Am learning a lot
All the professors here know how to teach students very well and keep learning interesting. I have a really awesome professor for History 1302, who I chose again for enjoying his 1301 class last semester, who constantly challenges us and keeps us interested. My English 1301 teacher is also my 1302 teacher because I chose to have him again. These are only two professors out of many and I am looking forward to meeting the rest and learning all that I can from them. Practically every teacher here has written a book on their studies and have earned their doctorates, so they are definitely credible in my opinion.
Am enjoying being here
Other students are friendly and cool. There are many free events that happen on a regular basis which are always fun to go to. The Campus Activity Board really knows how to keep students entertained. Surprisingly the dorm beds are comfortable, which I did not expect my first night in the dorm as a freshman. I am on my second semester and am looking forward to the others when they come.
Bang for the buck
I rated this 4 stars because sometimes the food quality isn't the best. About 1 out of every 5 visits to the cafeteria left much to be desired. Dorms are top notch though, as well as the new upgrades we're getting on campus. The new courtyard is always packed because of how great it is.
Tips for prospective students
GO TO CLASS! One should never miss out on valuable information. You're paying for a higher education and you can't receive any if you don't even go to class. PAY ATTENTION! Missing something can really jeopardize your grade on the upcoming test. HAVE FUN! One never needs to become stressed out. Being stressed interferes with one's grades and one's behavior around others. There actually is quite a bit to do on and off campus, just walk around and you're sure to find something to do.
Great for these types of students
There are many majors and minors to choose from at TAMUK. I am sure one looking to apply here will find whatever they are looking for.

TAMUK offers an outstanding Engineering program. Small class sizes allow students to ask questions, receive help, and learn the material. The students and staff are friendly and helpful.
Tips for prospective students
If you are interested in Pharmacy or Engineering, this school really does have amazing programs. Classes are not easy, but there is plenty of help available to make sure that you succeed.
Academic Rigor
Just because TAMUK is a relatively small campus, does not mean that classes are relaxed. Teachers still demand high quality work.
Dorm Life
I do not live on campus. Two new dorms have been built on campus in order to house the growing number of students enrolled here. However, the older dorms are in poor condition and in need of remodeling.
Food and Dining
There are two cafeterias on campus: the main building, and one in Turner-Bishop Hall. Other than that, several restaurants are on or near campus including Pizza Hut, Chick-fil-a, Sushiya, Young's Pizza, and El Tapatio.
What to do for fun
There are plenty of student organizations, events on campus, and occasionally events in Kingsville, Tx. Corpus Christi is only a half hour away and offers night life, theatres, and other entertainment venues.
Bang for the buck
TAMUK's tuition is much lower than other schools. The small size allows for individualized attention. In my opinion, TAMUK is a great value.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
Throwing tortillas at football games used to be 'the' thing to do, but recently, administrators have tried to ban this tradition due to injuries caused by tortillas which had been frozen or cooked before being thrown.
Great for these types of students
TAMUK is great for laid-back, easy going, students. There is very little drama, and most students would like it to stay that way.
Clubs and Activities
Plenty of clubs and organizations. Creating an organization is simple and there is one for practically every hobby or interest. There is always something to do on campus.
Campus Safety
Security lights all over campus. Well lit and police department on campus. I personally feel safe walking around campus, even at night.

Kingsville has lots of friendly people who are willing to assist freshman, that don't know the ropes. Thank you for being so helpful. Appreciate all the assistance given to the newbies. Hoping the weather cools off soon.
Academic Rigor
Just started my first semester, but everyone seems focused on getting through their degree. I really like my Math professor.
Dorm Life
Staying at Newman has been enjoyable. Really enjoying a newer dorm facility. Looking forward to the Luau next week!
Food and Dining
Newman fed my family on move-in day, so that was nice that we didn't have to leave campus for lunch. Greatly appreciated...

