there are very helpful and try to help you succeed. There is also many places to live on and off campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety One of the safest places in America!
Greek Life Very small, almost non-existent.
Clubs and Activities Newly renovated Rendezvous Student Center, with lots of modern classrooms and meal options. Also newly renovated Reed Gym, with state of the art workout facility and amazing indoor climbing gym!
Great for these types of students Undergrads focusing on studies, non-traditional students looking for low cost, and graduate students in biology and geology.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The campus quad bustles with activity during the school year. Red Hill offers hiking and nature within minutes of campus. Holt Arena is home to football, basketball, and other offerings.
Bang for the buck One of the lowest in-state tuitions in country. Pocatello is probably one of the best college towns in US for low cost living.
What to do for fun No better place for skiing, biking, hiking, climbing, and all that is outdoors. Consistently one of the top ten places for fishing and hunting. Small, quaint downtown area, and very pleasant, serene campus.
Food and Dining Nothing fancy, but very accessible, basic, and cost efficient options.
Dorm Life Limited dorm options, but plenty of incredibly affordable, nice off campus options.
Academic Rigor Good, solid programs in all areas. Plenty of online study options.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus to discover a hidden gem in education. Great place to begin studies as undergraduate, or focus on graduate studies. Easy gateway to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, close to Salt Lake City and lots of other amazing outdoor destinations!
In three sentences Idaho State is located in the mid-size town of Pocatello, a quiet, peaceful place to focus on studies. The campus is clean, easy to live, and commuter friendly. Great location to discover the outdoors and mountain west living!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Safety is great at ISU.. I have never feared for myself even walking alone at night. If anything did come up there are emergency alert locations all throughout the campus.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and activities available to take part of. Almost anything you can think of!
Bang for the buck I'm sure there are less expensive places to attend, but I doubt you will get as good variety or opportunities!
What to do for fun Great ISU sponsored events, movies, outdoor activities, and more! Don't leave out the camping and fishing opportunities throughout the area!
Food and Dining A pretty good diversity in the college itself, in the Rendezvous Center as well as the Student Union Center. There are also tons of places nearby the University, as well as strewn throughout the town!
Dorm Life The dorms were great when I was living in them, im sure that they have improved greatly since then as well! It is a good opportunity!
Academic Rigor The classes can be difficult and rigorous, but fun! Be sure you balance your schedule well and don't overload yourself!
Tips for prospective students I would suggest studying hard and put the studying before anything else, but be sure to have fun. There are a lot of opportunities to socialize and make lifelong connections, don't pass it up! Take advantage of all the opportunities available!
In three sentences A great University for this area, I was pleasantly surprised. It offers a diverse range of classes that are very enjoyable. There are also great and interesting professors here at ISU.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Public safety is everywhere all of the time.
Bang for the buck The teachers are absolutely worth it, but tuition is extremely high and they charge you for anything that they can.
What to do for fun There are lots of clubs and activities to attend, they have bowling, pool, a gym, and theater performances.
Food and Dining They have a great selection of food in all of the different places on campus!
Dorm Life I don't personally live in dorms, but I hear it's great if you can afford it.
Academic Rigor The teachers are all really awesome, and the information taught is very useful in your field.
Tips for prospective students I would keep on ISU for their paperwork because sometimes it gets lost, and making friends there is a good first step.
In three sentences They are a school that has a great staff. The staff is absolutely friendly and helpful, but the school leaders seem very money-oriented. The focus on money makes a somewhat unpleasant experience for the students and staff.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Five stars for the fifth safest campus in the nation! Way to go ISU!
Clubs and Activities ISU offers over 150 clubs and has an activities calendar that helps you know what's going on when and where you can get in on the fun!
Great for these types of students ISU welcomes all students! International, local, returning, and more!
Bang for the buck ISU was rated 15 in the lowest tuition cost with the highest starting salaries!
What to do for fun Student activities, clubs, concerts, game rooms, night life and more! There is always something fun to do at ISU!
Food and Dining Three locations on campus offer variety and a great way to socialize.
Dorm Life Living on campus is one monumental step when going to college. Here at ISU living on campus is a great experience that a student never forgets or regrets!

Categories Comments Campus Safety ISU is a very safe campus. Everything is well lit and there is a low crime rate in the surrounding areas. I have never felt uncomfortable on campus.
Clubs and Activities Numbering in over 160, we have a club for just about anything
Great for these types of students ISU is great for all kinds of students. It's wide variety of students allows atmospheres for anyone to have a great time.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus ISU has many traditions both endorsed by the school such as the homecoming parade and bonfire, March through the Arch, powderpuff football, and true bengal, and student lead traditions such as taming the bengal (where students mount the bengal statue naked).
Bang for the buck ISU is a great bang for the buck. It has very low tuition and student fees for both in and out of state students. Also the cost of living in general in Pocatello is very cheap.
What to do for fun ISU has things to offer for all kinds of people. There are tons of clubs to get involved in. The Bengal theater is free to all students and shows movies every night. We have a great outdoor recreation center which regularly offers classes and trips to go hiking, skiing, mountain biking, kayaking and many other outdoor adventures. Many of the sporting events have a tailgate before where the school puts on barbecues free to students. On the weekends there are always house parties and a decent bar scene for the size of the town.
Food and Dining The food isn't bad but its not great either. Turner offers your basic all-you-can-eat cafeteria food, but the SUB and Rendezvous offers much better food during lunch.
Dorm Life The dorms are fun and a great way to meet people. Although Turner is the oldest dorm, it is the ideal to get to meet people. On every floor there is huge common rooms and the dining hall is located just downstairs. Rendezvous is very nice with suite style living (minus a full kitchen) and is best for people who need privacy.
Academic Rigor ISU has great academics including an excellent pharmacy and nursing program. If your interested in anything in healthcare it is the BEST place to go in Idaho.
In three sentences ISU, like any college, is what you make of it. If you get involved you will have the time of your life. Its a great school with good academics and tons of ways to stay involved.

Categories Comments What to do for fun I'll get back to you on that one....
Food and Dining Turner is... Turner.. I tried to generally avoid it but that's just me. As far as other places to eat on campus go, they have good food, but it is all fairly expensive and it's a bit more difficult to find foods that are actually healthy.
Dorm Life I lived in the Residence Halls my first year, and absolutely loved it. The convenience, the staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful, and it is much easier to be involved and enjoy your overall experience.
Academic Rigor It really depends on the class and the Instructor. A lot of time is required for studying and it definitely helps to reach out to professors for additional help.
Tips for prospective students The campus can seem a bit boring if you don't make an effort to get involved. Join clubs, intramurals, and attend the numerous events the campus puts on to get the most out of your experience.
In three sentences At Idaho State University, your education is all in your hands. The campus is diverse, interesting, although it may take a little effort to entertain yourself. The cheap cost of the University made it an excellent choice.

