The University of New Haven is small, yet a very warm and welcoming environment. Our classes are challenging and taught by very qualified teachers who have experience both in the class room and in the field that they are teaching. University of New Haven is the school you want to be a part of.
Tips for prospective students
This school is like a little family. Its a small campus and everyone here knows each other. I love walking around campus and seeing so many familiar faces.Spend a day on campus so you can feel and see exactly what I'm talking about.
Academic Rigor
The classes offered at UNH are very interesting but not easy. This is not a party school, this is a place to come and learn. If you are interested in being a criminal justice major I would highly recommend that you come to UNH. Our criminal justice programs is one of the best ones out there.
Dorm Life
I am currently a freshman and living in the dorms on campus. I have enjoyed living in the dorms. I found that by living in the dorms you get to make some great friends with the people on the same floor as you.The dorms are well kept and clean. The laundry rooms are located on the ground floor of every dorm and those are also maintained very nicely.
Food and Dining
The options for food here on campus are endless. When my dad came up for family day he was very impressed with our main dining hall ( he is still raving about it). There are so many options available that you will never go hungry.
What to do for fun
The amount of clubs on campus is outrageous. You should never say you're bored while here at school because there is so much to do. There are always events going on. Clubs have hosted movie nights, fashion shows, beauty pageants, dances, and so much more. There are also a wide variety of sorority and fraternities available on campus. If none of that has your interest, there are also club sport teams that you can join for fun with a group of friends.
Campus Safety
Campus police is phenomenal. Our campus police are actual police officers who are equipped with their weapons. They are constantly driving around campus making sure everything is secure. Our school does have the blue safety lights around campus that you can push in case of emergency. We also have an app that will provide you with a virtual escort while you walk across campus at night. I have never felt unsafe on this campus.

Am learning a lot
I can say that college is definitely different from high school but at the end of the day it is all about how much effort you put into your work. The University of New Haven has so much to offer. There's tutoring readily available, mentors for us that live in our residential buildings, and professors that are always a call/email away.
Am enjoying being here
I couldn’t be happier with my freshman year college experience. It has been quiet an adventure for me both academically and socially. Despite the fact that I miss home, that the food isn’t the best, having to share a bathroom with other girls, doing excessive amounts of work, meeting deadlines, and the list of complains can continue forever but I rather look on the bright side of it all. It makes the experience much more worth it and easy to go on with which leads to how I also can’t wait to see what is in store for the following semester and the next three years after that.
Bang for the buck
At the University of New Haven you get what you pay for. The school tries to accommodate to everyone needs and wants. I couldn't be happier with the way my schedule is set up, my professors, and the staff in general. The University of New Haven has made my transition to college so smooth. The quality of the school and education is phenomenal. Coming from a public high school it is easy to see the difference in public school and private school education. You are not just a number at The University of New Haven.
Tips for prospective students
College is not just about work. It is about discovering yourself and preparing for the future that you want for yourself whatever that might be. Your future is entirely up to you.
Great for these types of students
The University of New Haven is great for students who want a small campus with a great community/family like feel to it. This school is for students who want to excel academically and get a hands on education.

Am enjoying being here
I LOVE UNH. when i first went to this school, being an african american i was scared that there wasnt going to be any diversity, but boy was i wrong there are plenty types of people here and numerous different clubs so whatever you like or your interested in there's a club for that ! and if not they have no problem with you starting one.
Bang for the buck
ok UNH is expensive but honestly your getting what you pay for. the food is delicious on some days and the ac and heat is amazing. also we go on sooooo many trips all over the new england area and in the tristate... and its all free (well included). all you must do is show up at the leaving time and your good to go.
Tips for prospective students
i say if your looking at this school definitely take a tour. the school loves doing them and usually its students so you get a first hand experience. also the campus is small so if you like the homey feeling away from home its great. honestly from any one building to the next it takes you 5 minutes or less to get there.
Great for these types of students
all types of students but they have an exceptional forensic science program. also the music industry program is a big deal as well.

Although snow days are fun, I actually look forward to going to class! I learn so much at every class session. The professors are all well experienced in the fields I am studying and incorporate their experiences with the information in the textbooks. The classes sizes are small so it is easier to concentrate, ask questions and get one on one attention.
Am enjoying being here
The University of New Haven is my home away from home. I wouldn't want to be at any other school. There is always something going on around campus and I've had so many amazing experiences. I have made so many friends from all over the world. I have also gotten to travel around the coast for little to no money thanks to this amazing school.
Bang for the buck
The school is quite expensive but I definitely believe it is worth the cost. A lot of people like to complain about UNH but I say college is what you make it. If you sit around in your room all day or do the same thing everyday of course it is going to be boring! If you go to the events around campus, and are open to new things I will guarantee you that you too will enjoy your life here at UNH.
Tips for prospective students
Don't let the opinion of others ruin your perception of this school. Come check out UNH for yourself! UNH is a diverse academic school and I am certain you will fit right in.
Great for these types of students
UNH is great for students looking to major in criminal justice, forensic science, engineering, music industry, or fire science.

