Stony Brook offers a great, quality education for a state school price, however, getting a quality education depends primarily on the student. Many of the science and math based classes are quite large and are often held in huge lecture halls. Due to the large class sizes, many people don’t go to class, and often, especially in 100 level classes, attendance is not mandatory. However, some professors do take attendance and often attendance, depending on one’s professor can be critical to the class. Majority of the professors at Stony Brook are also quite brilliant and because Stony...

Stony Brook has one of the best academic programs in the SUNY system. The campus is beautiful; there are always events going on and there is so much diversity.

One of the best school for research and career worldwide. Professors are not so helpful. They assume students can study by themselves.

It's an academically good school with lots of different majors, clubs and organizations. It's very ethnically and culturally diverse so everyone who attends is sure to feel welcome and accepted.

There are huge lecture halls with varying size recitations. A large portion of the students are commuters. Residence halls, don't live in a hall style...bathrooms are in stalls like at a mall or something and the showers are small and camp style... Only come if you are serious about science because the science classes are intense.

Stony Brook University is a really great college. The professors here really know their stuff. The campus is nice, but maybe a little isolated from other LI areas, such as off campus dining or malls, unless you have a car or its the weekend when the bus there is free.

Stony Brook is filled with friendly students and a 50:50 chance of getting a nice professor. A popular college choice for asian students and commuters. Pretty quite on the weekend if you're the type of person who doesn't make friends and won't have small suite/dorm parties.

This school is a great option for students from New York. I have visited it a few times and I absolutely love it! It has a campus that is big, but not too big, and it isn't in the middle of nowhere, so there are places to go and things to see for the students. Additionally, you will get a great education for a relatively low cost.

This school is in a very good area, most people come back to the city because its not far, and during the weekends, it gets boring here. Great fields in the sciences much better and convenient for kids looking to dorm not to far away