Categories Comments What to do for fun The games center is small, but has pool ping pong and bowling to offer. It's hard to get in and climb the rock climbing wall they have, but access to the gym is pretty easy. They don't have many activities that appeal to me otherwise.
Food and Dining Good fast food restaurants close by that are affordable, but good at the same time. The food on campus is really expensive.
Dorm Life I live of campus.
Academic Rigor So-so. It can be fairly difficult to understand what is expected of you by professors and the university as a whole. It also seems that some classes are extremely difficult because they are trying to pack two semesters or more into one.
Tips for prospective students Don't come to ISU unless you want to become a mechanic or a cosmetologist.
In three sentences Difficult to get a degree in four years, because several required classes are only offered one semester per school year. Poor priorities, for example ISU paid for their dance teams' championship rings from tuition funds instead of making them fund-raise. Their policy on tenure is poor, tenured professors are hard to get rid of even if their teaching methods are obsolete and help no one.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is probably one of the safest because first off it is in Idaho where there is little crime and there is campus security that patrol campus. Finally, there are little blue call centers located around campus (I call them rape phones).

What to do for fun Watch movies in the bangle theater for FREE if you are a student and very cheep for friends and family who are not.
Food and Dining I personally don't like the meal plan they make you get if you live on campus, but other then the turner meal plan the other places to eat are fantastic.
Dorm Life The ISU dorms are great but i would recommend living off campus for the experience of being on your own.
Academic Rigor Academics can be hard but the teachers will help you if you ask. Every class is possible to get a good grade is you study and work hard.
Tips for prospective students Study for tests in college because they are very different from high school tests. Take a tour of the ISU campus to make sure it is right for you. Take the time to sit in on some classes to get a feel for the ISU school life. Stay the night in one of the dorms on campus to get a feel for college life.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are Public Safety officers everywhere!
Greek Life We only have one or two sororities I believe, so Greek life isn't significant here.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs to get involved in as well as group activities.
Great for these types of students Outdoor loving
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus March through the Arch occurs every year where Freshman climb to the top of Redhill and walk under our arch as initiation.
Bang for the buck It's relatively cheap compared to other universities and gives you an awesome education. The College of Pharmacy is ranked 4th in the nation. We have many other programs that are highly ranked nationwide as well.
What to do for fun Idaho State is very outdoor activity-friendly. During the warm months you can hike trails, camp, rock climb, play disk golf, etc. In the winter there is skiing/snowboarding, snowshoeing, sledding, ice skating, etc.
Food and Dining The Cafe and C Store have great options. Turner is so-so, but has many choices.
Dorm Life The dorms are nice, the food is decent, and you will meet tons of new people.
Academic Rigor Depending on your major, classes will be challenging but helpful. They will prepare you for the real world.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety is always around and does their best to help out with any problems and disturbances. I have respect for them and they are always kind and helpful. Whether it is car troubles, a stranger or just something someone doesn't like, they will do their best to help out.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs on campus but two that stuck out to me were the anime and fencing clubs which are both great. For activities, there are always things to do like giant water slides, games on ice or including ice, and games inside that are really creative and different.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are two unusual locations that always stick out to me. The first one is the pillars located on top of the mountain. They are a nice quiet place to go and relax and have some quiet time. Another is a little garden kind of hidden away by Rendezvous. Both of the places are quiet and relaxing and there is never anyone there.
Bang for the buck What it all gets down to is the education and degrees. If the student puts the time in, they can learn a lot and earn a degree in a reasonable amount of time. It isn't very expensive for tuition compared to other places and you get an excellent degree out of it.
What to do for fun There are so many things to do! First of all, there is the movie theater that is free to students that shows 3 movies each week. The Student Union Building also has many things, including: arcade, bowling alley, pool tables, ping pong and a book store. Each hall has pianos and game tables like pool, air hockey and ping pong. Each dorm hall also has a television room with a big screen where students can hang out.
Food and Dining I love all the food on campus! Turner has amazing food and beverages along with helpful service and a nice atmosphere. Rendezvous also has many places to catch a bite to eat located within. The convenience store and grill happen to be my two favorite places in Rendezvous.
Dorm Life Dorm life is the best life. I have absolutely no problem with living on campus. I am closer to the activities and dining halls, and most importantly, the classes. Being located by classes means that I don't have to wake up too early or drive in bad weather to attend my classes. It might be more expensive to live on campus but I save on gas and time. There are ups and downs (like all the rules and regulations) but it is fine in the end.
Academic Rigor The difficulty of Idaho State University is exactly what is expected. It is all dependent on the student and their match with a course and their motivation. There are obviously some classes that are not simple but if the student puts the time and effort in, they should pass with minimal stress.
Tips for prospective students The professors are willing to take time to help each individual student with any questions or problems. The aides for the professors are always available, willing to help and know what they are doing as well. Also, if there are any issues with reaching deadlines due to any problems, there is always some leniency and willingness to work around the problems.
In three sentences Idaho State University has an amazing student-driven community! It seems as if everyone takes an interest in each others lives, including professors and resident assistants. And if that isn't enough, there are some dorms located on campus that are small enough that everyone who is a resident feels like part of a family.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Whenever I am on campus I feel very safe. The only exception would be when crossing different cross walks. Some students drive crazy so it is best to look three times before crossing!
What to do for fun Clubs are one of the best ways to find out about fun activities! There are also dance classes that are very enjoyable.
Food and Dining The food is super yummy on campus, but it is expensive. If a student needs a bite to eat they will be able to find something pretty easily.
Dorm Life I have never lived in the dorms. I have friends who have and going and visiting them I have not been too impressed. Some apartments, like the ones in the Rendezvous building, are nice. All the other dorms seem to be run down.
Academic Rigor The teachers from my experience are very knowledgeable and seem to love teaching the topics. Classes are at times challenging, but if a student works hard enough they will succeed.
Tips for prospective students In order to do well in ISU a student has to work for it. The teachers have office hours to go visit them and talk. There is free tutoring. Students can also get into study groups. If a student stays motivated they will do great at ISU!
In three sentences Idaho State has great opportunity for students to succeed. They have free tutoring for all of the students. They also have many clubs for the students to join in order for the students to feel apart of the school.

Food and Dining Come on we are talking college food. There are decent meal plans and a lot of restaurants to go to. A lot within walking distance.
Dorm Life Turner is somewhat run down so for my room and board dollars i did rendezvous. But I am now going to move to Bengal Creek a few blocks from campus. But each place always has something going on.
Academic Rigor Depending on the major. Nursing requires so much I couldn't work but min hours. Even the Associate degree in nursing exceeds some BSA in nursing I have seen.
Tips for prospective students Realize why you are there. It isn't a party school rep but you will get a good education for the dollars.
In three sentences Look at it.You can still be far enough from home if you live in-state yet be able to visit the fam if needed.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus Safety is easy to contact if they are needed, they help with almost anything. I've seen them unlock doors for a friend who locked her keys in a room on accident. They jump start cars if neeeded, and they are very kind people.
What to do for fun There have been a lot of activities this semester for students to join in. They are so fun! Turkey bowling, Zumba, and Trunk or Treat are some of the ones I have participated in, and they made the day so much more fun!
Food and Dining Excellent staff and food at Idaho Falls ISU. I go there almost every day for lunch or for coffee.
Dorm Life There are no dorms at the Idaho Falls campus.
Academic Rigor The classes are very simple to understand, just making sure that we read the book as we go along in any class is the only part to worry about.
Tips for prospective students Always meet with both an Academic Advisor and a Financial Aid Advisor before enrolling, so you know what to expect. Don't take too hard of classes in your first semester, it is a bit overwhelming.

