Colleges for a 1450 SAT

The SAT is a standardized test for high school students measuring proficiency in reading, writing, and math. On the SAT scoring scale of 400 to 1600, a 1600 is the highest available result. A score of 1450 demonstrates academic excellence in all subjects and shows that you answered a majority of questions on the exam correctly.

Is a Score of 1450 Good?

Earning a score of 1450 indicates an exceptional performance on the exam and places you in the upper 95th percentile of all students nationwide. Additionally, a score of 1450 enables you to apply to every college in the country and be competitive for admission at all but the most competitive of the elite institutions. Since the goal of taking the SAT is to increase competitiveness at a broad range of institutions, a score of 1450 proves to be immensely helpful for this purpose.

I Want to Go to College, What Do I Do?

Fill out the applications! With a 1450 SAT score, you’re an incredibly competitive candidate for acceptance. The first step is to put together a list of 7 to 10 colleges that you’d like to apply to. If you’re unsure where to start, pay a visit to your counselor. They’ll help put together a smaller list of insitituions to consider based on your academic and social comfort zones. Outside of that, you’ll want to improve or maintain your GPA, flesh out your extracurriculars list, and begin writing your personal statement.

The only reason to consider retaking the SAT at this point would be if you want to become a more competitive candidate at the most selective or elite institutions, such as those in the Ivy League. While a 1450 is among the range of scores they typically accept, which start at 1390, it does happen to be on the lower end. At Harvard, for instance, the SAT score of the average accepted student is 1540, nearly a hundred points higher. If the Ivy League isn’t where your interests lie, though, retaking the SAT likely won’t provide any added benefits—it’s already an incredible score.

If you’re a senior, concentrate on assembling the rest of the application to make it as marketable as your SAT score. Apply your writing skills to craft a persuasive and reflective personal essay and remember that this section is one of the best ways to separate yourself from the pack of applicants. If there are any after school clubs you’ve always wanted to join, sign up for a few in order to add them to your application. Finally, contact some of your favorite teachers and ask them to write a letter of recommendation. Combined with an SAT score of 1450, all of these elements of the application can make the difference in being accepted to an elite college or university.