An Isolated city with a vibrant community, and a academically excellent school. Texas A & M University - Kingsville is a great choice for those wanting to get out on their own, and experience life without heavy boundaries, for better or for worse. A safe community, with many options for living and relatively lax restrictions.
Tips for prospective students
Be prepared to take on academics head on, its far from a lot of other cities so you're mostly on your own, don't abuse your independence.
Academic Rigor
Good tough classes with lots of real world applications, lots of opportunistic for tutoring and gaining knowledge outside of the classroom. Lots of focus on the coursework.
There are a few outliers, but on a whole, the standard of education is well met
Dorm Life
Most dorms are well maintained, excellent internet speeds except for Peer to Peer throttling. While this is to combat torrenting, it can have an adverse affect on some games.
Food and Dining
On campus food is great and always available, retail options are also well chosen with chick fil a, pizza hut, subway, and suchic all on site
What to do for fun
Honestly not much to do in kingsville, very small town, but corpus christi is close by (30 min drive).
Make some friends, make your own fun is the name of the game
Bang for the buck
You definitely get your moneys worth here, good school, very low price in comparison to a lot of other schools.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
Campus bonfire is not especially unusual, but still pretty awesome to behold.
Great for these types of students
Engineering students, and band majors will love this school as both programs are astoundingly excellent.
Clubs and Activities
Lots of options, some clubs are more well developed than others, but as a whole, they are many things to do on campus.
Greek Life
Excellent Greek life presence
Campus Safety
very safe from what I have seen, all high profile events are quickly addressed and publicized, and privacy is well respected.
Entire campus is well lit, and call pillars are located all over campus for quick police response.

Texas A&M University- Kingsville is a wonderful school. This is currently my fourth year here and I have gotten to know most of the psychology professors and other faculty members. I have learned that they are great people who will work beyond their work hours to help students out.
Tips for prospective students
Do not be late to class. Some professors will pretend like they didn't notice you were late, but at the end of the semester you will realize that they kept track of everyone who was late.
Do not miss class because you need to catch up on other homework. You WILL have time to do all of your work on time, this is coming from a fourth-year student with a job and current Psychology club president.
Get to know your professors. If an emergency pops up, you can easily talk to professors who know you and try to work something out.
Do not procrastinate. I have never been one to go out and party every week, so I have never pulled an all-nighter. I am an A & B student because I know how to prioritize. I am not saying to stay in your dorm all day, just know the difference between relaxing time and time to get to work time
Academic Rigor
I have learned a lot from these professors. Each professor that I have had so far have taught the students beyond the books. We have learned by hearing personal experiences life lessons.
Dorm Life
I love the dorm life. I currently have a dorm to myself and it is great. It is a little pricey, but it is cheaper than most of the apartments nearby. It is also a lot more convenient because I currently do not have a car, so I can walk to and from class with minutes to spare.
Food and Dining
I honestly do not like the food on campus. I loved it my freshman year because I was new, but as the years went by, I realized that all they served were pasta, pizza, and burgers.
I do, however, LOVE the Thanksgiving dinner at the dining hall! I do not have a meal plan but I will go and pay whatever amount I need to pay to be able to eat the delicious turkey.
What to do for fun
If you are a party person, there are a few bars.
If you are like me, there are organizations on campus with great people. I met some of the greatest friends I've ever had on campus and we usually go to the movies or to dinner for a good time.
Bang for the buck
You get what you paid for. Tuition is a little pricey, but this campus is great. Grass is cut, computers work, there are no buildings falling apart. What more could you want?
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus
An unusual tradition is the throwing of the tortillas when our football teams scores a touchdown.
Great for these types of students
Great for any types of students.
Especially for music majors and engineer majors. Their department is great.
Clubs and Activities
There are over 50 organizations that you can join, from psychology club to sororities. You get to meet great people.

TAMUK makes all of their students feel like they are family while attending. They also have so many activities that anyone can participate in which keeps the students more interested in campus. Texas A&M University Kingsville has excellent professors that keep the students involved and they really do care about their students and their grades.
Tips for prospective students
College is scary yet super excited and you're not alone! Here are some tips for incoming students or students interested in TAMUK.
- Get involved with clubs and activities, trust me, you'll make so many friends
- You actually have to study
- If you try, you will do fine
- Don't be afraid to talk to new people, these people will be your lifelong friends
- Enjoy your college experience
Academic Rigor
TAMUK is school so obviously it isn't going to be easy, but if you put in the time and effort to get good grades, you will see the results and you will be happy with the grades you receive.
Dorm Life
Dorm life is different because you are living on your own and you aren't with mom and dad like normal. Its really fun to meet your roommate and get to know them because they do become one of your good friends! The more you interact with your campus, the more you will enjoy it! The dorms even have activities like movie nights and PJ night.
Food and Dining
The cafe, they also have two lines that are somewhat the same everyday and then they have different things to eat for lunch and breakfast and dinner. I also love that they ALWAYS have fruit out! They always have something you will like to eat!
What to do for fun
There are a lot of things to do for fun at TAMUK. One, there are things to do with your club you might have joined and then there are things like NEON GLOW 5K which I participated in. The school keeps a lot of activities to do for fun!
Campus Safety
I always feel so safe around campus, they have lights out and if you feel the least bit scared, UPD will escort you home :)