What to do for fun For fun i ride bikes, hike, longboard or go to the gym. ISU has one of the largest indoor rock walls at any university and its free to climb. There are also over 100 clubs to join as well as sororities and fraternities.
Food and Dining Meals are usually pretty good. There are always tons of options for food so if you don't like whats on the main line you don't have to go hungry, there's something for everyone.
Dorm Life The dorms are very home like. Everyone on your floor becomes a temporary family making it feel like a home away from your family home.
Academic Rigor Teachers are friendly here and even in huge lectures they try to get to know the students better. You can always go in during office hours for help. I have never heard of any instructer unwilling to help.

Clubs and Activities Tons of options for every interest.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus During homecoming week, freshman trek up to the pillars and kiss someone to become a 'true Bengal.'
Bang for the buck Idaho State is a good choice economically. Many students come in from out of state because in state tuition for them is more than out of state tuition for ISU.

Academic Rigor Academics in general can be tough depending on your major. Some classes like chemistry and biology are naturally hard while art classes are easier. It is not unmanageable by any means though.
Tips for prospective students Apply early and if you are accepted, be sure to come to ROAR in the spring. It is tradition to hike the Red Cliff hill to the Greek pillars beginning of every school year. There is a smiley face bandit on campus that tags the funniest things.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Depends on what you like to do. There is an outdoor adventure center on campus where you can rent things like rafts and tents if you are outdoorsy. The Student Activity Board usually has things planned during the week and weekend.
Food and Dining There are two cafeterias on campus as well as several fast food restaurants across from campus. Great way to put on that freshman 15.
Dorm Life I'm afraid I haven't personally experienced dorm life here, but the kids who live in the same dorm seem to share a comraderie.
Academic Rigor Every college has core requirement classes you have to take in addition to your major. The classes were challenging but interesting for the most part.
Tips for prospective students Live in the dorms if you are single, it can be cheaper than getting an apartment close to campus. There's always something going on, you just have to find what works for you.
In three sentences The buses that take you around campus also take you around town. With gas prices going up public transportation is a plus.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities ISU has many clubs to join, and if there is not a club you like, you can always create your own, as long as you have enough members.
Bang for the buck ISU is one of the cheaper schools for in-state or out-of-state tuition.
What to do for fun There are tons of extra-curricular activities to participate in, including donkey basketball, family game nights, free movies and concerts-on-the-quad. The Union Program Council and Student Activities Board do a great job of hosting a variety of events and always give away free food around finals time. There are also a lot of outdoor activities around Pocatello, close to the mountains, and if you like, plenty of bars to visit (although I do not recommend this for your academic career).
Food and Dining There are some great choices for food on campus. There are 2 burger places, a basic mexican food type place (tacos, burritos, nachos), a stir-fry place, an italian place, pizza, sub sandwiches, Mandalay Express, Einstein Bros. Bagels, a good variety. Of course, on campus food is usually a bit more expensive but there is also a Subway, McDonald's and Taco Bell as well as Jimmie Johns and Goody's Deli, all within walking distance.
Academic Rigor In the engineering departments there are some good quality instructors, with a lot of real life experience. They expect students to be able to apply what they learn, but are willing to help outside of class. I feel the instructors really do care about the students.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students need to be prepared to find parking early to avoid being late to classes unless you live in the dorms.
In three sentences ISU is an improving school. It is focusing a lot on research and health professions. The class sizes and teachers are generally pretty good.

Food and Dining No comment. I did not use their dining facilities.
Dorm Life No comment. I did not and will not stay at the dorms since I am married.
Academic Rigor It depends on who you get. I haven't began my first semester yet, but I did go through a college preparation program that they had. The teachers that I had were very nice, considerate, and always offered help.
Tips for prospective students Know your stuff before you go. Take the time to figure out how their online database works. Ask advice from whoever you can about career options. There is always someone to help.
In three sentences I would rate Idaho State University a 9 out of 10. I rate them a 9 because they helped me get my GED, offered me a scholarship to help me get started with college, and my teachers were very helpful. I didn't rate them a 10 because sometimes who you talk to on the phone to get help with as a new student are not so friendly.

Dorm Life Don't live in the dorms
Academic Rigor I would say it's alright. It's where it's supposed to be.
Tips for prospective students If you really want to, if you have influence there... you can attend and enjoy it otherwise it can cause you some stress levels dealing with the administration in almost all departments. It's not funny how customer service is very terrible. I don't know about the associations between fellow employees in those departments but students are not treated very well.
In three sentences Very none supportive to international students. Not smooth in the way it conducts many things; you call an office and get transferred between several calls before you reach someone that knows what they are doing. Has great programs, but ran in a very dysfunctional way

What to do for fun I love the student union building. There is so much to do there including bowling and there is also a theater. They also have a pretty cool gym nearby.
Food and Dining The food is great! Nothing beats my moms cooking but it is a great and healthy menu.
Dorm Life I have taken a tour of the dorms and I can honestly say I would love to live there. I love where they are located and how everything is so close to where the dorms are.
Academic Rigor I haven't attended yet but from what I have heard and what I have seen from my tours it looks like students are challenged and that they get the education that they need.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to take a tour because once you visit it becomes less intimidating and easier to make a decision.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never felt threatened on campus. I feel that Idaho State has worked hard to stay crime free. There are Public Safety officers who patrol campus, and plenty of places for emergency poles.
Greek Life Almost nonexistent. If Greek life is what you want during your college years, do not come to Idaho State.
Clubs and Activities I don't really have time for many clubs, so I don't have that much to say on how well they do. But I have seen many on campus!
Great for these types of students Great for non-traditional students, international students, and students who are looking for a good education for a great cost!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus True Bengal. It's a tradition once a year where students climb up a hill to the pillars overlooking the city. It happens at midnight; there are so many couples and strangers. When it turns midnight, everyone kisses someone, and then, you are a TRUE BENGAL :)
Bang for the buck I feel like I get so much out of my education, without paying too much. A lot of schools cost more per year than I will have paid in 4 years at Idaho State. That is important to me!
What to do for fun Camping, skiing, and hiking are all close by. Reed Gym provides plenty of equipment and classes for active folks. UPC plans lots of fun events like monthly BINGO and Concerts on the Quad. And the international groups put on festive nights with food, fashion shows, and raffles. There are SO many things to do on campus, you just have to look!
Food and Dining The dining on campus is alright. Pocatello is a small town but still has some great places to dine on the weekends. Jamba Juice in the SUB is my favorite!
Dorm Life My first year I lived on campus and it was a great experience. I would recommend every freshman students stay on campus their first year. It provides you with fun opportunities to go to events around campus, and it's a great way to meet people!
Academic Rigor It really depends on what program you are in. Some of the classes are easier, but I have taken many classes that required long hours at the library with about 6 cups of coffee. You get the grades you work for.
Tips for prospective students Get involved! College is so much more fun when you take a risk and try something new!! Keep up on your studies. It is SO easy to fall behind.
In three sentences Idaho State is a small, 4-year university that provides many opportunities for students. The academics are challenging and varied. There is plenty to do on and off campus to keep you busy during your free time.

