California State University Maritime Academy is located on a waterfront campus in Vallejo, one of seven degree-granting maritime academies in the US and the only one on the west coast. All students are part of the Corp of Cadets and are required to wear a uniform, though Cal Maritime is not a military academy. Students studying for their U.S. Coast Guard license will train on the 500-foot ship, Golden Bear. Cadets can take advantage of the Edwards Leadership Development Program (ELDP), which features required international experience and a rigorous curriculum.
I think the school deserves at least a nine for two main reasons. One being that the campus is beautiful and enjoyable, especially considering it is right on the water but also close to other cities such as San Francisco. The other reason is that from what I have heard from other students, the courses and opportunities that the students work hard in classes and on ships but also enjoy the work itself.
California Maritime Academy is a great college located along the beautiful northern California bay area. It offers a little something for every personality type here with a variety of sports and clubs. It is a small campus so you get a lot of hands-on experience in our interactive lab type courses.
