Leiden University was founded in 1575 and is the first and oldest institution of higher learning in the Netherlands. There are two campuses in Leiden and The Hague and U.S. News & World Report has ranked Leiden University as #79 in Best Global Universities. It is a member of the League of European Research Universities and is home to over 40 national and international research institutes. The university houses Hortus Botanicus, the oldest botanical garden in the Netherlands, which has plants from all over the world.