Categories Comments Campus Safety ISU is a really safe campus in my experience.
What to do for fun ISU is located in Pocatello, ID. On campus there are a few hiking trails and a movie theater. There is also the Stephens Performing Arts Center which features different theater, music and dance performances throughout the year. The campus is also only a couple hours away from Yellowstone and plenty of other outdoor recreation areas. The Idaho State Museum is also only about an hour away and features many different exhibits throughout the year.
Food and Dining It's ok. I have had better food at other campuses but it isn't bad. In the spring they added some new places on campus to eat and there are restaurants just off campus that are within walking distance.
Dorm Life I have never lived in the dorms here.
Tips for prospective students For prospective students, do not be afraid to ask questions. It is the only way that a person can know if they are on the right path and going in the right direction. Do not be afraid to question the advice the counselors give you and to make sure it is really the advice you need to accomplish the goals you have set for yourself.

What to do for fun The university provides many activities for students to enjoy.
Food and Dining The University has a nice cafeteria, but I prefer to prepare my own meals.
Dorm Life I don't live in the dorms.

Great for these types of students Nursing students, Anthropology students and natural history, outdoor education, business, students interested in science based fields of study. ISU does participate heavily in research for students and faculty.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The pillars! An easy hike with great views of Pocatello and on homecoming night students walk up and kiss for luck for the year. That is when you become a True Bengal.
What to do for fun If you love the outdoors than ISU is perfect. There is a world class ski hill 25 minutes from campus, an outdoor adventure center that will rent any equipment for all outdoor sports. Live music in the summer, greek life, theater and concerts are a few activities that go on during the school year. ISU also has a great student movie theater.
Tips for prospective students There are many majors at ISU, but not all, in the health field in particular, while there is an excellent nursing program many of the other programs require students to leave ISU. If you are interested in the healthcare field make sure ISU can prepare you for what it is that you want to do.

What to do for fun Just find what interests you and go for it, is my best advice.
Food and Dining Never experienced this either. Looking forward too though.
Dorm Life I am married and have not experienced dorm life at ISU. I think it probably is fun for those undergraduate students who are single. I can not give it a one, because dorm life is never a 1, but I can not give it a five because I have not experienced it.
Academic Rigor I plan to take courses here, and I assume they are hard. Being a Post Baccalaureate student I have different expectations of academics then others. I can not give it a one because I haven't experienced it, and i can not give it five because of the same reason.
Tips for prospective students Study hard in your classes, but also be well rounded in your needs. It will always make college life more fun. Be focused for your school work.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is very safe, if you are walking out at night, there are these stations where you can call, Public Safety. The name says it all, if you feel unsafe, usually at night, you can call them and they'll escort you to wherever you are going (on campus), even to your car. Also, the entire campus is alerted if a threat is learned. Furthermore, the campus safety also work for the local police department, so if something goes on, chances are it will be taken care of almost immediately. You are pretty safe no matter where you are on campus.
Clubs and Activities Idaho State University has so many clubs available, you will be interested in at least one, if not more. There is almost always something going on, so not having fun is not a possibility.
Great for these types of students Idaho State University is a place that will build your most treasured memories. Anyone who will attend is guaranteed to have a blast.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus As far as that is known, there are not many unusual things that occur on campus.
Bang for the buck There are several things on campus that are extremely cheap available to students, compared to the outside world, so it would be a good idea to take advantage of those. Though college is expensive, you are able to do things you probably could not do in the past because it was too expensive.
What to do for fun Go to special events on campus, if you're interested. If there is a trip opportunity, take it. Explore departments you have never been to, you might get a class in that department. Join into some sports, Idaho State University has just about any sport you could play. Take advantage of the campus gym. Go out and make friends.
Food and Dining There are many items to choose from on campus, during the times it's available. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are served at proper times and it is also a chance to meet more people. The quality is great and the cooks do a really good job. Depending on your meal plan, you could save a lot of money on groceries.
Dorm Life The dorm life is awesome. It is well organized and the university places you with another student who shares the same interests as you, even personality. It is very easy to get along with roommates, and your roommate(s) might become your best friend(s). Also, there are gatherings every so often to help you know the other residents better.
Academic Rigor Idaho State University has many majors and great programs to study in. If you are planning to attend this university, the program you want to study will most likely be available.
Tips for prospective students First and foremost, go to class. You're paying for it, so best to make it worth while, even if you don't want to. Second, join a club or two. It can get your name out there and it's a chance to meet new people and make new friends. Third, go to home games. It boosts the fun of college. Fourth and logically, be responsible. You're on your own in college, so being lazy or procrastinating doesn't pay off. Fifth, find a way to balance your time. Don't sit in your dorm studying your brain to death, go out and have fun too. That's where responsibility comes in. Sixth, don't hesitate to ask your professor a question inside and outside class. There's a reason they're working there in the first place: to help. Overall, have fun. College can be stressful, but some of your best memories can come from college.
In three sentences Such a marvelous university. The school spirit is phenomenal and the many opportunities makes attending this university an absolute blast. Many friends can easily be made here.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I my self have had no bad experiences, however, it seems like every week an e-mail is sent out warning the students about cars being broken into, assaults, sexual assaults, or what ever else, so...for me its been alright, but I guess it just depends.
Greek Life No clue.
Clubs and Activities Like I said, Lots of clubs and activities.
Great for these types of students Whoever wants to attend, really.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus None that I've seen.
Bang for the buck If you're going to buy your books, then do so online or somewhere else. The on-campus bookstores are complete rip-offs. They will sell you a book for $200, and you can take extremely good care of that book and sell it back at the end of the semester in perfect condition, but don't expect to make anymore than $20 off of it.
What to do for fun There are numerous on campus clubs and fraternities, that you could join, that have their own activities that they are involved in. Also, there is a theater with some pretty good plays, and every so often celebrities will visit. Keenan and Peele and Gabriel Iglesias both made appearances.
Food and Dining I usually eat off campus because I hear it's cheaper. With that being said I haven't actually tried the food so I really can't rate.
Dorm Life I don't actually live in the dorms, however, I have visited some of my friend in their dorms and from my experience I can honestly say if you are not a fan of extremely small spaces, then stay away from the dorms. The ones I visited felt about 6ft by 6ft.
Academic Rigor As stated above, some professors are really good and will be very thorough in their teachings, where as others, will tend to just not care.
Tips for prospective students Ask around about what teachers are good, because there are those who act like they're being forced to show up and really don't care whether or not you learn. Always visit your classes before you start attending so when school starts up you won't get lost.
In three sentences Tuition is cheaper than most other universities. Some professors are really good, while others just seem to not care. The multitude of buildings seem intimidating at first, but they're really not the bad and navigating around becomes really easy after your first year.