This school is clean, and perfect if you have no type of transportation. The professors are very welcoming along with the students. Everything here has been better than I expected.
Tips for prospective students
Come prepared. By prepared I mean prepared. You can walk everywhere on campus, so there's no need for a car unless you're wanting to go further than the campus. Pack an umbrella or rain gear (that's the only thing I forgot). If you can, save as much as you can for school. Make sure you map your classes out and walk to them the previous days you have available.
Academic Rigor
So far so good. College work is how I expected. Study, focus, and work hard.
Dorm Life
My roommate and I have been able to keep a clean environment. Of course bring as much as possible. The more you make it look like your room, the more comfortable you are.
Food and Dining
The food is pretty much what you pay for. It's better than the cafeteria food from high school. Make sure you pick the right meal plan for yourself. There's breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
What to do for fun
CAB...is the Campus Activities Board. They have things that go on every month throughout the semester. It's a good way to get involved, and meet new people. They also give away free stuff, sometimes it also includes free food. ...you will need to take advantage of that too.

TAMUK is a reserved campus where everybody has the opportunity to know everybody. The alumni, professors, and staff are very friendly and are willing to help out if need be. The campus itself is very homey and it's possible to walk from one side of the campus to the other in about eight minutes.
Tips for prospective students
One tip would be to keep on top of your financial aid, as the staff themselves do not keep on top of it unless pressured to do so. Also stay on top of homework assignments and attendance as some professors do take into account attendance.
Academic Rigor
The classes themselves are hard depending on the professor. Some professors give more lecture than homework, and others provide more class work/ homework than lecture.
Dorm Life
The dorms themselves hold plenty of gatherings to try to bring the alumni together and often include prizes and food. It is rare that there are faults in the room, such as low battery on smoke detectors, paint or chips in the wall/room, etc. The rooms themselves are pretty spacious, if organized properly, but have plenty of room.
Food and Dining
Food selection is limited depending on where you go. There is a campus dining hall that provides a main entry, side, and salad bar. It also contains a sandwich bar and a hotdog/burger station. Hours vary depending on the dining hall you go to. There is other options on campus as well such as Subway, Chik-fil-a, Pizza Hut and Sushic.
What to do for fun
If you are in an organization or sorority/fraternity, they help keep you busy with weekly meetings and recommended volunteer opportunities. There is also other groups that hold fairs, get together, etc that can help keep a student busy in spare time.
Campus Safety
Campus feel fairly safe due to the emergency posts around the campus. Also with the police and security that stroll around the campus.

TAMUK is a great college of choice for students of all kinds. Whether you are a small town kid or one used to the city, TAMUK has something for everyone. From extra curricular activities to off-campus activities, it is certain that students will stay busy and have fun.
Tips for prospective students
It is important to get involved. Entering college can be a scary thing. It is a new environment and many times you are entering it alone. But getting involved in activities is a great way to make friends, and soon it'll feel like home.
Academic Rigor
Attending TAMUK is a great choice because you will be sure to receive education from professors who truly care. It can be difficult at times, but the professors are always willing to help if you are willing to ask.
Dorm Life
Although I have not lived in the dorms myself, I have many friends who live in various dorms so I have had the chance to visit them. From what I have seen and heard, the dorms provide for a pleasant living space. They are very clean and inviting.
Food and Dining
TAMUK has various choices when it comes to dining. From cafeterias to restaurants such as Pizza Hut, Chick Fil A, Subway and Starbucks.
What to do for fun
Extra Curricular activities are always fun such as sports, but in Kingsville there are other things to do such as going to the movies. Kingsville is also only about 35 minutes away from Corpus. There are many things to do there such as going to the mall, the beach, or the Texas State Aquarium.
Bang for the buck
I feel that I have gotten the best education and the money spent on it has been well worth it. I am currently a senior and honestly feel like I have gotten my moneys worth.