The teachers are really nice and help out a lot. Also if the teacher is unavailable, there is a peer tutoring center and center for learning resources which contains tons of faculty that just go to the library to help students. The best thing is that all the tutoring help is free! Also, in the dorms they have Academic Peer Mentors that are there to help you with anything you need.
Am enjoying being here
I love the campus. If you get involved on campus, you will love it. The people that say they hate it here are the ones that sit in their rooms and never try to get involved or make new friends. It's college, get out there and meet people.
Bang for the buck
It's rather expensive to attend, but if you get the grades you can get scholarships. There are tons of scholarships available, you just have to put in the work to win them. Also almost all of the school sponsored trips off campus are free. They are able to do this because of how much they charge to attend the university. They give you free bus passes that work all year and put on tons of on campus activities.
Tips for prospective students
definitely get involved
be welcoming to new people and friends (don't be shy)
make sure you get help in a class before it's too late to do anything about grades
Great for these types of students
like smaller campus, yet not too small
criminal justice and forensic science students
not a big party school

Academic Rigor
Don't ever think you can just 'cram'! I'm a Forensic Science major, and every class I take requires all of your effort. But this is not as crazy as it seems because everything blends together the more classes you take.
Dorm Life
It's really what you make of it. Everyone is friendly. All about being flexible, once you have that, everythign will work.
Food and Dining
Food is given to you every corner you turn. It is good as it is bad, but can be pricey. Dining dollars are a must if you're not good at a scheduled berakfast/dinner time!
Bang for the buck
It's a pretty pricey school. But it is amazing at what is does. I honestly did not expect such in depth involvement from the faculty. Completely worth it i fyoure willing to accept all they have to offer.
Great for these types of students
Forensic Science & Criminal Justice focus'
Clubs and Activities
So many clubs you could get lost just figuring out which ones you want to join!
Campus Safety
Campus Police aren't too chatty, but they are extremely nice and helpful.

While some classes may not seem useful to take, they really help round out your education. I have learned so much here. I have taken more credits here than most students I know elsewhere. All of our teachers here have real world experience in their fields, so it's not like you're learning from a textbook either.
Am enjoying being here
I rarely ever go home. UNH has so many clubs here, and if we don't have one that you would enjoy, you can start your own! Not many universities offer that. We have so many fun activities planned throughout the entire week, not just on the weekends either.
Bang for the buck
Okay, so UNH is a bit expensive. But honestly, I think I am getting every penny's worth!
Tips for prospective students
Take a tour before coming here. It's really helpful to see what everything looks like before you send in your deposit. Oh, and make the most of your time while you are here. GET INVOLVED!! It will make your experience that much better.
Great for these types of students
Students who want a great education and will work hard for it.

In three sentences
University of New Haven is an amazing school to attend. Most, if not all, of the teachers here have experience in the classes they are teaching because they have worked in the field. The experience here is one of a kind.
Tips for prospective students
One tip I would give to a prospective student is to take elective classes that you are interested in. UNH offers so many different and interesting classes; some of these classes could be related to your major and some not. If you take classes that are interesting to you, you will regret in and potentially waste your money.
Academic Rigor
As long as one studies, does the homework and pays attention in class they will do well. A lot of the professors post the PowerPoints online but others do not, so one should make sure they take notes and do not rely on them being posted. Additionally, one may have to read for some of their classes so having the textbook is key.
Dorm Life
Some of the dorms are better than others but they are all up to date. There are many different types of room set ups; pod, suite, three to a room and four to a room. Additionally, there are a couple apartment style set ups. UNH also has living-learning communities. This is where everyone on your floor is in the same major as you. This is a nice because it makes it easier to have study buddies. It also provides you with a chance to really get to know some of the students you will have classes with for the next four years or so.
In each dorm room, you get a bed, closet, dresser and desk. You need to bring your own vacuum, microwave and sometimes lamps; all the dorms are different when it comes to lighting. Only a few dorm buildings have stoves and those dorm buildings are mostly for upperclassmen.
The only downfall is there is only so many dorms available however; most upperclassmen have to move off campus.
Food and Dining
The food at UNH is alright but not the best. UNH has two dining halls and four other areas on campus to eat. Most of the time, the food at the dining halls are cold because it is served buffet style, so in order to get a hot meal one needs to get there as soon as they put out the new food. The food at the other locations are much better; but they take a lot longer to get because they are made right then and there. There is not a lot of variety in food choices; you can get a sandwich, salad, pizza and burgers at pretty much any location on campus.
What to do for fun
UNH hosts a lot of fun activities on campus all the time; contests, competitions, barbeques, drive-in movies, carnivals, flash mobs just to name a few. They have two big concerts on campus a year. UNH also provides a lot of bus trips. For example every year they take kids to the Big E and Six Flags. There are a lot of sporting events to attend. There are rec sports teams for kids who want to play sports but are not on the school team. UNH has an amazing gym with an indoor track as well. The gym also holds classes like yoga, kickboxing, spinning, etc. UNH is also located on the Post Rd so there is a lot of things to do off campus as well; shopping, movies, clubs, etc.
Bang for the buck
UNH is defiantly on the expensive side but it is totally worth what you pay. The professors are really what makes the price worth it. There are some professors that are super boring but then there are those professors that are very interesting. The interesting professors are the ones who connect what you are learning to what actually happens out in the field. A lot of these professors tell who about the cases they have been involved in or situations they have been in. It really helps you connect to the lesson.
Clubs and Activities
There are over hundred clubs on campus. The great thing is all the clubs are so different; if you are interested in something, UNH more than likely has a club devoted to it and if not you can make it happen.
Greek Life
Greek life is huge at UNH. We do not have Greek housing but that does not matter because all the Greeks are so close.
Campus Safety
UNH has amazing campus safety. We have sworn in police officers that are on duty 24/7. They will do anything and everything to make sure you feel safe on campus. We also have blue phones all throughout campus. These phones are there if you are in a situation and need a police officer, all you have to do is get to the phone, hit the button and an officer will be there within a few seconds. UNH also has security guards on campus.