Great for these types of students Everyone
What to do for fun Its a Great school for those who love the outdoors, because there a numorus activities to do, most of which are within 30 minutes from the college
Tips for prospective students Take Math 1108( if you have to) during the summer where there is no computer work involved.
In three sentences It's a good school to get started at. The Academic services are most excellent in helping students finding free tutoring. The only Problem is the Math 1108 course has a low success rate because it is online.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is always an event to go to at ISU, so my favorite thing is to go the Performing Arts Center and watch the dances.
Food and Dining Once again I live off campus, but I have tasted the food on campus and it is wonderful!
Dorm Life I live off campus so no dorm life for me!
Academic Rigor ISU's professors, students, and advisors have all been there for me and have motivated toward my goal of becoming an anesthesiologist!
In three sentences In a five star rating, I would have to rate ISU a FIVE! My experience here has been great so far! I have learned so much and looking forward to learning more!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Lots of ways to call for help even if you don't have a phone. There's emergency phones and places to go if anything happens. I feel safe at ISU each time I go.
Greek Life I see Greek leaders around the campus accepting more new members and selling things in fundraisers and they all seem friendly and patient. Not sure how things are in one however.
Clubs and Activities I was unable to be in a club but met with some of the leaders and seems like everyone was nice. There's a wide variety from an anime club to a robotics club. Activities are too numerous to count, it's sometimes hard to be bored there.
Great for these types of students I saw a very wide range of students. There's many students even from other countries and it seems to be a nice place for just about anyone to be comfortable in. The book worm and the jock will both find it a good place to be as with many other types of students.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's a place up on a hill called The Pillars where there's some old pillars. It's an amazing view and a good climb. Tradition is to take your sweetheart there to show that you'll always be together.
Bang for the buck Free counseling, sometimes free food and entertainment, free movies, seems good to me. As for the academic part, well worth the money for how the professors are.
What to do for fun There's lots of clubs and activities during the year. In the Student Union building there's a bowling alley, pool tables, small arcade, and a craft shop all in only one part of the building. There's a field called the quad where there's sometimes live music during events and people play frisbee and other simple games to pass the time during class or to clear their head. There's also a theater where students watch movies for free. There's also a gym with a pool, the second biggest indoor rock wall climb in a university, and plenty of fun ways to work out.
Food and Dining The food is pretty good but if you live in the dorms, I'm told not to get the meal plan. People on the meal plan for the dorms complained about it making them feel sick. The other food places are fairly good though overall. Price hurts the wallet though.
Dorm Life I didn't get to live in the dorms, but I talked to a few people about it and seems like a nice place to live in. Some say its a home away from home but also a place to escape.
Academic Rigor Greatly depends on what classes you take but many instructors are willing to help you if you get in a hard place.
Tips for prospective students The counseling office is willing to help you with many things to secure your future more from helping you schedule the right classes to having practice interviews for jobs. There's also free counseling for overstressed students. The library has a staff that's eager to help with research, it's worth going and getting help if need be. The staff is nice so ask around if you get lost or need help.
In three sentences My first year was, at first, scary but then the staff and professors helped me out a lot. The Campus is beautiful with working computer labs and a helpful library staff. There's some recognized experts with experience that teach classes as well.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students If your a science, pre-med major ISU is great for you because it does focus mainly on the sciences which is nice for in state students trying to find a decent priced school that will focus on them.
Bang for the buck ISU is pretty good about giving you what you ask for and they also have some decent scholarships which make up for the price you pay because they do try to get you covered when it comes to money.
What to do for fun There are multiple things to do on campus that don't require you to pay anything: the rock wall, the ISU Bengal Theater, the gym, and sporting events. These all give something to do because the Bengal is always having a movie playing. If you like plays the campus has a nice auditorium which is fun to go watch them in but they do cost some money but as long as you bring your student ID it is a decent price. Pocatello itself isn't very impressive. It gives you some amazing food options but the shopping isn't very good but a 45 min drive away is Idaho Falls which makes up for the shopping pretty well. If you are going there to stay up late pretty much everything closes at 9 o'clock during the week and around 5 on Sunday so be prepared that Pocatello does not have many place to go after midnight.
Food and Dining The cafeteria food isn't the greatest but it does give you options so that it's not all terrible. But besides the cafeteria ISU has Jamba Juice, Einstein Bros. Bagelry, a sushi place, and then the Rendezvous food court, which makes up for the cafeteria food not being the greatest.
Dorm Life I love my dorm. I live in Rendezvous Suites which I say if your willing to pay the extra money I would try to live their because it is definitely a lot quieter than in the other dorms. You also get a washer and dryer in your dorm that doesn't cost money which is almost nice because the 500 dollars extra your spending you save by not having to pay for your laundry. The dorm is a great way to make new friends and their is RHA which gets you involved in the setting up activities for the students that live on campus.
Academic Rigor The rigor of the school depends on the classes you take. I'm an honors student which leads me to take harder classes on my own time so I would say that the school can range between three stars and five stars because the classes are based on the level that you as a student are at rather than a whole bunch of students.
Tips for prospective students For future students don't try to overload your schedule because you want to give yourself time so that you can have fun and enjoy the events. I also recommend that you go to sporting events and activities that the student board puts on because they are definitely helpful to relax and meet people. I suggest that you also look into the honor's program because it does give out scholarships and gets you into smaller general classes which are nice.
In three sentences Idaho State offers multiple levels of classes so that if you are a hard-working academic it allows you to take classes that will challenge you while if you struggle with some classes you can take an easier class that doesn't challenge as much. This accommodates for everybody so that no one is left out but rather challenged in their own way. I like Idaho State based on the college itself and not just the town.

Great for these types of students Any
Bang for the buck The college is higher priced the another not far away, but for me it is the location that off sets the cost.
What to do for fun The college offers various performances and activities as well as a on campus museum.
Food and Dining Every thing I have eaten on campus was delicious.
Dorm Life I am not living in a dorm.
Academic Rigor I have found he classes challenging and the professors very willing to help.
Tips for prospective students Meet with an adviser and map out a plan to accomplish your goal in the quickest tiem possible.
In three sentences I have enjoyed the teachers and classes. The staff has been very helpful with any questions and has given sound advice when requested. As a non-traditional student, I have at home on this campus.

