Washington and Lee University is a liberal arts university located along the Shenandoah River surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Allegheny Mountains. Washington and Lee is believed to have admitted the first African American student, John Chavis in 1795, however, he was not given a degree. The private college was founded by Scots-Irish Presbyterians but has been nonsectarian from the beginning. The Williams School of Commerce, Economics, and Politics at Washington and Lee is the first college of commerce at a liberal arts institution to receive a national accreditation.
I toured W&L this past year, and I had the most amazing experience! I got to sit with a guidance counselor and talk with him and my mom for over an hour about the school and various programs that I was interested in, and then I went on a tour with a senior there who was very informative and helpful and even introduced me to some of his professors. It felt like the tour was catered specifically for me!