Categories Comments Campus Safety While there haven't been anything too outrageous, there had been some burglaries, stalking, and car vandalism issues. However, ISU is located in Pocatello so it's a pretty safe city.
Clubs and Activities There are many organizations (ASISU, Housing, different clubs) that will host activities on campus throughout the year. There's at least one thing to go to every week. The clubs are a little more sparse. The only major ones here are the language/culture-related or sports-related ones.
Great for these types of students It's great for science, health-science majors. Their pharmacy and nursing programs are also commendable so students interested in those areas should definitely look into ISU.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There's an arch in lower campus that every student walks through when they enter the school. Then when they graduate, they walk out through the same arch to memorialize the the time they have spent at ISU.
Bang for the buck Compared to many schools in America, ISU is pretty inexpensive. I have heard some of the students say that ISU costs less as an out-of-state student than as an in-state student at their home state.
What to do for fun There are a lot of outdoor activities that's really close to Pocatello: hiking, skiing, mountain climbing, rafting, etc. If you are not into outdoor things, there's a free movie theater on campus and free gym. There's also a mall close-by, but many people prefer to drive to Boise (3-4 hours away) or Salt Lake City (2-3 hours away).
Food and Dining On campus dining is mostly fast food or snacks. Not that great, but it's the same at most universities. Off campus: it's Pocatello, there's not going to be that many choices. There's the usual American/fast food restaurants. There are also a surprising amount of Chinese places here (4, 5), and 2 Japanese places. Otherwise, there is not a lot of diversity.
Dorm Life The RAs and Housing really put an effort in involving all the residents in activities and games. The dorms are also pretty safe and a good place to hang out with friends or study. The Rendezvous is the best on campus dorm. It's the newest, have a computer lab, food court, close to a lot of classrooms, lots of study rooms, and individual rooms.
Academic Rigor Depending on the major, there is a lot of discrepancy in this area. Non-science related majors tend to have it pretty easy. Their course load is relatively light. On the other hand, science-majors can get really busy during the school year. They actually need to study and do all the assignments to get a good grade.
Tips for prospective students It'll be more convenient to have your own car here since you won't want to spend all the weekends/holidays on campus. Also, remember to apply to the college before the scholarship deadline (sometime in February). You don't have to fill out any extra applications for those scholarships, they are automatically given depending on your GPA, ACT scores, etc. If you are interested in science research, go talk to your professors. Unlike most universities, ISU allows freshmen to do undergraduate research. You might not be doing much as a freshman, but you'll be in a lab and observing some very cool lab experiments.
In three sentences ISU have some of the best undergraduate level research opportunities in the West. It's a great university for science or health-science majors. Great teachers, classes, and environment!

Categories Comments Campus Safety I personally have never encountered any problems, but there are occasional e-mails reporting about stuff being stolen out of apartments and cars/properties being vandalized. Also, my roommate had previously had a stalker issue as well, but luckily nothing bad happened.
What to do for fun It you like outdoor sports, this is where it's at. If not, you can always drive to Boise or Salt Lake (or L.A if you are that desperate to get away) for the weekends.
Food and Dining It used to be pretty bad but the organizer (Chartwells) have step up their game. The main dinning hall is in Turner and unless you live there, it's impossible to eat all of the meal plans in one semester. Also there have been more chain fast food stores that have opened up in the Student Union and the Rendezvous and those are decent. You technically can't cook in the dorms but I commonly see it happen.
Dorm Life In the Rendezvous (one of the dorm halls), half of the building is for classrooms and the other half is for dorms. It's a suite and you get your own room, but have to share the bathroom, kitchen, living room, and washer & dryer with 2-3 other roommates. Free wi-fi everywhere, a computer lab and a convenient store downstairs for late night snacking. Also, there are study rooms in the dorm portion so you will always have a quiet space to study.
Academic Rigor This really depends on the department and the professor. In general, you have to put a lot more work in math and science classes and can usually get by without much effort in other classes. There are a few professor that I have had who I personally think should not teach (they know their thing but they have no clue how to teach it to a bunch of freshmen/sophomores) but most of the ones I had are great.
Tips for prospective students It's cold and windy for most part of the school year so be sure to pack warm clothes. Even if you live on-campus, a car is necessary to get groceries and go anywhere off campus. Talk to advisors before signing for classes.
In three sentences This is a great college for those interested in health science (it has the only pharmacy school in Idaho) and the education program. It's a little out of the way but the location has it's charms. There are a lot more non-traditional students here than compared to other universities, which can be pro and a con depending on how you look at it, for me it's always fun chatting with people from different age groups and backgrounds.

Categories Comments Campus Safety ISU has a pretty safe campus. Key cards are required to get into most dorms, and even the computer labs after dark. It is a dry campus, and, though some people drink, it is uncommon to see drunk people walking around campus.
Greek Life There are a few sororities and fraternities on campus. One thing that I like is that they are very into community service. I don't know much else about them, except that they are very accepting of a lot of different kinds of people.
Great for these types of students All kinds of students are welcomed here. We have your traditional just-out-of-high-school students, international students, non-traditional students, and students from every walk of life.
Bang for the buck Overall, ISU is a great school that is definitely worth the money. It is a public school, so it is cheap compared to a lot of the private schools out there.
What to do for fun Join clubs. There are tons of clubs all over campus! Also, there are a lot of on campus events to go to! My favorite events are the different international nights put on by the International Student Associations. They are so much fun, and have entertainment and food from all over the world..
Food and Dining The food isnt usually great at the all you can eat buffet diner on campus. It is edible, and sometimes it was actually good. The grill in the Rendezvous is good, and the new food areas in the Sub are actually very good.
Dorm Life ISU does a great job getting good RAs that will be helpful and creative when it comes to planning dorm events. Also, the on campus dorms are pretty nice, especially the Rendezvous!
Academic Rigor ISU has some amazing classes and professors. The classes can be difficult, but are well worth the effort. The professors do a good job trying to make the classes fun and interesting.
Tips for prospective students Sign up as early as you can. Get in contact with a recruiter. They know a lot of information about the campus. They can also help you find scholarships, and know who to talk to for just about anything!
In three sentences Idaho State University is a great school. While Pocatello doesn't really have too much to do, there is a lot to do in the surrounding areas, and ISU has a lot of things to do on campus. The professors are great!

Categories Comments Greek Life no greek life
Bang for the buck life here is really cheap compared to big cities.
What to do for fun there are plenty of outdoor activities. winter sports are big here since most of the year is spent covered in snow. in the short summer seasons, there are water activities, outdoor activites like camping and hiking, and lots of hunting. the men's and women's basketball team are the big attractions of the school.
Food and Dining though they have a cafeteria, the system is only focused on dorm residents.
Dorm Life though i have not experienced the dorm life at this campus, i have noticed there are activities going on every week. the student council groups are always in the hallways advertising for something trying to get more students to attend. free movies are played at the theater on campus. from the pictures online, the dorms seem to be adequate for single students.
Academic Rigor i hate history. but the history instructor here has managed to grasp my attention, and was able to convey the message to where it was easy for me to learn. i have never taken a history class quite like it. for all the other classes: the instoructors covered all the material in depth, answered all our questions, and maintained a learning-friendly atmosphere.
Tips for prospective students it gets very cold here in idaho, so make sure to have lots of warm clothe. most of the fun things to do in idaho are outdoor activities. if you are looking for face-to-face time with the instructor, the class sizes are small enough and teachers are willing to make additional time as well.
In three sentences it's a smaller university where the teahers are able to give more time to individual students. it is great for those focused on learning and completing their degree as soon as possible. the ampus is located in the middle of the town where there is plenty of things to do, and everything is walking distance.

Categories Comments Campus Safety i always see campus police about, and they're very good about checking parking. another reason to be careful about how you park!
Greek Life i've never been involved.
Clubs and Activities i've contacted a few clubs for meeting times, but they have not gotten back with me. i hope they're just busy. that's been my only experience with clubs. there's always a full calendar of events going on. went to the 'frozen luau' event on the seventeenth.
Great for these types of students both sciences and humanities, has strong programs for either types of majors. very good for nursing students!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the red clay hill is interesting, there's a trail to walk to the top of the hill where theres a little arch.
Bang for the buck university is expensive anyway, but it's worth it for the major i'm intending to declare.
What to do for fun the sub. has bowling and games and such.
Food and Dining there are fast food and a few diners around the edge of campus. the places to eat in the rendevous center are pretty good, and priced well.
Dorm Life close to classes.
Academic Rigor the classes are engaging and some professors are harder to please than others. level of work is appropriate according to class description.
Tips for prospective students either live on campus, or know where you will park. don't skip classes! i can't count the amount of people who only show up for a few classes per semester and then are suprised when they fail. be in good heath. you will walk most places as it's easiest to do so.
In three sentences my classes are all within around twenty minutes of walking, so that is great. of the professors i have had so far, they are of quality. wish there was the free parking in the holt arena again.

Categories Comments Campus Safety there is public safety, which is our version of the police, everywhere. i feel safe walking on campus at any time of the day.
Great for these types of students this university is great for people that want a good studios atmosphere as well as plenty of fun things to do. we have one of the best programs in physical therapy as well as pharmacy.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there is the traditional true bengal that is done at the pillars on red hill in pocatello. this is a favorite of many students, taking a night hike up a trail with that special someone.
Bang for the buck i find everything to be really cheap. i mean, we are talking idaho here. in comparison to other university towns, things are cheap.
What to do for fun there are so many outdoor activities, including biking, mountain climbing, rock climbing, beautiful hikes, etc. it is one of the best places to be for outdoor activities.
Food and Dining it took me a few weeks to find the hidden restaurants that were so good here in pocatello, but once i did i have a hard time not eating out at least once a week.
Dorm Life you are provided with the opportunity to attend activities constantly but are also given the appropriate atmosphere to study when needed. i met friends in the dorms that will last a lifetime.
Academic Rigor i think the academic rigor definitely depends on what program you are in here at idaho state university but the accounting program is difficult, but rewarding.
Tips for prospective students my tips for prospective students would be to be prepared from the beginning. i came into my first couple semesters with no idea how to study, but if i would have remained focused i could have improved my grades drastically.
In three sentences idaho state university is a good school, with high standards in academics. the professors at this university will help in any way possible to get you the best grade and the knowledge of the subject along with it. i would recommend this school to anyone with the desire to learn.

Academic Rigor to never give up on homework even though if it is sometimes hard to do it there's always help to get it done.
Tips for prospective students TO ALWAYS BE IN CLASS NEVER GIVING UP ON WORK OR SCHOOL. BECAUSE IF WE WANT TO HAVE A BETTER FUTURE WE NEED TO GIVE OUR BEST TO OUR SELF AND FOR THE PEOPLE THAT SURROUND US.
In three sentences ITS A VERY GOOD SCHOOL THAT TEACHES YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR THE FUTURE TO HELP YOU ON YOUR CAREER. I RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students for students majoring in the sciences this is an excellent university. there is a good history department as well. a bonus for people who might be interested in paleontology or anthropology is the natural history museum that is on campus. there are a variety of pre-med options givens here as well.
Tips for prospective students this may not be the place for everyone. it's a good school for a basis in the sciences, since they are trying to open a medical school here so there's a lot of science-based classes available in the biological and chemical sciences. it's also kind of out in the middle of nowhere, so if you're looking for a booming nightlife this is probably not the place to go.
Bang for the buck i think class-wise i'm getting a lot for my money. the professors are excellent and enthusiastic about what they are teaching, the classes are informative and relevant to my ultimate goal, and the textbook selection is good for the classes as well. the experience is something you have to go out and find for yourself, however. professors are eager to help if you ask for it and are good to go to for advice about graduate school plans or the major you intend to work toward. opportunities for undergraduate research are there as well, you just have to do most of the work to initiate it instead of waiting for opportunities to come to you.
Am enjoying being here I am a first semester freshman and am taking on a lot of courses, but I have enjoyed my time here so far. The campus is beautiful, the professors are helpful and friendly, and everything in the city is within walking distance.
Academic Rigor the classes i have taken so far have been informative and interesting. not too easy but not so challenging that i have lost interest in them.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students I started at ISU right out of high school and tips that I would give to incoming students is to keep a set schedule and don't fall behind. Also don't be afraid to talk to your teachers and ask for help, they really do want to help you.
Tips for prospective students Go to class Take notes Do your work Keep a schedule
Bang for the buck They offer many programs that are covered by your tuition that you can use to help you succeed and there are many activities that you can participate in that are also covered by your tuition.
Am enjoying being here ISU has a very relaxed environment and very friendly people. The teachers treat you like an equal and help you to succeed.
Am learning a lot The teachers at ISU are always trying to find ways to help their students succeed and they do what they can to help you learn what you would like to learn. They take your feedback and use it to improve the class. There are also many programs available to help you learn and succeed.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Outgoing students, students that don't need to much excitement to keep them happy. Pocatello is a small town and there isn't always a lot to do in here but I enjoy being able to focus all my attention on school and not have too many distractions. So, students who don't want distractions, come to Idaho State University at Pocatello!
Tips for prospective students Apply for scholarships early! Don't always eat at the cafeteria, Turner Hall is all-you-can-eat, so if you're always eating there, you're gonna gain wait. Have fun! Get involved!
Bang for the buck Sadly, because I'm from Washington I pay higher rates, which makes Idaho not as appealing. Also, I'm told from fellow classmates that Idaho is expensive even for people from Idaho. Other than the tuition and fees I thoroughly enjoy this university and would recommend it to anyone who asked!
Am enjoying being here Literally everyday I look to the sky and think, it's so beautiful here. I am originally from Washington so Idaho weather is so different. It's already October and it has only rained a maximum of 3 days in the 2 months I've been here. The temperatures have been in the 80's and the weather is just wonderful. The people here seem so happy to be here, which in turn makes me happy too. Pocatello is the smile capital of the world and the people here prove that. Lastly, the campus is beautiful. Except for the many squirrels wandering the campus, I love it, my roommate says the squirrels are cute but I feel that they are a tad bit scary. Other than that the beauty of the campus is shown through the many trees and mountains (which the people of Idaho call hills).
Am learning a lot This semester I am taking Biology 101, Statistics 153, ASL 151, Psychology 101 and Deaf Studies 101. The thing I love about Idaho State University is the fact that I'm not just a number. In some universities there are so many people in the class that rather than being an actual person you are just a number. At my university however, the teacher to student ratio is about 1-25. In one of my classes (ASL 151) there are only 12 students which means I can have time to learn in class as well as outside of class. Another thing that helps my learning is the fact that most teachers have graduate students that help out with the teaching. So, if you're having trouble you can either go see the teacher or his assistant. Lastly, tutoring is free! All you have to do is sign up and you can go in and get help. This increases your chances of survival in a class by a lot. Getting knowledge from a person who already passed the class pushes your learning ability to a higher level.

Tips for prospective students -Talk to your professors if you have a problem, they really want you to succeed. -If you need help, go to the Center for Learning, they'll help you with anything you need. -Stay involved! Almost every week, an event is going on at the Idaho Falls Campus. Meet some new friends and enjoy school a little more. -Be prepared. Every class I've had has given me a schedule for when assignments are due. Look at them often, to make sure you get things in on time! -Talk to your academic advisers, they'll keep you on track! -Go in with a great attitude. You can do this, and not everyone in the world has this fantastic opportunity!
Bang for the buck Though my first year FAFSA (without loans) didn't leave me much for books and school supplies, I still did very well. The prices are great for in-state students, and all of the student events are free for students. So just about every week, I was getting free lunches, getting to see free local bands and even a really great magician! All free for students!
Am enjoying being here The student population isn't hugely diverse, but there are some very amazing and interesting students. I met some very neat people from India, China, Sri Lanka, and the Czech Republic. I've never met such interesting people!
Am learning a lot The faculty and staff will work with you through any situation that you have. There's a learning center to help students who might not have the studying skills for college that can really help. My first semester was very hard because I got in a car accident and was injured, but all of my professors helped me tremendously! I even got a 2.93 GPA though I was visiting physical therapy 3 times a week, going full time to school and didn't have my own car.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Call and schedule a campus tour, meet with one of our recruiters and advisors for your major. Have any questions, email ambassadors at info@isu.edu. Cant wait to hear from you (:
Tips for prospective students Enjoy your first year of college, get involved in something, meet new people and get your professors to know your name.
Bang for the buck ISU isn't a very expensive school to attend, Compared to other schools it it reasonable.
Am enjoying being here I love it here! I am still close to home, but still far enough to live on my own and be independent. Smaller school that you can still hang out with your friends, but meet a new face too. Idaho is full of outdoor adventures; mountain biking, rock climbing, camping, and even skiing on a near by mini resort, Pebble Creek. Its that small town feel that is so comforting to be apart of. ISU has over 160 clubs ranging from Greek life to anything such as dance club, if we don't have it you can start your own! ISU has some top programs as well, it is the number one school in Idaho for Health related professions, we have a wonderful Pharmacy Program and an Accounting program, only to mention a few.
Am learning a lot I love the class size for ISU. Students to professors ratio is 17:1, what could be better? There are a variety of classes as well to choose from, Physical Education Activity such as bowling or even fly fishing to add some spice to your general education class.es

Categories Comments Great for these types of students - Outdoorsy - Music majors - Pharmacy majors - People who like small town atmospheres
Tips for prospective students If you can, pack in seasons. You'll start off school in 90 degree heat, but by Thanksgiving break, temperatures will be freezing. Invest in a good pair of boots and a warm snow jacket! Also, a car is pretty much necessary for getting around Pocatello, unless you plan on never leaving campus (or making lots of friends with cars).
Bang for the buck You definitely get what you pay for. The academics aren't bad, and they have several very good programs (Pharmacy and Music being two of the best in Idaho) I was very disappointed in room and board, though. Unless you live in Rendezvous (which is the Beverly Hills of ISU), then you're seriously wasting your money on housing. Turner and Redfield are the Compton of ISU, and were awful. The RA's were very nice though. And as for the meals....well, Turner cafeteria is definitely not five star. It was difficult being a vegetarian and eating there, because there are no veggie options besides salad. Also, they add butter to EVERYTHING! You will gain the freshman 15 if you don't use the gym regularly.
Did enjoy being here I like small towns, so the size of Pocatello was not an issue for me. It has your basic stores, and the mall isn't as bad as people make it out to be. As for the Idaho State campus, if you make an effort to get out and be involved, there is plenty going on! The Student Activities Board is very active, and their activities aren't lame. It's a great way to meet other students. Living on campus definitely helps you meet people!
Did learn a lot I took basic courses to fulfill my general requirements (called goals at Idaho State). While several of these courses were pretty basic and required minimal work to achieve an acceptable grade, the rest were vigorous and required you to actually learn the material, versus writing it down and taking an online, open book test. I felt like the academic atmosphere was average, but I guess that's what you get for a low-tuition school.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Outdoorsy: there are many opportunities to get out and see the wonderful Idaho Wilderness with backpacking trips, white water rafting, horseback riding, skiing, etc. Medical: ISU is THE medical school of Idaho. If you are interested in health care, this is where you want to be. Want to Learn: Everything is geared for student success. The professors care, the tutors care, there are centers for help... if you try, there is now way that you can fail at your standards.
Tips for prospective students Honors Program Time Management Go to class (it is easier to pass a class if you go and don't pay attention than if you just skip altogether) Get Involved Relax! It's college!
Bang for the buck Another thing I love about ISU is that it is inexpensive in general, but there is no loss in education. An Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree from ISU is the same, if not better than other schools. Tuition costs about $2284 and then there is housing and textbooks and such, but don't forget that there are scholarships and financial aid (which is great! go to fafsa.ed.gov). ISU is the best school to go to if you want an affordable, great education.
Am enjoying being here Get involved; the first year of college is important to establish yourself and experience. ISU has a lot to offer. Sure, the town isn’t huge but there are plenty of things to do on campus including inexpensive movies (free with Bengal ID), bowling, arcade games, clubs, and other random activities. The first day of class is usually always the same with a million handouts and syllabi (plural of syllabus) and getting out early. Throughout the first semester the new student really needs to learn time management because seriously, there is ALWAYS something going on. ISU is a great place to learn and to start building the future. Pocatello isn’t a bad place to live and is close to many larger cities for those students that need that lifestyle, but for many it is the place to be.
Am learning a lot I am a second year at ISU and am a junior. Each semester in college is different but the first few seem to be pretty similar all across the board. I started college in August of 2008. ISU is a great school, the teachers care and there is always something going on for the new and current students. To start, go to orientation. I met people there that I am still in contact with. Get involved; the first year of college is important to establish yourself and experience. My advice is to apply for the Honors program. There are a lot of benefits to being in the Honors program: automatic $500 housing scholarship, living in the newer and nicer dorms, smaller class sizes, etc. And to be honest, the classes aren’t harder. The classes I am taking challenge me but I do not find them impossible to get an A in if I put in the time that each class needs. The experts suggest that for every credit in a class you should study three times as many hours in a week. So if a class is three credits, study about nine hours a week... but that hardly ever happens. Just give each class enough time to get everything done, and done well. That is what I have done and I am a straight A student.
